Abstract
A simple and efficient method for the ruthenium-catalyzed 1,6-hydroalkylation of para-quinone methides (p-QMs) with ketones via the in situ activation of C(sp3)-H bonds has been disclosed. Without the need for preactivation of the substrates and oxidant, a broad range of p-QMs and ketones are well tolerated, producing the expected 1,6-hydroalkylation products with moderate to good yields. Step-by-step control experiments and DFT calculation were conducted systematically to gain insights for the plausible reaction mechanism. This finding may have potential application in the selective diarylmethylation of ketones at the α-C position in organic synthesis.

Abstract
The direct C-4 alkylation of isoquinolin-1(2H)-one moiety is a challenging transformation in organic synthesis. Here we present a practical and efficient synthesis of C-4 alkylated isoquinolin-1(2H)-ones through conjugate addition of isoquinolin-1(2H)-ones to p-quinone methides for the first time. The process is facilitated by Lewis acid catalysis and this operationally straightforward, mild, metal-free and one-pot transformation provides a wide range of C-4 alkylated isoquinolin-1(2H)-ones at ambient temperature in good to excellent yields.

Abstract
An iron(III) catalyzed tandem ring opening/1,6-conjugate addition of cyclopropanols to p-quinone methides leading to γ,γ-diaryl ketones has been described. This catalytic protocol provides a novel and efficient method to access γ,γ-diaryl ketone derivatives in good to excellent yields with high functional group tolerance. Importantly, γ,γ-diaryl ketone can be further functionalized to give a versatile set of useful products.

Abstract
Reactions of para-quinone methides (p-QMs) with α-diazo-β-ketosulfones and their corresponding esters as well as simple β-dicarbonyl compounds and β-ketosulfones have been carried out under basic conditions. While the reaction of diazosulfone with p-QMs afforded trisubstituted olefins via deacylative 1,6-addition and elimination, α-diazo-β-ketoesters and various active methylene compounds such as 1,3-dicarbonyls and β-ketosulfones afforded tetrasubstituted olefins via 1,6-addition and aerial oxidation. These simple, environmentally benign, and mechanistically diverse protocols provided the products in moderate to excellent yields and selectivities.

Abstract
A simple yet highly effective approach toward enantioselective synthesis of trans-3,4-disubstituted glutarimides from readily available starting materials is developed using oxidative N-heterocyclic carbene catalysis. The catalytic reaction involves a formal [3 + 3] annulation between enals and substituted malonamides enabling the production of glutarimide derivatives in a single chemical operation via concomitant formation of C-C and C-N bonds. The reaction offers easy access to a broad range of functionalized glutarimides with excellent enantioselectivity and good yield. Synthetic application of the method is demonstrated via formal synthesis of (-)-paroxetine and other bioactive molecules.

Abstract
Highly diastereo- and enantioselective 1,6-addition of 1,3-ketoamides to p-quinone methides (p-QMs) using chiral NHCs as Brønsted base catalysts is developed. The reaction is based on the utilization of a 1,3-ketoamide having acidic N-H that forms a chiral ion-pair consisting of the enolate and the azolium ion. Different β-ketoamides and functionalized p-QMs are applicable to the reaction. Synthetic application of the method is demonstrated via the preparation of highly enantioenriched β and γ-lactam derivatives.
