Abstract
Herein, we report the facile synthesis of a three-dimensional (3D) inorganic analogue of 9,10-diazido-9,10-dihydrodiboraantracene, which turned out to be a monomer in both the solid and solution state, and thermally stable up to 230 °C, representing a rare example of azido borane with boosted Lewis acidity and stability in one. Apart from the classical acid-base and Staudinger reactions, E-H bond activation (E=B, Si, Ge) was investigated. While the reaction with B-H (9-borabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane) led directly to the 1,1-addition on Nα upon N2 elimination, the Si-H (Et3 SiH, PhMe2 SiH) activation proceeded stepwise via 1,2-addition, with the key intermediates 5int and 6int being isolated and characterized. In contrast, the cooperative Ge-H was reversible and stayed at the 1,2-addition step.

Abstract
o-Carboryne can undergo α-CH bond insertion with tertiary amines, thus affording α-carboranylated amines in very good regioselectivity and isolated yields. In this process, the nucleophilic addition of tertiary amines to the multiple bond of o-carboryne generates a zwitterionic intermediate. An intramolecular proton transfer, followed by a nucleophilic attack leads to the formation of the final product. Thus, regioselectivity is highly dependent upon the acidity of α-CH proton of tertiary amines. This approach serves as an efficient methodology for the preparation of a series of 1-aminoalkyl-o-carboranes.

Abstract
Size-tunable titanium oxide (TiO(2)) nanotube powders offering both a light-scattering effect and a light-harvesting function were synthesized by a fast and facile anodizing method. When used to prepare the TiO(2) layer for a photoanode, their photovoltaic performances were much worse than that of a nanocrystal TiO(2) layer. However, when the TiO(2) nanotube powders were used as a light-scattering layer on a nanocrystal TiO(2) layer, the highest conversion efficiency was obtained because of more noticeable light absorption of the longer wavelength, which was not attainable from a pure nanocrystal TiO(2) layer or the combination of nanocrystal TiO(2)/commercialized light-scattering particles.

Abstract
The construction of nanocrystals with controllable composition and desirable micro-nanostructures is a well-known challenge. A combination of favorable composition and optimized micro-nanostructures can enhance the performance of a material significantly. Using TiO(2) as an example, we demonstrate here a facile approach to prepare anatase/rutile mixed-phase TiO(2) hollow micro-nanospheres with hierarchical mesopores. Our strategy relies on polymer-assisted assembly of ∼ 5 nm nano-building blocks into three-dimensional hierarchical hollow micro-nanospheres in a mixed alcohol-water solution. This superior micro-nanostructure endows the sample with hierarchical mesopores and a high surface area of 106 m(2) g(-1). We also show that, due to the synergetic effects of the mixed-phase composition and the micro-nanostructures, the sample exhibited significantly improved photovoltaic performance and similar photocatalytic performance compared with the commercial Degussa P25. These results suggested that our sample has great potential for future photovoltaic and photocatalytic applications.
