Abstract
We report herein the design and development of Co/Al and Co/Mg bimetallic catalysts, supported by a phosphine/secondary phosphine oxide (PSPO) bifunctional ligand, for the site-selective C-H alkenylation of nitrogen-containing heteroarenes with alkynes. These catalysts enable the alkenylation of pyridine, pyridone, and imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine derivatives at the C-H site proximal to the Lewis basic nitrogen or oxygen atom, which represents a selectivity profile distinct from that of the previously developed cobalt-diphosphine/aluminum catalyst. The alkenylated products were obtained in moderate to good yields using various heterocycles and differently substituted internal alkynes. Kinetic isotope effect experiments suggest the irreversibility of the C-H activation step, the relevance of which to the rate-limiting step depends on the reaction conditions. Density functional theory calculations indicate that ligand-to-ligand hydrogen transfer is the common mechanism of C-H activation.

Asymmetric Hydroarylation Reactions Catalyzed by Transition Metals: Last 10 Years in a Mini Review. Catalysts 2022. Abstract
Hydroarylation reactions play a pivotal role in organic chemistry due to their versatility and efficiency. In the last 10 years, the scientific production around this reaction has been very high, but in its asymmetric version, the results are less. In this mini review, selected literature examples are considered to draw attention to directions of the asymmetric hydroarylation reaction mediated by transition metal catalysts. The selected works were grouped in two main sections. In the first, we reported examples relating the narrower definition of hydroarylation, namely the metal-catalyzed processes where inactivated aryl moiety undergoes a direct functionalization via insertion of an unsaturated compound. In the second part, hydroarylation reactions take place with the use of pre-activated aryl substrates, usually aryl-iodides or aryl-boronated.

Abstract
An efficient and general intermolecular Cobalt(II)-catalyzed asymmetric alkylation of styrenes with (hetero)arenes including indoles, thiophene and electron rich arenes has been developed, providing straightforward access to enantioenriched alkyl(hetero)arenes with high enantioselectivity. Mechanistic studies suggest that the reaction underwent a CoH-mediated hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) with alkenes, followed by a pivotal catalyst-controlled SN 2-like pathway between in situ generated organocobalt(IV) species and aromatic nucleophiles. This is the first CoH-catalyzed asymmetric hydrofunctionalization using carbon nucleophiles, providing a new strategy for asymmetric Friedel-Crafts type alkylation.

Abstract
The transition-metal-catalyzed C-N cross-coupling has revolutionized the construction of amines. Despite the innovations of multiple generations of ligands to modulate the reactivity of the metal center, ligands for the low-temperature enantioselective amination of aryl halides remain a coveted target of catalyst engineering. Designs that promote one elementary reaction often create bottlenecks at other steps. We here report an unprecedented low-temperature (as low as -50 °C), enantioselective Ni-catalyzed C-N cross-coupling of aryl chlorides with sterically hindered secondary amines via a kinetic resolution process (s factor up to >300). A bulky yet flexible chiral N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand is leveraged to drive both oxidative addition and reductive elimination with low barriers and control the enantioselectivity. Computational studies indicate that the rotations of multiple σ-bonds on the C2 -symmetric chiral ligand adapt to the changing needs of catalytic processes. We expect this design would be widely applicable to diverse transition states to achieve other challenging metal-catalyzed asymmetric cross-coupling reactions.

Abstract
The discovery of NHCs (NHC = N-heterocyclic carbenes) as ancillary ligands in transition-metal-catalysis ranks as one of the most important developments in synthesis and catalysis. It is now well-recognized that the strong σ-donating properties of NHCs along with the ease of scaffold modification and a steric shielding of the N-wingtip substituents around the metal center enable dramatic improvements in catalytic processes, including the discovery of reactions that are not possible using other ancillary ligands. In this context, although the classical NHCs based on imidazolylidene and imidazolinylidene ring systems are now well-established, recently tremendous progress has been made in the development and catalytic applications of BIAN-NHC (BIAN = bis(imino)acenaphthene) class of ligands. The enhanced reactivity of BIAN-NHCs is a direct result of the combination of electronic and steric properties that collectively allow for a major expansion of the scope of catalytic processes that can be accomplished using NHCs. BIAN-NHC ligands take advantage of (1) the stronger σ-donation, (2) lower lying LUMO orbitals, (3) the presence of an extended π-system, (4) the rigid backbone that pushes the N-wingtip substituents closer to the metal center by buttressing effect, thus resulting in a significantly improved control of the catalytic center and enhanced air-stability of BIAN-NHC-metal complexes at low oxidation state. Acenaphthoquinone as a precursor enables facile scaffold modification, including for the first time the high yielding synthesis of unsymmetrical NHCs with unique catalytic properties. Overall, this results in a highly attractive, easily accessible class of ligands that bring major advances and emerge as a leading practical alternative to classical NHCs in various aspects of catalysis, cross-coupling and C-H activation endeavors.

Abstract
Asymmetric coupling proceeds efficiently between propargylic acetates, cycloalkenes and electron-rich heteroarenes including indoles, pyrroles, activated furans and thiophenes. 2,3-Disubstituted tetrahydrofurans and pyrrolidines are produced in trans configuration and excellent enantiomeric ratios. The reaction proceeds via Wacker-type attack of nucleophilic heteroarenes on alkenes activated by allenyl PdII species.

Abstract
A nickel-catalyzed asymmetric reductive hydroarylation of vinyl amides to produce enantioenriched α-arylbenzamides is reported. The use of a chiral bisimidazoline (BIm) ligand, in combination with diethoxymethylsilane and aryl halides, enables the regioselective introduction of aryl groups to the internal position of the olefin, forging a new stereogenic center α to the N atom. The use of neutral reagents and mild reaction conditions provides simple access to pharmacologically relevant motifs present in anticancer, SARS-CoV PLpro inhibitors, and KCNQ channel openers.

Abstract
This work presents a DFT-based computational study on the regio- and enantioselective C-H functionalization of pyridines with alkenes at the relatively unreactive C4-position, which was successfully achieved by Shi et al. [J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2019, 141, 5628-5634] using Ni0 /N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) catalysis under the assistance of an aluminum-based Lewis acid additive (2,6-tBu2 -4-Me-C6 H2 O)2 AlMe (MAD). The calculations indicate that the selective functionalization involves a three-step mechanism in which a unique H-migration assisted oxidation metalation (HMAOM) step is identified as the rate- and enantioselectivity-determining step. The newly proposed mechanism can well rationalize the experimental observation that the preferred product is the endo-type (vs. exo-type), R-configuration (vs. S-configuration) product at the C4 (vs. C2) position, and also unveil the reasons that the NHC ligand and the MAD additive can facilitate the reaction.

Abstract
Twofold C-H annulation of readily available formamides and alkynes without built-in chelating groups was achieved. Ni-Al bimetallic catalysis enabled by a bulky BINOL-derived chiral secondary phosphine oxide (SPO) ligand proved to be critical for high reactivity and high selectivity. This reaction uses readily available formamides as starting materials and provides a concise synthetic pathway to a broad range of chiral ferrocenes in 40-98 % yield and 93-99 % ee.
