Abstract
Structurally unique natural products pose biosynthetic puzzles whose solution can inspire new chemical reactions. Herein, we propose a unified biosynthetic pathway towards some complex meroterpenoids-the hyperireflexolides, biyoulactones, hybeanones and hypermonones. This hypothesis led to the discovery of uncatalyzed, intramolecular carbonyl-ene reactions that are spontaneous at room temperature. We also developed an anionic cascade reaction featuring an α-hydroxy-β-diketone rearrangement and an intramolecular aldol reaction to access four distinct natural product scaffolds from a common intermediate.

Abstract
The traceless Petasis borono-Mannich reaction of enals, sulfonylhydrazines, and allylboronates, catalyzed by chiral biphenols, results in an asymmetric reductive transposition of the in situ generated allylic diazene. Acyclic 1,4-diene products bearing either alkyl- or aryl-substituted benzylic stereocenters are afforded in excellent yields and enantiomeric ratios of up to 99:1. The use of crotylboronates in the reaction results in concomitant formation of two stereocenters in either a 1,4-syn or anti relationship from the corresponding E- or Z-crotylboronate used in the reaction. The use of β-monosubstituted enals in the asymmetric traceless Petasis borono-Mannich reaction of crotylboronates installs tertiary methyl-bearing stereocenters in good yields and high enantioselectivities.

Abstract
Facile and selective Alder-ene reactions of silylallenes involving the activation of an allenic C(sp(2) )H over an allylic C(sp(3) )H bond is described. In this ene reaction, the presence of a silyl substituent was found to be critical for the observed reactivity and selectivity since the corresponding alkyl-substituted allenes show different reaction profiles. Computational studies show that the origin of this unusual reactivity is the lower bond dissociation energy of the α-C(sp(2) )H bond in silylallenes compared to the corresponding nonsilylated allenes.

Abstract
The demand for new chemicals spanning the fields of health care to materials science combined with the pressure to produce these substances in an environmentally benign fashion pose great challenges to the synthetic chemical community. The maximization of synthetic efficiency by the conversion of simple building blocks into complex targets remains a fundamental goal. In this context, ruthenium complexes catalyze a number of non-metathesis conversions and allow the rapid assembly of complex molecules with high selectivity and atom economy. These complexes often exhibit unusual reactivity. Careful consideration of the mechanistic underpinnings of the transformations can lead to the design of new reactions and the discovery of new reactivity.
