Direct Synthesis of Phosphoryltriacetates from White Phosphorus via Visible Light Catalysis

Organophosphorus compounds (OPCs) are widely used in many fields. However, traditional synthetic routes in the industry usually involve multistep and hazardous procedures. Therefore, it's of great significance to construct such compounds in an environmentally-friendly and facile way. Herein, a photoredox catalytic method has been developed to construct novel phosphoryltriacetates. Using fac-Ir(ppy)3 (ppy=2-phenylpyridine) as the photocatalyst and blue LEDs (456 nm) as the light source, white phosphorus can react with α-bromo esters smoothly to generate phosphoryltriacetates in moderate to good yields. This one-step approach features mild reaction conditions and simple operational process without chlorination.

Synthesis and Reactivity of a Cyclooctatetraene-Like Polyphosphorus Ligand Complex [Cyclo-P8 ]

The thermolysis of Cp'''Ta(CO)₄ with white phosphorus (P₄ ) gives access to [{Cp'''Ta}₂ (μ,η^{2 : 2 : 2 : 2 : 1 : 1} -P₈ )] (A), representing the first complex containing a cyclooctatetraene-like (COT) cyclo-P₈ ligand. While ring sizes of n >6 have remained elusive for cyclo-P_n structural motifs, the choice of the transition metal, co-ligand and reaction conditions allowed the isolation of A. Reactivity investigations reveal its versatile coordination behaviour as well as its redox properties. Oxidation leads to dimerization to afford [{Cp'''Ta}₄ (μ₄ ,η^{2 : 2 : 2 : 2 : 2 : 2 : 2 : 2 : 1 : 1 : 1 : 1} -P₁₆ )][TEF]₂ (4, TEF=[Al(OC{CF₃ }₃ )₄ ]^- ). Reduction, however, leads to the fission of one P-P bond in A followed by rapid dimerization to form [K@[2.2.2]cryptand]₂ [{Cp'''Ta}₄ (μ₄ ,η^{2 : 2 : 2 : 2 : 2 : 2 : 2 : 2 : 1 : 1 : 1 : 1} -P₁₆ )] (5), which features an unprecedented chain-type P₁₆ ligand. Lastly, A serves as a P₂ synthon, via ring contraction to the triple-decker complex [{Cp'''Ta}₂ (μ,η^6 : 6 -P₆ )] (B).

Activation of Di-tert-butyldiphosphatetrahedrane: Access to (tBuCP)n (n=2, 4) Ligand Frameworks by P-C Bond Cleavage

The first mixed phosphatetrahedranes were reported only recently and their reactivity is virtually unexplored. Herein, we present a reactivity study on di‐tert‐butyldiphosphatetrahedrane (1), which is the dimer of tert‐butylphosphaalkyne. The (tBuCP)₂ tetrahedron is activated selectively by N‐heterocyclic carbene (NHC) nickel(I) and nickel(0) complexes, resulting in novel complexes featuring diverse (tBuCP)_n‐frameworks (n=2, 4). Release of the (tBuCP)₄ framework from one of the complexes was achieved by addition of CO gas. Furthermore, 1 can be used as a source for P₂ units by elimination of di‐tert‐butylacetylene in the coordination sphere of nickel.
