Abstract
Carbon-fluorine bonds are stable and have demonstrated sluggishness against various chemical manipulations. However, selective transformations of C-F bonds can be achieved by developing appropriate conditions as useful synthetic methods in organic chemistry. This review focuses on C-C bond formation at monofluorinated sp3 -hybridized carbons via C-F bond cleavage, including cross-coupling and multi-component coupling reactions. The C-F bond cleavage mechanisms on the sp3 -hybridized carbon centers can be primarily categorized into three types: Lewis acids promoted F atom elimination to generate carbocation intermediates; nucleophilic substitution with metal or carbon nucleophiles supported by the activation of C-F bonds by coordination of Lewis acids; and the cleavage of C-F bonds via a single electron transfer. The characteristic features of alkyl fluorides, in comparison with other (pseudo)halides as promising electrophilic coupling counterparts, are also discussed.

Abstract
The development of novel Lewis acids derived from bipyridinium and phenanthrolinium dications is reported. Calculations of Hydride Ion Affinity (HIA) values indicate high carbon-based Lewis acidity at the ortho and para positions. This arises in part from extensive LUMO delocalization across the aromatic backbones. Species [C10 H6 R2 N2 CH2 CH2 ]2+ (R=H [1 a]2+ , Me [1 f]2+ , tBu [1 g]2+ ), and [C12 H4 R4 N2 CH2 CH2 ]2+ (R=H [2 a]2+ , Me [2 b]2+ ) were prepared and evaluated for use in the initiation of hydrodefluorination (HDF) catalysis. Compound [2 a]2+ proved highly effective towards generating catalytically active silylium cations via Lewis acid-mediated hydride abstraction from silane. This enabled the HDF of a range of aryl- and alkyl- substituted sp3 (C-F) bonds under mild conditions. The protocol was also adapted to effect the deuterodefluorination of cis-2,4,6-(CF3 )3 C6 H9 . The dications are shown to act as hydride acceptors with the isolation of neutral species C16 H14 N2 (3 a) and C16 H10 Me4 N2 (3 b) and monocationic species [C14 H13 N2 ]+ ([4 a]+ ) and [C18 H21 N2 ]+ ([4 b]+ ). Experimental and computational data provide further support that the dications are initiators in the generation of silylium cations.

Abstract
Due to the significance of hybrid systems in drug discovery, there is an urgent need to assemble multiple biologically active ingredients into a single molecule. Here, we report a general transition-metal-free selective C-H benzylation of tertiary arylamines in good to excellent yields with a broad substrate scope and high functional-group tolerance under mild conditions. Besides arylamines, some other benzene derivatives also readily furnished the corresponding diaryl methane derivatives with this protocol. A series of control experiments and theoretical calculations indicated that this transition-metal-free reaction is a dearomatization-aromatization process.

Abstract
Reaction of PPh3 and [(p-ClC6 H4 )N2 ][BF4 ] affords [(p-ClC6 H4 )N(PPh3 )N(PPh3 )][BF4 ] 1, while reaction with (Ph2 PCH2 )2 gave [(p-ClC6 H4 )(NPh2 PCH2 )2 )][BF4 ] 2. These species confirm the Lewis acidity of [(p-ClC6 H4 )N2 (PR3 )][BF4 ] cations at N. In contrast, use of bulky phosphines afford the species [ArN2 (PR3 )][BF4 ] (R=tBu 3, Mes 4). Compound 3 undergoes one electron reduction to give the stable radical [(p-ClC6 H4 )N2 (PtBu3 )]. 5. Combination of 3 and PtBu3 acts as an FLP to effect (SPh)2 cleavage, generating [PhSPtBu3 ]+ and the radical [ArN2 (PR3 )]. . Collectively, these data affirm the ability of the cations [ArN2 (PR3 )]+ to behave as one or two electron acceptors.

Abstract
Highly electronically deactivated benzylic alcohols, including those with a CF3 group adjacent to the OH-bearing carbon, undergo dehydrative Friedel-Crafts reactions upon exposure to catalytic Brønsted acid in 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol (HFIP) solvent. Titration and kinetic experiments support the involvement of higher order solvent/acid clusters in catalysis.
