Abstract
A Rh(I)-catalyzed carbene migration/carbonylation/cyclization (MCC) strategy has been established for the construction of diverse functionalized carbazoles from propargyl α-diazoindolacetates. Rh(I)-stabilized carbene with different electrophilic properties displays specific reactivity toward alkyne and CO during the transformation, ensuring the smooth progress of the tandem cyclization. Other heteroaryl scaffolds were achieved simultaneously through this cascade protocol, thus offering a straightforward pathway toward functionalized polycyclic aromatic molecule synthesis.

Abstract
Double C-H bond activation can enable an expeditious reaction pathway to cyclic compounds, offering an efficient tool to synthesize valuable molecules. However, cyclization reaction enabled by double C-H bond activation at one carbon atom is nearly unknown. Herein, we report a carbonylative formal cycloaddition of alkylarenes with imines via double benzylic C-H bond activation at one carbon atom, allowing a straightforward synthesis of β-lactams from readily accessible alkylarenes and imines, which paves the way for developing an annulation reaction through double C-H bond activation at one carbon atom.

Abstract
The Rh(I)-catalyzed cascade formation of carbenoid followed by a carbonylative cyclization of silyl diynes has been established to achieve diverse ortho silyl-substituted phenolics, enabling access to fully substituted aryne precursors via a one-step fluorosulfurylation. The silyl mask on the termini of alkynes is demonstrated not only to suppress the undesired oxidation but also to control the selectivity of CO insertion. Straightforward access to fully substituted arynes was comprehensively established and applied for the efficient construction of polycyclic aromatic molecules.

Abstract
Heterobimetallic Pd-K carbenes featuring Pd-Ccarbene-K moieties were synthesized via an unprecedented sequential substitution/reduction reaction from a radical precursor, [{PC˙(sp2)P} tBuPdI] ([PC(sp2)P] tBu = bis[2-(di-iso-propylphosphino)-4-tert-butylphenyl]methylene). Polymeric structures were observed in the solid state for the heterobimetallic compounds that can be interrupted in the presence of a donor solvent.

Abstract
Treatment of the complexes [Re(NO)2(PR3)2][BAr(F)4] (R = Cy, 1 a; R = iPr, 1 b) with phenyldiazomethane gave the cationic benzylidene species [Re{CH(C6H5)}(NO)2(PR3)2][BAr(F)4] (2 a and 2 b) in good yields. Upon reaction of 2 a and 2 b with acetonitrile, the consecutive formation of [Re(N[triple bond]CCH3)(N[triple bond]CPh)(NO)(OC(CH3)=NH)(PR3)][BAr(F)4] (3 a and 3 b) and [Re(NCCH3)(OC{CH3}NH{C6H5})(NO)(PR3)2][BAr(F)4] (4 a and 4 b) was observed. The proposed reaction sequence involves the coupling of coordinated NO, carbene and acetonitrile molecules to yield the (1Z)-N-[imino(phenyl)methyl]ethanimidate ligand. The coupling of the nitrosyl and the benzylidene is anticipated to occur first, forming an oximate species. The subsequent acetonitrile addition can be envisaged as a heteroene reaction of the oximate and the acetonitrile ligand yielding 3 a and 3 b, which in turn can cyclise and undergo a prototropic shift initiated by an internal attack of the ethaneimidate ligand on the benzonitrile moiety to afford 4 a and 4 b.

Abstract
A new general, synthetically simple, and safe method for the preparation of metal carbene complexes, which is based on diphenyl sulfonium salts as carbenoid precursors, has been developed, and its scope and applications were studied. In general, deprotonation of a sulfonium salt with a base results in a sulfur ylide, which, in turn, reacts with an appropriate metal precursor to give the corresponding metal carbene complex. Thus, starting from benzyldiphenylsulfonium salt, the complexes (PCX)Rh=CHPh (X = P, N) were prepared in quantitative yield. Syntheses of Grubbs' catalyst, (PCy(3))(2)Cl(2)Ru=CHPh, and of Werner's carbene, [Os(=CHPh)HCl(CO)(P(i)Pr(3))(2)], were achieved by this method. Novel trans-bisphosphine Rh and Ir carbenes, ((i)Pr(3)P)(2)(Cl)M=CHPh, which could not be prepared by other known methods, were synthesized by the sulfur ylide approach. The method is not limited to metal benzylidenes, as demonstrated by the preparation of the Ru vinyl-alkylidene, (PCy(3))(2)Cl(2)Ru=CH-CH=CH(2), methoxycarbonyl-alkylidene, (PCy(3))(2)Cl(2)Ru=CH(CO(2)Me), and alkylidene (PCy(3))(2)Cl(2)Ru=CH(CH(3)), (PCy(3))(2)Cl(2)Ru=CH(2) compounds. The problem of recycling of starting materials as well as the issue of facile purification of the product metal carbene complex were addressed by the synthesis of a polymer-supported diarylsulfide, the carrier of the carbenoid unit in the process. Based on the sulfur ylide route, a methodology for the synthesis of metallocarbenes anchored to a polymer via the carbene ligand, using a commercial Merrifield resin, was developed.

Abstract
A series of carbene complexes RhCl(CR'2)(PR3)2(R=Ph, Tol, Me, R'= Ph and Tol) have been synthesised through direct reaction of photochemically generated free diarylcarbene with RhCl(CO)(PR3)2. This route to carbene complexes demonstrates the reactivity of simple diarylcarbenes towards transition metal complexes. The reactivity of some of these complexes towards H2, C2H4 and Et3SiH has been investigated.

Di(p-tolyl)diazomethane reacts with the tripyrrinate TrpyPdOAc(F) 1 after activation with NaBAr(F) to yield the first stable Pd(II) complex 2 of a non-Arduengo type carbene ligand, which could be characterised by X-ray crystallography.
