Abstract
The fragmentations of argentinated N-allylbenzamides have been exhaustively studied through collision-induced dissociation and through deuterium labeling. The intriguing elimination of AgOH is certified as the consequence of intramolecular cyclization between terminal olefin and carbonyl carbon following proton transfer to carbonyl oxygen, rather than simple enolization of amide. Linear free energy correlations and density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed to understand the competitive relationship between AgOH loss and AgH loss, which results from the 1,2-elimination of α-hydrogen (to the amido nitrogen) with the silver.

Abstract
A series of modified nucleosides based on thymidine have been prepared by Pd-catalysed cross-coupling between N-alkyl-alkynyl functionalised pyrrolyl- (py), 2-(2-thienyl)pyrrolyl- (tp) or 2,5-bis(2-thienyl)pyrrolyl (tpt) groups with 5-iodo-2'-deoxyuridine. The length of the alkyl chain linking the nucleoside and pyrrolyl-containing unit, N(CH(2))(n)C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C-nucleoside (where n = 1-3) was also varied. The compounds have been characterised by (1)H NMR, ES-MS, UV-vis, cyclic voltammetry (CV) and, in some cases, single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Cyclic voltammetry studies demonstrated that all the py-, tp- and tpt-alkynyl derivatives 1-7 can be electrochemically polymerised to form conductive materials. It was found that increasing the N-alkyl chain length in these cases resulted in only minor changes in the oxidation potential. The same behaviour was observed for the tp- and tpt-modified nucleosides 9-12; however, the py-derivative, 8, produced a poorly conducting material. DFT calculations on the one-electron oxidised cation of the modified nucleosides bearing tp or tpt showed that spin density is located on the pyrrolyl and thienyl units in all cases and that the coplanarity of adjacent rings increases upon oxidation. In contrast, in the corresponding pyrrolyl cases the spin density is distributed over the whole molecule, suggesting that polymerisation does not occur solely at the pyrrolyl-Cα position and the conjugation is interrupted.

Abstract
[Chemical reaction: See text] A practical three-step synthesis of bis(pyrrol-2-yl)arylenes has been accomplished, featuring a copper-catalyzed tandem bidirectional addition of vinylmagnesium bromide to aryldicarboxylates. Spectroscopic and cyclic voltammetric analyses revealed the influence of the central aromatic core and pyrrole substitution pattern on the electrochemical properties of these comonomers.

Abstract
Ab initio (MP2/6-311+G and MP4(SDTQ)/6-311+G//MP2/6-311+G) and density functional (B3LYP/6-311+G) calculations on the ring closure reactions of conjugated nitrile ylides 1a-e, 3, and 6 to the corresponding oxazoles 2a, 5, 7, and 8; thiazoles 2b and 4; imidazole 2c; and pyrroles 2d and 2e, respectively, are reported. Vinyl nitrile ylides 1d and 1e cyclize with a substantially higher barrier than nitrile ylides containing a heteroatom. Geometric features as well as electronic structures as obtained by NBO analysis are indicative of a pericyclic, monorotatory 1, 5-electrocyclization of 1d and 1e. For nitrile ylides where X = heteroatom, a pseudopericyclic heteroelectrocyclization pathway, characterized by in-plane attack of the heteroatom's lone pair at the nitrile ylide group, is found. For 3 and 6, where two different cyclization products are possible, the calculated barriers and reaction energies are in line with the experimentally observed direction of reaction. Vinyl nitrile ylides 1d and 1e are characterized by an allene, acyl substituted derivatives 1a, 1b, 3, and 6 by a propargyl type structure. The nitrogen derivative 1c represents an intermediate case.
