Abstract
Nature has ingeniously developed specialized water transporters that effectively reject ions, including protons, while transporting water across membranes. These natural water channels, known as aquaporins (AQPs), have inspired the creation of Artificial Water Channels (AWCs). However, replicating superfast water transport with synthetic molecular structures that exclude salts and protons is a challenging task. This endeavor demands the coexistence of a suitable water-binding site and a selective filter for precise water transportation. Here, we present small-molecule hydrazides 1 b-1 d that self-assemble into a rosette-type nanochannel assembly through intermolecular hydrogen bonding and π-π stacking interactions, and selectively transport water molecules across lipid bilayer membranes. The experimental analysis demonstrates notable permeability rates for the 1 c derivative, enabling approximately 3.18×108 water molecules to traverse the channel per second. This permeability rate is about one order of magnitude lower than that of AQPs. Of particular significance, the 1 c ensures exclusive passage of water molecules while effectively blocking salts and protons. MD simulation studies confirmed the stability and water transport properties of the water channel assembly inside the bilayer membranes at ambient conditions.

Abstract
Confining polar water molecules to particular geometries demands sophisticated intermolecular interactions, and not many small synthetic molecules have accomplished such a task. Herein, regioisomeric acyclic Janus-AT nucleosides (1 and 2), with a self-complementary fused genetic alphabet and conformationally flexible side chains, have been selectively synthesized. 1 and 2 adopt disparate base-pair motifs from the π-π stacked hydrophobic base moieties and distinct hydrogen bond (HB) interconnections from the hydrophilic sugar residues, which in turn lead to divergent, intricate intermolecular interaction networks with different capacities to confine water molecules. Under the precise control of the host framework of the N8 -regioisomer, separate ordered single-file water wires can be locked through special three-HB clamps into unique inter- and intra-wire geometrical alignments. Localized dynamic synchronized rotations within the fixed framework coordinated by both the host hydroxy groups and guest water molecules were observed in a temperature-induced reversible single-crystal-to-single-crystal transition (SCSCT).

Abstract
Extended reach: A calculated mechanism for long-range proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET, see picture) through an array of structured water molecules between Fe(III)-Fe(III) complexes accounts for the reaction enthalpy and kinetic isotope effect previously measured for this reaction. This mechanism may be general and occur for other hydroxo-metal complexes.
