Abstract
Precisely controlling the product selectivity of a reaction is an important objective in organic synthesis. α-Ketoamides are vital intermediates in chemical transformations and privileged motifs in numerous drugs, natural products, and biologically active molecules. The selective synthesis of α-ketoamides from feedstock chemicals in a safe and operationally simple manner under mild conditions is a long-standing catalysis challenge. Herein, an unprecedented TBD-switched Pd-catalyzed double isocyanide insertion reaction for assembling ketoamides in aqueous DMSO from (hetero)aryl halides and pseudohalides under mild conditions is reported. The effectiveness and utility of this protocol are demonstrated by its diverse substrate scope (93 examples), the ability to late-stage modify pharmaceuticals, scalability to large-scale synthesis, and the synthesis of pharmaceutically active molecules. Mechanistic studies indicate that TBD is a key ligand that modulates the Pd-catalyzed double isocyanide insertion process, thereby selectively providing the desired α-ketoamides in a unique manner. In addition, the imidoylpalladium(II) complex and α-ketoimine amide are successfully isolated and determined by X-ray analysis, confirming that they are probable intermediates in the catalytic pathway.

Abstract
The construction of N-heterocyclic compounds from lignin remains a great challenge due to the complex lignin structure and the involvement of multiple steps, including the cleavage of lignin C-O linkages and the formation of heterocyclic aromatic rings. Herein, the first example of KOH mediated sustainable synthesis of quinoxaline derivatives from lignin β-O-4 model compounds in a one-pot fashion under transition-metal-free conditions has been achieved. Mechanistic studies suggested that this transformation includes highly coupled cascade steps of cleavage of C-O bonds, dehydrative condensation, sp3 C-H bond oxidative activation, and intramolecular dehydrative coupling reaction. With this protocol, a wide range of functionalized quinoxalines, including an important drug compound AG1295, were synthesized from lignin β-O-4 model compounds and β-O-4 polymer, showcasing the application potential of lignin in pharmaceutical synthesis.

Abstract
Described here is a Cu-catalyzed [2 + 2 + 1] modular synthesis of full-substituted β-pyrrolinones from simple amines, alkynes, and α-diazo-β-ketoesters. This approach involving the regioselective C-nucleophilic attack of enamines, uncommon C-nucleophilic addition to ketenes, and umpolung of imines enables the direct synthesis of full-substituted β-pyrrolinones, which were hardly constructed by traditional synthetic strategies.

Abstract
Selective oxidation is one of the most important and challenging transformations in both academic research and chemical industry. Recently, a highly selective and efficient way to synthesize biologically active γ-hydroxy-α,β-unsaturated molecules from Cu-catalyzed vinylogous aerobic oxidation of α,β- and β,γ-unsaturated compounds has been developed. However, the detailed reaction mechanism remains elusive. Herein, we report a density functional theory study on this Cu-catalyzed vinylogous aerobic oxidation of γ,γ-disubstituted α,β- and β,γ-unsaturated isomers. Our computational study unveils detailed mechanism for each elementary step, i.e. deprotonation, O2 activation, and reduction. Besides, the origin of regioselectivity, divergent reactivities of substrates as well as reducing agents, and the byproduct generation have also been investigated. Notably, the copper catalyst retains the + 2 oxidation state through the whole catalytic cycle and plays essential roles in multiple steps. These findings would provide hints on mechanistic studies and future development of transition metal-catalyzed aerobic oxidation reactions.

Abstract
Copper-catalyzed oxidative couplings of N-allylbenzamides for C-N and C-O bond formations have been developed through C-H bond functionalization. To demonstrate the utility of this approach, it was applied to the synthesis of β-aminoimides and imides. To the best of our knowledge, these are the first examples in which different classes of N-containing compounds have been directly prepared from the readily available N-allylbenzamides using an inexpensive catalyst/oxidant/base (CuSO4 /TBHP/Cs2 CO3 ) system.

Abstract
A method for Pd-catalyzed aerobic oxidative reaction of quinazolinones and alkynes has been developed for sequential [4 + 2] and [3 + 2] cycloadditions to assemble a novel fused-polycyclic system containing tetrahydropyridine and dihydrofuran rings. The reaction process involves C-H and N-H bond functionalization for the formation of tetrahydropyridine and an oxygen radical cyclization for the dihydrofuran ring. This atom- and step-economical synthesis is highly efficient and has good substrate tolerance, which provides a new approach for the construction of polycyclic molecules with potential pharmaceutical interest.

Abstract
A mild and general α-arylation of α-amino carbonyls with indoles catalyzed by Fe(ClO4)3 has been developed. C-H activation is smoothly fulfilled by using TBHP as the oxidant with good yields. Two hydrogen dissociations make this transformation more environmentally benign because of high atom efficiency.

Abstract
Nitrogen-containing heterocycles have found remarkable applications in natural product research, material sciences, and pharmaceuticals. Although the synthesis of this interesting class of compounds attracted the interest of generations of organic chemists, simple and straightforward assembly methods based on transition-metal catalysis have regularly been elusive. The recent advancements in the development of C-H functionalization have helped in accomplishing the synthesis of a variety of complex heterocycles from simple precursors. This Focus Review summarizes the recent advances in one particular field: the copper-catalyzed C-N bond formation reactions via C-H bond functionalization to furnish a comprehensive range of nitrogen heterocycles. Applicability and synthetic feasibility of a particular reaction represent major requirements for the inclusion in this review.

Abstract
Oxidative coupling of methylamines with an aminyl radical to construct amides was developed in the presence of an I2/TBHP catalyst under acidic conditions via the two cleavages of the sp(3) C-N bond of aryl-methylamines and the sp(2) C-N bond of N-substituted formamides respectively. This transition-metal-free protocol provides a novel synthetic tool for the construction of N-substituted amides and a series of arylamides can be easily obtained with good yields.

Abstract
A copper-catalyzed aerobic oxidative amidation reaction of inert C-C bonds with tertiary amines has been developed for the synthesis of tertiary amides, which are significant units in many natural products, pharmaceuticals, and fine chemicals. This method combines C-C bond activation, C-N bond cleavage, and C-H bond oxygenation in a one-pot protocol, using molecular oxygen as the sole oxidant without any additional ligands.
