Abstract
The known sesquiterpenes that arise biosynthetically from hedycaryol are summarised. Reasonings for the assignments of their absolute configurations are discussed. The analysis provided here suggests that reprotonations at the C1=C10 double bond of hedycaryol are directed toward C1 and generally lead to 6-6 bicyclic compounds, while reprotonations at the C4=C5 double bond occur at C4 and result in 5-7 bicyclic compounds. Abstract
Analysis of the volatile terpenes produced by seven fungal strains of the genus Trichoderma by use of a closed-loop stripping apparatus (CLSA) revealed a common production of harzianone, a bioactive, structurally unique diterpenoid consisting of a fused tetracyclic 4,7,5,6-membered ring system. The terpene cyclization mechanism was studied by feeding experiments using selectively 13 C- and 2 H-labeled synthetic mevalonolactone isotopologues, followed by analysis of the incorporation patterns by 13 C NMR spectroscopy and GC/MS. The structure of harzianone was further supported from a 13 C,13 C COSY experiment of the in-vivo-generated fully 13 C-labeled diterpene.

Abstract
Genome sequences of social amoebae reveal the presence of terpene cyclases (TCs) in these organisms. Two TCs from Dictyostelium discoideum converted farnesyl diphosphate into (2S,3R,6S,9S)-(-)-protoillud-7-ene and (3S)-(+)-asterisca-2(9),6-diene. The enzyme mechanisms and EI-MS fragmentations of the products were studied by labeling experiments.

Abstract
A terpene cyclase from Streptomyces pristinaespiralis was characterized as the synthase for (+)-(2S,3S,9R)-pristinol. The structure of this sesquiterpene alcohol, which has a new carbon skeleton, was established by NMR spectroscopy and single-wavelength anomalous-dispersion X-ray crystallography. Extensive isotopic labelling experiments were performed to distinguish between various possible cyclization mechanisms of the terpene cyclase and to decipher the EI-MS fragmentation mechanism for pristinol.

Abstract
An uncharacterized terpene cyclase from Streptomyces pratensis was identified as (+)-(1(10)E,4E,6S,7R)-germacradien-6-ol synthase. The enzyme product exists as two interconvertible conformers, resulting in complex NMR spectra. For the complete assignment of NMR data, all fifteen ((13)C1)FPP isotopomers (FPP=farnesyl diphosphate) and ((13)C15)FPP were synthesized and enzymatically converted. The products were analyzed using various NMR techniques, including (13)C, (13)C COSY experiments. The ((13)C)FPP isotopomers were also used to investigate the thermal rearrangement and EI fragmentation of the enzyme product.
