Versatile Direct Cyclization Constructs Spiro‐acridan Derivatives for Highly Efficient TADF emitters

A Tetrahedral Bisacridine Donor Enables Fast Radiative Decay in Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence Emitter

Achieving high efficiency and low efficiency roll-off simultaneously is of great significance for further application of thermally activated delayed fluorescent (TADF) emitters. A balance between radiative decay and reversed intersystem crossing must be carefully established. Herein, we propose a qunolino-acridine (QAc) donor composing two acridine with both planar (pAc) and bended (bAc) geometries. Combining with triazine, a TADF emitter QAc-TRZ is assembled. The pAc provides a well interaction with triazine which ensures a decent TADF behavior, while the bAc offers a delocalization of highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) which guarantees an enhancement of radiative decay. Remarkably, QAc-TRZ enables a highly efficient organic light emitting diode (OLED) with maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 37.3 %. More importantly, the efficiencies under 100/1000 cd m^-2 stay 36.3 % and 31.7 %, respectively, and remain 21.5 % even under 10 000 cd m^-2 .

Boron-Based Multi-Resonance TADF Emitter with Suppressed Intermolecular Interaction and Isomer Formation for Efficient Pure Blue OLEDs

Multi-resonance (MR) thermally activated delayed fluorescent (TADF) emitters are highly attractive due to their superior color purity as well as efficient light-harvesting ability from singlets and triplets. However, boron and nitrogen-based MR-TADF emitters suffer from their strong π-π interaction owing to their rigid flat cores. Herein, a boron-based multi-resonance blue TADF emitter with suppressed intermolecular interaction and isomer formation is developed through a simple synthetic process by introducing meta-xylene and meta-phenyphenyl groups to the core. The MR-TADF emitter, mBP-DABNA-Me, shows a narrowband blue emission with a peak at 467 nm, along with full width at half maximum of 28 nm, and photoluminescence quantum yield of 97%. Notably, highly efficient pure blue organic light-emitting diode (OLED) is realized using mBP-DABNA-Me, showing a maximum external quantum efficiency of 24.3% and a stable blue emission with a Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage coordinate of (0.124, 0.140). The color purity of the OLED is maintained at a high doping concentration of over 20%, attributed to the suppressed intermolecular interaction between the MR emitters.

Recent Developments for the Deuterium and Tritium Labeling of Organic Molecules

Organic compounds labeled with hydrogen isotopes play a crucial role in numerous areas, from materials science to medicinal chemistry. Indeed, while the replacement of hydrogen by deuterium gives rise to improved absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) properties in drugs and enables the preparation of internal standards for analytical mass spectrometry, the use of tritium-labeled compounds is a key technique all along drug discovery and development in the pharmaceutical industry. For these reasons, the interest in new methodologies for the isotopic enrichment of organic molecules and the extent of their applications are equally rising. In this regard, this Review intends to comprehensively discuss the new developments in this area over the last years (2017-2021). Notably, besides the fundamental hydrogen isotope exchange (HIE) reactions and the use of isotopically labeled analogues of common organic reagents, a plethora of reductive and dehalogenative deuteration techniques and other transformations with isotope incorporation are emerging and are now part of the labeling toolkit.
