Abstract
1,3,2-Diazaphospholenes (DAPs) are an emerging class of organic hydrides. In this work, we exploited them as efficient catalysts for very mild reductive Claisen rearrangements. The method is tolerant towards a wide variety of functional groups and operates at ambient temperature. Besides being enantiospecific for substrates with existing stereogenic centers, the diastereoselectivity can be switched by varying solvents and DAP catalysts. The reaction kinetics show direct rearrangements of O-bound phospholene enolates and provide a proof-of-principle for catalytic enantioselective reactions.

Abstract
The concise total syntheses of (-)-indoxamycins A and B is reported. The chemistry features a seven-step preparation of a highly congested [5.5.6] tricyclic advanced common intermediate from a readily available R-carvone derivative. Key steps involve a Pauson-Khand reaction for the rapid construction of a basic scaffold bearing a quaternary carbon, a copper-catalyzed Michael addition for the introduction of another adjacent all-carbon quaternary stereocenter, and a tandem retro-oxa-Michael addition/1,2-addition/oxa-Michael addition for the installation of a trisubstituted olefin side chain. This synthetic strategy allows for easy access to both enantiomers of this family of natural products and their analogues from cost-effective starting material through straightforward chemical transformations.

Abstract
Methods for functionalizing carbon-hydrogen bonds are featured in a new synthesis of the tricyclic core architecture that characterizes the indoxamycin family of secondary metabolites. A unique collaboration between three laboratories has engendered a design for synthesis featuring two sequential C-H functionalization reactions, namely a diastereoselective dirhodium carbene insertion followed by an ester-directed oxidative Heck cyclization, to rapidly assemble the congested tricyclic core of the indoxamycins. This project exemplifies how multi-laboratory collaborations can foster conceptually novel approaches to challenging problems in chemical synthesis.
