Abstract
A facile, efficient and metal free one-flask approach to diversely substituted furans from easily accessible 3-chloro-3-phenyldiazirines and α,β-alkenyl ketones is reported. This protocol integrates three steps of cyclopropanation, Cloke–Wilson rearrangement and elimination of HCl in one-flask to give products in moderate to good yields. It provides a metal and oxidant free approach to multi-substituted furans with the advantages of easy operation, mild reaction conditions and a broad scope of substrates. A metal and oxidant free approach to multi-substituted furans from easily accessible 3-chloro-3-phenyldiazirines and α,β-alkenyl ketones in one flask.![]()

Abstract
Phosphorus-based organocatalysis encompasses several subfields that have undergone rapid growth in recent years. This Outlook gives an overview of its various aspects. In particular, we highlight key advances in three topics: nucleophilic phosphine catalysis, organophosphorus catalysis to bypass phosphine oxide waste, and organophosphorus compound-mediated single electron transfer processes. We briefly summarize five additional topics: chiral phosphoric acid catalysis, phosphine oxide Lewis base catalysis, iminophosphorane super base catalysis, phosphonium salt phase transfer catalysis, and frustrated Lewis pair catalysis. Although it is not catalytic in nature, we also discuss novel discoveries that are emerging in phosphorus(V) ligand coupling. We conclude with some ideas about the future of organophosphorus catalysis.

Abstract
A DBU-mediated, unprecedented formal ring expansion reaction of 2-acyl-3-arylcyclopropane-1,1-dicarbonitriles for the synthesis of multisubstituted furan derivatives is reported. This transformation represents the regioselective ring-opening reaction of cyclopropane-1,1-dicarbonitriles and annulation using an intramolecular addition cascade reaction protocol for the synthesis of fully substituted furans includes use of readily available starting materials, mild reaction conditions, and it is transition-metal catalyst free, has good functional tolerance, and broad substrate scope.

Abstract
A mild and highly stereoselective rhodium(II)-catalyzed cyclopropanation of alkenes, alkynes, and allenes with diacceptor diazo compounds is reported. Using the phosphonate moiety as an efficient trans-directing group, the first catalytic asymmetric route to diacceptor cycloprop(en)ylphosphonates was developed by employing an α-cyano diazophosphonate and Rh(2)(S-IBAZ)(4) as chiral catalyst. The isosteric character of phosphonic and carboxylic acid derivatives allowed the alternative use of an α-cyano diazo ester in the process, leading to α-cyano cycloprop(en)ylcarboxylates in high yields and stereoselectivities. Taking advantage of the particular reactivity of the cyanocarbene intermediates involved in this system, the scope of compatible substrates could be extended to substituted allenes, leading to the development of the first catalytic enantioselective method for the synthesis of diacceptor alkylidenecyclopropanes.

The development of new methodologies catalyzed by late transition metals involving cycloisomerizations of strained rings can open new venues for the synthesis of structurally complex molecules with interesting biological activities. Herein we summarize, from both a synthetic as well as a mechanistic point of view, the most recent developments in gold-catalyzed ring expansions.

Abstract
The highly selective tuning of the isomerization from 1-arylalka-1,2-dien-1-yllithium to 1-arylalka-1,2-dien-3-yllithium has been realized in the deprotonation of 1-arylalk-1-yne (conditions A and B) and carbolithiation of 1-arylbut-3-en-1-yne with alkyllithium (conditions C and D). Subsequent transmetallation and Pd-catalyzed Negishi coupling reactions afforded 1,1-diaryl or 1,3-diaryl allenes with high selectivity. Deuterium-labeling cross experiments indicated that an intermolecular lithiation process occurred in both 1,3-lithium shift conditions (conditions B and D). 1-Arylalka-1,2-diene was confirmed experimentally to be the intermediate. A computational study at the B3LYP level for the isomerization indicated that the acidity of H at the 3-position is higher than that of the H at the 1-position of 1-phenyl-1,2-butadiene. Under conditions B, iPr(2)NH acts as a proton carrier to finish the 1,3-lithium shift. The overall activation barrier for the rate-determining step in the solvated models is approximately 21.0 kcal mol(-1), indicating that the isomerization is reasonable at room temperature. For the isomerization under conditions D, DFT calculations indicated that the addition of TMEDA (tetramethylethylenediamine) and HMPA (hexamethylphosphoramide) changes the global minimum of the system; among the possible mechanisms (P1-P5) considered, the mechanism catalyzed by dilithiated species (P5) is the most probable one. The overall activation barriers for isomerization in THF and TMEDA solvated models are 22.6 and 19.7 kcal mol(-1), respectively, proving that the isomerization may proceed at RT in THF or at -78 degrees C with TMEDA, due to the fact that the solvation of the additives may increase the concentration of 1-phenyl-1,2-butadienyllithium monomer by a deaggregation effect.

Abstract
A convenient and efficient synthesis of substituted dihydrofurans is developed via ring-enlargement of 1-dimethylaminopropenoyl-1-carbamoyl/benzoyl cyclopropanes catalyzed by ammonium acetate in acetic acid with high regio- and stereoselectivity. Some of the newly synthesized substituted dihydrofurans are subjected to further synthetic transformation in the presence of NaOH (aq) in ethanol to afford the corresponding 5-aryl-2,3-dihydrofuro[3,2-c]pyridin-4(5H)-ones in high yields.

Abstract
Alkylidenecyclopropyl, cyclopropenyl, or azacyclocyclopropenyl ketones or carboxylates have been demonstrated to be versatile starting materials for the synthesis of oxygen- and/or nitrogen-containing heterocycles. The reactivities and regioselectivities may be nicely controlled by subtle choice of the catalysts and reaction condition parameters.
