Immobilizing Redox‐Active Tricycloquinazoline into a 2D Conductive Metal–Organic Framework for Lithium Storage

Hydrogen-bonded Complex-based Frameworks for Stable Lithium Storage

Metal-complex-based materials for lithium storage have attracted great interest due to their highly designable structures with multiple active sites and well-defined lithium transport pathways. Their cycling and rate performances, however, are still constrained by structural stability and electrical conductivity. Herein, we present two hydrogen-bonded complex-based frameworks with excellent lithium storage capability. Multiple hydrogen bonds among the mononuclear molecules result in three-dimensional frameworks that are stable in electrolyte. The origin of the remarkable lithium storage performance of this family was revealed through kinetic analysis and DFT calculations.

Highly Stable Metal-Organic Framework with Redox-Active Naphthalene Diimide Core as Cathode Material for Aqueous Zinc-Ion Batteries

Recently, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as the cathode materials for aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) received growing attention. Herein, a novel MOF, Ni-Ndi-trz (Ndi-trz=2,7-di(4H-1,2,4-triazol-4-yl)benzo[lmn][3,8]phenanthroline-1,3,6,8(2H,7H)-tetraone) was synthesized through a solvothermal method. Its rational design using a naphthalene diimide (Ndi) core allowed the formation of a four-fold interpenetrated pcu (primitive cubic) topology. The as-synthesized Ni-Ndi-trz is highly stable over a wide pH range (0-12) for 30 days, which is critical to ensure the decent cyclability of zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs). When used as the cathode material of ZIBs, it shows a high initial specific capacity of 90.7 mAh g^-1 and excellent cycling stability. Remarkably, three-electrode system tests, ex situ FTIR, UV/Vis and XPS spectra revealed that the Ndi core of Ni-Ndi-trz undergoes a reversible interconversion between the keto and enol forms when interacting with Zn²⁺ ions. This work may shed light on the feasibility of designing novel MOFs and exploring their mechanisms for zinc ion batteries.

A Triptycene-Based 2D MOF with Vertically Extended Structure for Improving the Electrocatalytic Performance of CO2 to Methane

Two-dimensional conductive metal-organic frameworks (2D-c-MOFs) have attracted extensive attention owing to their unique structures and physical-chemical properties. However, the planarly extended structure of 2D-c-MOFs usually limited the accessibility of the active sites. Herein, we designed a triptycene-based 2D vertically conductive MOF (2D-vc-MOF) by coordinating 2,3,6,7,14,15-hexahydroxyltriptycene (HHTC) with Cu²⁺ . The vertically extended 2D-vc-MOF(Cu) possesses a weak interlayer interaction, which leads to a facile exfoliation to the nanosheet. Compared with the classical 2D-c-MOFs with planarly extended 2D structures, 2D-vc-MOF(Cu) exhibits a 100 % increased catalytic activity in terms of turnover number and a two-fold increased selectivity. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations further revealed that higher activity originated from the lower energy barriers of the vertically extended 2D structures during the CO₂ reduction reaction process.
