Abstract
A novel sterically demanding bis(4-benzhydryl-benzoxazol-2-yl)methane ligand 6 (4-BzhH2 BoxCH2 ) was gained in a straightforward six-step synthesis. Starting from this ligand monomeric [M(4-BzhH2 BoxCH)] (M=Na (7), K (81 )) and dimeric [{M(4-BzhH2 BoxCH)}2 ] (M=K (82 ), Rb (9), Cs (10)) alkali metal complexes were synthesised by deprotonation. Abstraction of the potassium ion of 8 by reaction with 18-crown-6 resulted in the solvent separated ion pair [{(THF)2 K@(18-crown-6)}{bis(4-benzhydryl-benzoxazol-2-yl)methanide}] (11), including the energetically favoured monoanionic (E,E)-(4-BzhH2 BoxCH) ligand. Further reaction of 4-BzhH2 BoxCH2 with three equivalents KH and two equivalents 18-crown-6 yielded polymeric [{(THF)2 K@(18-crown-6)}{K@(18-crown-6)K(4-Bzh BoxCH)}]n (n→∞) (12) containing a trianionic ligand. The neutral ligand and herein reported alkali complexes were characterised by single X-ray analyses identifying the latter as a promising precursor for low-valent main group complexes.

Abstract
A detailed analysis of a complete set of the local potentials that appear in the Euler equation for electron density is carried out for noncovalent interactions in the crystal of a uracil derivative using experimental X-ray charge density. The interplay between the quantum theory of atoms in molecules and crystals and the local potentials and corresponding inner-crystal electronic forces of electrostatic and kinetic origin is explored. Partitioning of crystal space into atomic basins and atomic-like potential basins led us to the definite description of interatomic interaction and charge transfer. Novel physically grounded bonding descriptors derived within the orbital-free quantum crystallography provided the detailed examination of π-stacking and intricate C=O⋅⋅⋅π interactions and nonclassical hydrogen bonds present in the crystal. The donor-acceptor character of these interactions is revealed by analysis of Pauli and von Weizsäcker potentials together with well-known functions, e. g., deformation electron density and electron localization function. In this way, our analysis throws light on aspects of these closed-shell interactions hitherto hidden from the description.

Abstract
The agostic interaction is a ubiquitous phenomenon in catalytic processes and transition-metal complexes, and hyperconjugation has been well recognized as its origin. Yet, recent studies showed that either short-range London dispersion or structural constraints could be the driving force, although proper evaluation of the role of hyperconjugation therein is needed. Herein, a simple variant of valence bond theory was employed to study a few exemplary Ti complexes with α- or β-agostic interactions and interpret the agostic effect in terms of the steric effect, hyperconjugation, and dispersion. For the complexes [MeTiCl3 (dmpe)] and [MeTiCl3 (dhpe)] with α-agostic interactions, hyperconjugation plays the dominant role with comparable magnitudes in both systems, but dispersion is solely responsible for the stronger agostic interaction in the former compared with the latter. For the complexes [EtTiCl3 (dmpe)] and [EtTiCl3 (dhpe)] with β-agostic interactions, however, hyperconjugation and dispersion play comparable roles, and the weaker steric repulsion leads to a stronger agostic effect in the former than in the latter. Thus, the present study clarifies the variable and sensitive roles of steric, hyperconjugative, and dispersion interactions in the agostic interaction.

Abstract
Agostic interactions between a C-H bond and a transition metal are commonly crucial in catalytic polymerization processes. Herein, a quantitative study of the nature of β-agostic interactions in a series of systems of importance in C-H bond activation reactions is reported. The analysis, characterized by the use of a coupled-cluster-based energy decomposition scheme, demonstrates that short-range London dispersion between the agostic C-H bond and the metal center plays a fundamental role in affecting the structural stability of these systems, contrary to a widely held view. These results are used to rationalize a series of previously published experimental findings.

Abstract
The electron density in a one-coordinate [Ga(I) N(SiMe3 )R] complex has been determined from ab initio calculations and multipole modeling of 90 K X-ray data. The topologies of the Laplacian distribution and the ELI-D match a situation having an sp(3) -hybridized nitrogen with a tetrahedral arrangement of two single σ-bonds (to carbon and silicon) and two lone pairs pointing towards gallium in a scissor-grasping fashion. The analysis of the Laplacian distribution furthermore reveals a ligand-induced charge concentration (LICC) in the outer core of gallium oriented directly towards the nitrogen atom, and thus in between the two lone pairs. These observations might suggest that the trigonal planar nitrogen geometry result from a dative GaN bond, in which the roles of the metal and the ligand have been reversed with respect to a "standard" metal-ligand interaction, that is, the metal is here electron-donating. The ELI-D reveals a diffuse and directional lone pair on gallium, suggesting that this complex could serve as a σ-donor.
