Abstract
A series of heterometallic tetranuclear clusters, Ln2Ni2(NO3)4L4(μ3-OCH3)2·2(CH3CN) (Ln = Gd(1), Tb(2), Dy(3), Ho(4), Er(5); HL = methyl 3-methoxysalicylate), were synthesized solvothermally. The intramolecular synergistic effect of two metal centers of Ln(III) and Ni(II) and the exposed multimetallic sites serving as Lewis acid activators greatly increase the efficiency of the CO2 conversion, and the yield for cluster 3 can be achieved at 96% at atmospheric pressure and low temperature. In particular, the self-assembly multimetal center with polydentate ligand shows good generality and enhanced recyclability. The design of such 3d-4f heterometallic clusters provides an effective strategy for the conversion of CO2 under greener conditions. Meanwhile, magnetic investigations indicate that cluster 1 is a good candidate for magnetic refrigerant materials with a relatively large magnetocaloric effect (MCE) (-ΔSm = 28.5 J kg-1 K-1 at 3.0 K and 7.0 T), and cluster 3 shows single-molecular magnet behavior under zero dc field. Heterometallic clusters with special magnetic properties and good catalytic behavior for the conversion of CO2 are rare. Thus, they are potential bifunctional materials applied in practice.

Abstract
The discovered giant clusters are always highly symmetric owing to the spontaneous assembly of one or two basic units. Herein we report the Gd44 Co28 crown and Gd95 Co60 cage, formulated as [Gd44 Co28 (IDA)20 (OH)72 (CO3 )12 (OAc)28 (H2 O)64 ]⋅(ClO4 )24 and [Na4 Gd95 Co60 (IDA)40 (OH)150 (CO3 )40 (OAc)58 (H2 O)164 ] ⋅ (ClO4 )41 (H2 IDA=iminodiacetic acid), respectively, by providing a library containing multiple low-nuclearity units. The heart-like units and crown-like tetramer found in both compounds indicate unprecedented assembly levels, leading to an atypical geometry characteristic compared to the giant clusters directly assembled by regular units. These two clusters not only significantly increase the size of Ln-Co clusters but also exhibit the enhanced magnetic entropy change at ultra-low temperatures. This work provided an effective way to fabricate cluster compounds with giant size and geometry complexity simultaneously.

Abstract
Methylene-bridged calix[4]arenes have emerged as extremely versatile ligand supports in the formation of new polymetallic clusters possessing fascinating magnetic properties. Metal ion binding rules established for this building block allow one to partially rationalise the complex assembly process. The ability to covalently link calix[4]arenes at the methylene bridge provides significantly improved control over the introduction of different metal centres to resulting cluster motifs. Clusters assembled from bis-calix[4]arenes and transition metal ions or 3d-4f combinations display characteristic features of the analogous calix[4]arene supported clusters, thereby demonstrating an enhanced and rational approach towards the targeted synthesis of complex and challenging structures.
