Abstract
Here, we report a copper-catalyzed asymmetric cascade cyclization/[1,2]-Stevens-type rearrangement via a non-diazo approach, leading to the practical and atom-economic assembly of various valuable chiral chromeno[3,4-c]pyrroles bearing a quaternary carbon stereocenter in generally moderate to good yields with wide substrate scope and excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99 % ee). Importantly, this protocol not only represents the first example of catalytic asymmetric [1,2]-Stevens-type rearrangement based on alkynes but also constitutes the first asymmetric formal carbene insertion into the Si-O bond.

Abstract
Polycyclic indoline-benzodiazepines can be accessed through the intermolecular reaction of Tröger bases with N-sulfonyl-1,2,3-triazoles. Under RhII catalysis, α-imino carbenes are generated and a subsequent cascade of [1,2]-Stevens, Friedel-Crafts, Grob, and aminal formation reactions yield the polycyclic heterocycles as single isomers (d.r.>49:1, four stereocenters including two bridgehead N atoms). Further ring expansion by insertion of a second α-imino carbene leads to elaborated polycyclic 9-membered-ring triazonanes.

Abstract
The reaction of rhodium-bound carbenes with strained bicyclic methylene aziridines results in a formal [3+1] ring expansion to yield highly substituted methylene azetidines with excellent regio- and stereoselectivity. The reaction appears to proceed through an ylide-type mechanism, where the unique strain and structure of the methylene aziridine promotes a ring-opening/ring-closing cascade that efficiently transfers chirality from substrate to product. The resultant products can be elaborated into new azetidine scaffolds containing vicinal tertiary-quaternary and even quaternary-quaternary stereocenters.
