Abstract
α,β-Unsaturated aldehydes are important building blocks for the synthesis of a wide range of chemicals, including polymers. The synthesis of these molecules from cheap feedstocks such as alkenes remains a scientific challenge, mainly due to the low reactivity of alkenes. Here we report a selective and metal-free access to α,β-unsaturated aldehydes from alkenes with formaldehyde. This reaction is catalyzed by dimethylamine and affords α,β-unsaturated aldehydes in yields of up to 80 %. By combining Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations and experiments, we elucidate the reaction mechanism which is based on a cascade of hydride transfer, hydrolysis and aldolization reactions. The reaction can be performed under very mild conditions (30-50 °C), in a theoretically 100 % carbon-economical fashion, with water as the only by-product. The reaction was successfully applied to non-activated linear 1-alkenes, thus opening an access to industrially relevant α,β-unsaturated aldehydes from cheap and widely abundant chemicals at large scale.

Abstract
Steroidal pyridines are a class of compounds that have been the subject of extensive research in recent years due to their potential biological activities. The introduction of a pyridine ring into the steroid skeleton can significantly alter the chemical and biological properties of the compound, making it more potent and/or selective for a particular target. Different synthetic methods have been developed for the preparation of steroidal pyridines. This review provides an overview of the synthesis, biological activities, and future perspectives of steroidal monocyclic dihydropyridines, tetrahydropyridines, and pyridines from 2005 to the present. The different synthetic methods that have been developed for the preparation of these steroids are discussed, as well as the proposed mechanisms and the biological activities that have been reported. Finally, the potential of steroidal monocyclic pyridines for the development of new drugs is discussed. This review is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the field of steroidal monocyclic pyridines for researchers and scientists who are interested in this area of research. It is also hoped that this review will stimulate further research into the synthesis and biological activities of steroidal pyridines to develop new and improved drugs for the treatment of diseases.

Abstract
A heterocycle is an important structural scaffold of many organic compounds found in pharmaceuticals, materials, agrochemicals, and biological processes. Azacycles are one of the most common motifs of a heterocycle and have a variety of applications, including in pharmaceuticals. Therefore, azacycles have received significant attention from scientists and a variety of methods of synthesizing azacycles have been developed because their efficient synthesis plays a vital role in the production of many useful compounds. In this review, we summarize recent approaches to preparing azacycles via different methods as well as describe plausible reaction mechanisms.

Abstract
A ruthenium(II)-catalyzed one-pot synthesis of highly substituted 1,2-dihydropyridines (DHPs) via a three-component reaction system has been realized. The reaction is conducted using a simple Ru(II) catalyst without the addition of specific ligands. The catalytic system exhibits good functionality tolerance with a wide range of starting materials. The DHPs obtained can be easily converted into tetrahydropyridines and azabicyclo[4.2.0]octa-4,7-dienes by subsequent reduction or [2 + 2] cycloaddition reaction.

Abstract
A highly efficient pot, atom, and step economical method for the construction of pharmacologically potent structurally functionalized 1,4-dihydropyridines, quaternary centered C-3 functionalized spiro[indoline-3,4'-pyridines], and C-11 functionalized spiro[indeno[1,2-b]quinoxaline-11,4'-pyridines] via rose bengal photoredox catalysis under blue LED irradiation in an aqueous medium at room temperature has been developed. The products were isolated in excellent yields within a short reaction time for a variety of functional groups under transition metal- and ligand-free energy-efficient conditions in a green solvent system with high reaction mass efficiency and process mass intensity, which are the key advantages of the current work.

Abstract
A Hantzsch-type strategy for the synthesis of 2,3,5,6-tetrasubstituted pyridines via an oxidative coupling of β-enamine carbonyl compounds with rongalite was developed. This method employs rongalite as a C1 unit for the assembly of a pyridine ring at C-4 position, offering a facile method for the preparation of substituted pyridine derivatives with a broad functional group tolerance. In particular, this method allows us to prepare terpyridine derivatives, which are important ligands or structural fragments for catalysts and 3D metal–organic frameworks.
