Development and Elucidation of a Pd‐Based Cyclization–Oxygenation Sequence for Natural Product Synthesis

Four-Step Synthesis of (-)-4-epi-Presilphiperfolan-8α-ol by Intramolecular Iron Hydride Atom Transfer-Mediated Ketone-Alkene Coupling and Studies to Access trans-Hydrindanols with a Botryane Scaffold

From an (R)-(+)-pulegone-derived building block that incorporates the stereo-defined tertiary carbon bearing a methyl group, as found in the targeted sesquiterpenoid, a four-step synthesis of (-)-4-epi-presilphiperfolan-8-α-ol was achieved. The key processes involved are a ring-closing metathesis leading to a bridged alkene-tethered ketone and its subsequent Fe^III -mediated metal-hydride atom transfer (MHAT) transannular cyclization. This synthetic method, implying an irreversible addition of a carbon-centered radical upon a ketone by means of a hydrogen atom transfer upon the alkoxy radical intermediate, was also applied in the synthesis of trans-fused hydrindanols structurally related to botrydial compounds.

Pd0 -Catalyzed Asymmetric Carbonitratation Reaction Featuring an H-Bonding-Driven Alkyl-PdII -ONO2 Reductive Elimination

Reductive elimination of alkyl-Pd^II -O is a synthetically useful yet underdeveloped elementary reaction. Here we report that the combination of an H-bonding donor [PyH][BF₄ ] and AgNO₃ additive under toluene/H₂ O biphasic system can enable such elementary step to form alkyl nitrate. This results in the Pd⁰ -catalyzed asymmetric carbonitratations of (Z)-1-iodo-1,6-dienes with (R)-BINAP as the chiral ligand, affording alkyl nitrates up to 96 % ee. Mechanistic studies disclose that the reaction consists of oxidative addition of Pd⁰ catalyst to vinyl iodide, anion ligand exchange between I^- and NO₃ ^- , alkene insertion and S_N 2-type alkyl-Pd^II -ONO₂ reductive elimination. Evidences suggest that H-bonding interaction of PyH⋅⋅⋅ONO₂ can facilitate dissociation of O₂ NO^- ligand from the alkyl-Pd^II -ONO₂ species, thus enabling the challenging alkyl-Pd^II -ONO₂ reductive elimination to be feasible.

p-Type Charge Transfer Doping of Graphene Oxide with (NiCo)1-y Fey Ox for Air-Stable, All-Inorganic CsPbIBr2 Perovskite Solar Cells

The precise regulation of interfacial charge distribution highly determines the power conversion efficiency of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, inorganic (NiCo)_1-y Fe_y O_x nanoparticle decorated graphene oxide (GO) is successfully demonstrated as a hole booster for all-inorganic CsPbIBr₂ PSC free of precious metal electrode. Arising from the spontaneous electron transfer induced p-type doping of GO from edged oxygen-containing functional groups to (NiCo)_1-y Fe_y O_x , the best all-inorganic CsPbIBr₂ PSC achieves an efficiency of 10.95 % under one standard sun owing to the eliminated paradox between charge extraction and charge localization in GO surface. Furthermore, the champion device exhibits an excellent long-term stability at 10 % relative humidity without encapsulation over 70 days because of the suppressed ions migration.

A Concise Total Synthesis of (+)-Waihoensene Guided by Quaternary Center Analysis

The four contiguous all-carbon quaternary centers of waihoensene, coupled with the absence of any traditional reactive functional groups other than a single alkene, render it a particularly challenging synthetic target among angular triquinane natural products. Here, we show that its polycyclic frame can be assembled concisely by using a strategically chosen quaternary center to guide the formation of the other three through judiciously selected C-C bond formation reactions. Those events, which included a unique Conia-ene cyclization and a challenging Pauson-Khand reaction, afforded a 17-step synthesis of the molecule in enantioenriched form.
