Abstract
The development of layered double hydroxides (LDHs), also known as anionic clays with uniform distribution of metal ions and facile exchangeability of intercalated anions, are now appealing an immense deal of attention in synthesis of multifunctional materials. In electrochemical biosensors, LDHs provide stable environment for immobilization of enzymes or other sensing materials and play crucial roles in development of clinical chemistry, point-of-care devices through analysis of various small molecule metabolites excreted by biological processes which in turn serve as molecular biomarkers for medical diagnostics. In this review, we summarize the recent development in fabrication of LDH based nanoarchitectures and their electrocatalytic applications in ultrasensitive in vitro determination of conventional biomarkers, i.e., H2O2, glucose, dopamine and other biomolecules. Moreover, detailed discussion has been compiled to differentiate electrochemical enzymatic and nonenzymatic biosensors, to evaluate useful concentration ranges of H2O2 and glucose for analytical circumstances and to distinguish tumorigenic and normal cells via quantifying the released H2O2 efflux from living cells. Here, we envision that electrochemical sensing platform based on structurally integrated LDH nanohybrids with highly conducting substrates will assist as diseases diagnostic probe further enhancing diagnosis as well as therapeutic window for chronic diseases. Finally, the perspective for fabrication and assembly of LDH electrode is proposed for the future innovation of electrochemical biosensors with high performance making them more reliable for in vitro diagnostics.

Abstract
Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) with a hierarchical mesostructure are successfully synthesized on mesoporous silica foams by simple impregnation and hydrothermal treatment. The as-synthesized LDH/silica foam nanocomposites show well-defined mesostructures with high surface areas, large pore volumes, and mesopores of 6-7 nm. The nanocomposites act as carbon dioxide (CO2 ) sorbents under simulated flue gas conditions. They also exhibit significantly enhanced CO2 capacities under high-pressure conditions and high CO2 /N2 and CO2 /CH4 selectivities.

Abstract
A magnetic, luminescent Eu-doped Mg-Al layered double hydroxide with ibuprofen (IBU) intercalated in the gallery has been successfully prepared by a simple coprecipitation method. The physicochemical properties of the samples were well characterized by powder XRD, TEM, FTIR, TGA, inductively coupled plasma MS (ICP-MS), vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM), and fluorospectrophotometry. The results revealed that Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticles are coated on the surface of layered double hydroxides and the obtained (Mg(2)Al(0.95)Eu(0.05))(Fe)-(IBU) sample exhibits both superparamagnetic and luminescent properties, with a saturation magnetization value of 1.86 emu g(-1) and a strong emission band at 610 nm, respectively. Additionally, it was found that the ibuprofen loading amount is about 31 % (w/w), and the intercalated ibuprofen possesses sustained release behavior when the magnetic, luminescent composite is immersed in simulated body fluid (SBF).

Abstract
A new nanocomposite architecture is reported which combines prolate spheroidal hematite nanoparticles with drug-carrying layered double hydroxide [LDH] disks in a single structure. Spindle-shaped hematite nanoparticles with average length of 225 nm and width of 75 nm were obtained by thermal decomposition of hydrothermally synthesized hematite. The particles were first coated with Mg-Al-NO3-LDH shell and then subjected to anion exchange with salicylate ions. The resulting bio-nanohybrid displayed a close structural resemblance to that of the Ring Nebula. Scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscopy images showed that the LDH disks are stacked around the equatorial part of the ellipsoid extending along the main axis. This geometry possesses great structural tunability as the composition of the LDH and the nature of the interlayer region can be tailored and lead to novel applications in areas ranging from functional materials to medicine by encapsulating various guest molecules.
