Abstract
An enantioselective three-component radical reaction of quinolines or pyridines with enamides and α-bromo carbonyl compounds by dual photoredox and chiral Brønsted acid catalysis is presented. A range of valuable chiral γ-amino-acid derivatives are accessible in high chemo-, regio-, and enantioselectivity from simple, readily available starting materials under mild reaction conditions. Using the same strategy, the asymmetric synthesis of 1,2-diamine derivatives is also reported.

Abstract
Highly efficient drug-delivery tools for membrane-impermeable compounds, proteins, and nucleic acids in living cells are useful in the fields of chemical biology and drug discovery, and such tools have been widely studied. One strategy in the development of novel drug-delivery tools is to utilize cell-penetrating peptide (CPP) foldamers. CPP foldamers are folded oligopeptides that possess cell membrane permeability. In recent decades, a wide variety of CPP foldamers have been reported by many groups. Herein, CPP foldamers are introduced and discussed from the viewpoints of component monomers (amino acids) and their application as drug-delivery tools.

Abstract
There has been growing interest in performing organocatalysis within a supramolecular system as a means of controlling reaction reactivity and stereoselectivity. Here, a protein is used as a host for iminium catalysis. A pyrrolidine moiety is covalently linked to biotin and introduced to the protein host streptavidin for organocatalytic activity. Whereas in traditional systems stereoselectivity is largely controlled by the substituents added to the organocatalyst, enantiomeric enrichment by the reported supramolecular system is completely controlled by the host. Also, the yield of the model reaction increases over 10-fold when streptavidin is included. A 1.1 Å crystal structure of the protein-catalyst complex and molecular simulations of a key intermediate reveal the chiral scaffold surrounding the organocatalytic reaction site. This work illustrates that proteins can be an excellent supramolecular host for driving stereoselective secondary amine organocatalysis.

Abstract
The asymmetric Michael reaction of nitroalkanes and β,β-disubstituted α,β-unsaturated aldehydes was catalyzed by diphenylprolinol silyl ether to afford 1,4-addition products with an all-carbon quaternary stereogenic center with excellent enantioselectivity. The reaction is general for β-substituents such as β-aryl and β-alkyl groups, and both nitromethane and nitroethane can be employed. The addition of nitroethane is considered a synthetic equivalent of the asymmetric Michael reaction of ethyl and acetyl substituents by means of radical denitration and Nef reaction, respectively. The short asymmetric synthesis of (S)-ethosuximide with a quaternary carbon center was accomplished by using the present asymmetric Michael reaction as the key step. The reaction mechanism that involves the E/Z isomerization of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes, the retro-Michael reaction, and the different reactivity between nitromethane and nitroethane is discussed.

Abstract
The enantioselective construction of all-carbon quaternary stereocenters is one of the most challenging fields in asymmetric synthesis. An asymmetric desymmetrization strategy offers an indirect and efficient method for the formation of all-carbon stereocenters. An enantioselective formation of cyano-bearing all-carbon quaternary stereocenters in 1,2,3,4,-tetrahydroquinolines and 2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-benzo[b]azepines by copper-catalyzed desymmetric N-arylation is demonstrated. The cyano group at the prochiral center plays a key role for the high enantioselectivity and works as an important functional group for further transformations. DFT studies provide a model which successfully accounts for the origin of enantioselectivity.
