Abstract
A series of molecular group 2 polyphosphides has been synthesized by using air-stable [Cp*Fe(η5 -P5 )] (Cp*=C5 Me5 ) or white phosphorus as polyphosphorus precursors. Different types of group 2 reagents such as organo-magnesium, mono-valent magnesium, and molecular calcium hydride complexes have been investigated to activate these polyphosphorus sources. The organo-magnesium complex [(Dipp BDI-Mg(CH3 ))2 ] (Dipp BDI={[2,6-i Pr2 C6 H3 NCMe]2 CH}- ) reacts with [Cp*Fe(η5 -P5 )] to give an unprecedented Mg/Fe-supramolecular wheel. Kinetically controlled activation of [Cp*Fe(η5 -P5 )] by different mono-valent magnesium complexes allowed the isolation of Mg-coordinated formally mono- and di-reduced products of [Cp*Fe(η5 -P5 )]. To obtain the first examples of molecular calcium-polyphosphides, a molecular calcium hydride complex was used to reduce the aromatic cyclo-P5 ring of [Cp*Fe(η5 -P5 )]. The Ca-Fe-polyphosphide is also characterized by quantum chemical calculations and compared with the corresponding Mg complex. Moreover, a calcium coordinated Zintl ion (P7 )3- was obtained by molecular calcium hydride mediated P4 reduction.

Abstract
The bis(amidodimethyl)disiloxane antimony chlorides Sb(NONR )Cl (NONR =[O(SiMe2 NR)2 ]2- ; R=tBu, Ph, 2,6-Me2 C6 H3 =Dmp, 2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 =Dipp, 2,6-(CHPh2 )2 -4-tBuC6 H2 =tBu-Bhp) are reduced to SbII and SbI species by using MgI reagents, [Mg(BDIR' )]2 (BDI=[HC{C(Me)NR'}2 ]- ; R'=2,4,6-Me3 C6 H2 =Mes, Dipp). Stoichiometric reactions with Sb(NONR )Cl (R=tBu, Ph) form dimeric SbII stibanes [Sb(NONR )]2 , shown crystallographically to contain Sb-Sb single bonds. The analogous distibane with R=Dmp substituents has an exceptionally long Sb-Sb interaction and exhibits spectroscopic and reactivity properties consistent with radical character in solution. When R=Dipp, reductions with MgI reagents directly give distibenes [Sb(μ-NONDipp )Mg(BDIR' )(THF)n ]2 (R'=Mes, n=1; R'=Dipp, n=0). Crystallographic analysis shows a trans-substitution of the Sb=Sb double bond, with bridging NONDipp -ligands between the SbI and MgII centres. An attempt to access the NONPh -analogue using the same protocol afforded the polystibide cluster Sb8 [μ4 ,η2:2:2:2 -Mg(BDIMes )]4 , which co-crystallized with the ligand transfer product, [Mg(BDIMes )]2 (μ-NONPh ).

Abstract
In a systematic study of the activation of As4, three [LCo(tol)] (L=β‐diiminato) complexes have revealed different steric and electronic influences. 2,6‐Diisopropylphenyl (Dipp) and 2,6‐dimethylphenyl (dmp) flanking groups were used, one of the ligands with H backbone substituents (β‐dialdiminate L0) and two with Me substituents (β‐diketiminates L3 and L1). In the reaction with As4, different dinuclear products [(LCo)2As4] (LM=L0 (1), L1 (2), L3 (3)) were isolated, with all showing differently shaped [Co2As4] cores in the solid state: octahedral in 1, prismatic in 2, and asterane‐like in 3. Thermal treatment of 3 leads to the abstraction of one arsenic atom to yield [(L3Co)2As3] (4). All products were comprehensively characterized by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction, FD‐MS, and 1H NMR spectroscopy. A rational explanation for the different reactivity is also proposed and DFT calculations shed light on the nature of the highly flexible [Co2As4] cores.

Abstract
Zintl ions in molecular compounds are of fundamental interest for basic research and application. Two reactive antimony sources are presented that allow direct access to molecular polystibide compounds. These are Sb amalgam (Sb/Hg) and ultrasmall Sb0 nanoparticles (d=6.6±0.8 nm), which were used independently as precursors for the synthesis of the largest f-element polystibide, [(Cp*2 Sm)4 Sb8 ]. Whereas the reaction of the nanoparticles with [Cp*2 Sm] directly led to [(Cp*2 Sm)4 Sb8 ], Sm/Sb/Hg intermediates were isolated when using Sb/Hg as the precursor. These Sm/Sb/Hg intermediates [{(Cp*2 Sm)2 Sb}2 (μ-Hg)] and [{(Cp*2 Sm)3 (μ4 ,η1:2:2:2 -Sb4 )}2 Hg] were synthetically trapped and structurally characterized, giving insight in the formation mechanism of polystibide compounds.

Abstract
Two equivalents of LGa (L=HC[C(Me)N(2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 )]2 ) reacted with PX3 (X=Cl, Br) with insertion into two P-X bonds and formation of [L(X)Ga]2 PX (X=Cl 1, Br 2), whereas the analogous reaction with AsCl3 occurred with twofold insertion and subsequent elimination of LGaCl2 and formation of the Ga-substituted diarsene [L(Cl)Ga]2 As2 (3). Analogous findings were observed in the reactions with Me2 NAsCl2 , yielding the unsymmetrically-substituted diarsene [L(Cl)Ga]As=As[Ga(NMe2 )L] (4). The reaction of As(NMe2 )3 with LGa gave [L(Me2 N)Ga]2 As2 (5) after heating at 165 °C for five days, whereas the reaction with LAl gave [L(Me2 N)Al]2 As2 (6) after heating at only 80 °C for one day. Finally, two equivalents of LGa reacted with Bi(NEt2 )3 to give [L(Et2 N)Ga]2 Bi2 (7). Complexes 1-7 were characterized by NMR spectroscopy (1 H, 13 C, 31 P), elemental analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (except for 1 and 5). The bonding situations in 4, 6, and 7 were analyzed by quantum chemical calculations.

Abstract
[Cp*Sb]4 (Cp*=C5 Me5 ) reacts with [L1 Mg]2 and L2 Ga with formation of [(L1 Mg)4 (μ4 ,η1:2:2:2 -Sb4 )] (L1 =iPr2 NC[N(2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 )]2 , 1) and [(L2 Ga)2 (μ,η2:2 -Sb4 )] (L2 =HC[C(Me)N(2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 )]2 , 2). The cleavage of the Sb-Sb and Sb-C bonds in [Cp*Sb]4 are the crucial steps in both reactions. The formation of 1 occurred by elimination of the Cp* anion and formation of Cp*MgL1 , while 2 was formed by reductive elimination of Cp*2 and oxidative addition of L2 Ga to the Sb4 unit. 1 and 2 were characterized by heteronuclear NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and their bonding situation was studied by quantum chemical calculations.
