Abstract
Direct synthesis of thermodynamically less favorable (Z)-vinyl sulfones presents a notable challenge in organic synthesis. In addition, the development of a stereodivergent synthesis for (E)- and (Z)-vinyl sulfones is crucial but remains elusive. In this study, we present a hydrosulfonylation of aryl-substituted alkynes, achieving a stereodivergent synthesis of (E)- and (Z)-vinyl sulfones by leveraging both thermodynamic and kinetic controls. Notably, the synthesis of challenging (Z)-vinyl sulfones was achieved through a kinetically controlled process without the need for a catalyst. To synthesize (E)-vinyl sulfones, unconventional visible light-mediated isomerization was employed as a means of facilitating the transition to the thermodynamically favored form. The present study encompasses a comprehensive experimental and computational investigation, which provides valuable insights into the reaction mechanism. This investigation reveals two plausible isomerization pathways: a novel double spin-flip mechanism and a hydrogen atom transfer process in the presence of eosin Y. This study not only advances our understanding of isomerization mechanisms beyond conventional energy-transfer routes but also offers a robust and switchable strategy for synthesizing (E)- and (Z)-vinyl sulfones, thereby providing a versatile avenue for the creation of valuable compounds in the fields of organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry.

Abstract
A catalytic asymmetric 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between iminoesters derived from 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) and different activated alkenes is reported. Excellent levels of diastereo and enantioselectivity were obtained when Fesulphos/CuI complex was used as catalyst. This metodology provides an effective and sustainable access to challenging enantioenriched heterocyclic scaffolds and represents one of the rare examples of catalytic asymmetric transformations using HMF as a starting material.

Abstract
A palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction of alkynylsulfones with alkenes has been described, which provides an efficient and practical entry to various functionalized dichlorinated vinyl sulfones. This method features excellent regio- and stereoselectivities, good functional group compatibility, as well as mild reaction conditions. Mechanistic studies suggest that the reaction goes through sequential syn-chloropalladation, alkene insertion, and C(sp3)-Cl bond formation processes, and the sulfonyl group is crucial to the stereoselectivity control of the reaction.

Abstract
Vinyl sulfones are privileged motifs known for their biological activity and synthetic utility. Synthetic transformations to efficiently access high-value compounds with these motifs are desired and sought after. Herein, a new procedure is described to form vinyl sulfone-containing compounds by selective functionalization of the C(sp3)-H bond adjacent to the pyridine ring of pharmacologically prevalent picolyl amides with an allenyl sulfone, 1-methyl-4-(propa-1,2-dien-1-ylsulfonyl)benzene. The reaction conditions are mild with no metal catalyst or additives required and display good functional group tolerance. Mechanistic studies for this unusual transformation suggest that the reaction operates via a rare pyridine-initiated and p-toluenesulfinate anion-mediated activation of the allenyl sulfone analogous to phosphine-triggered reactions.

Abstract
A convenient two-step preparation of NH-free 5-aryl-pyrrole-2-carboxylates is described. The synthetic route consists of catalytic borylation of commercially available pyrrole-2-carboxylate ester followed by Suzuki coupling without going through pyrrole N–H protection and deprotection steps. The resulting 5-aryl substituted pyrrole-2-carboxylates were synthesized in good- to excellent yields. This synthetic route can tolerate a variety of functional groups including those with acidic protons on the aryl bromide coupling partner. This methodology is also applicable for cross-coupling with heteroaryl bromides to yield pyrrole-thiophene, pyrrole-pyridine, and 2,3’-bi-pyrrole based bi-heteroaryls.

Abstract
An efficient arylation of SEM-protected pyrroles by the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction has been developed. The reaction can be carried out under mild conditions to provide aryl-substituted pyrroles in moderate to excellent yields. The scope and limitations of the methodology were evaluated, and the reaction was tolerant of a wide range of functionalities. Compared to the reported methods, the protocol has some advantages, such as commercially available materials, no debrominated by-products being formed, and the amine-protecting group being stable under the reaction conditions. The synthetic utility of the product has also been demonstrated, with several common transformations of the aryl-substituted pyrrole product being conducted. This protocol will offer the opportunity to explore other metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions employing SEM-protected pyrroles.

Abstract
Pyrroles are an important group of heterocyclic compounds with a wide range of interesting properties, which have resulted in numerous applications in a variety of fields. Despite the importance of these compounds, there have been few reports in the literature pertaining to the synthesis of pyrroles from simple alkenes using a one-pot sequential 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition/aromatization reaction sequence. Herein, we report the development of a benzoyl peroxide-mediated oxidative dehydrogenative aromatization reaction for the construction of pyrroles. We subsequently developed a one-pot tandem reaction that combined this new method with a well-defined silver-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction, thereby providing a practical method for the synthesis of multisubstituted pyrroles from easy available alkenes. The mechanism of this oxidative dehydrogenative aromatization reaction was also examined in detail.

Abstract
A large number of porphyrinoids containing 2,2'-bipyrrole subunits have appeared since they were originally found as a component of sapphyrin and corrole, and it was found that the bipyrrole subunit endowed macrocycles with specific geometric features and electronic properties. Synthetic methods for bipyrrole-containing precursors for porphyrinoid are summarized in this review; these include coupling reactions of pyrrole rings, pyrrole ring-forming reactions leading directly to bipyrrole units, and synthetic reactions for oligopyrrolic compounds. Some hybrid oligopyrroles having nonpyrrole (hetero)aromatic ring(s) are also included. This review also describes porphyrinoids composed of bipyrrole subunits. Interesting electronic properties derived from strong cyclo-π-conjugation are highlighted in the bipyrrole-based porphyrinoids with or without meso-like carbons. Anion-binding chemistry is one of the main topics for bipyrrole-based macrocycles with less efficient or deficient cyclo-π-conjugation, such as those linked with electronically localized aromatic ring(s), with sp3 carbon(s), and with amido or imine connection(s). The principal concern in this review is porphyrinoids of relatively large ring size, composed of more than five units of pyrroles and (hetero)aromatic substitutes in total, and so bipyrrole-based porphyrinoids up to five pyrrolic units, such as corroles, porphycenes, sapphyrins, and smaragdyrin, will not be covered here except for some special cases.

Abstract
A copper-catalyzed aerobic decarboxylative sulfonylation of alkenyl carboxylic acids with sodium sulfinates is developed. This study offers a new and expedient strategy for stereoselective synthesis of (E)-alkenyl sulfones that are widely present in biologically active natural products and therapeutic agents. Moreover, the transformation is proposed to proceed via a radical process and exhibits a broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance.

Abstract
Acortatarins A and B have been synthesized via stereoselective spirocyclizations of glycals. Mercury-mediated spirocyclization of a pyrrole monoalcohol side chain leads to acortatarin A. Glycal epoxidation and reductive spirocyclization of a pyrrole dialdehyde side chain leads to acortatarin B. Acid equilibration and crystallographic analysis indicate that acortatarin B is a contrathermodynamic spiroketal with distinct ring conformations compared to acortatarin A.

Abstract
N-heterocyclic carbenes catalyze the rearrangement of 1,1-bis(arylsulfonyl)ethylene to the corresponding trans-1,2-bis(phenylsulfonyl) under mild conditions. Tandem rearrangement/cycloadditions have been developed to capitalize on this new process and generate highly substituted isoxazolines and additional heterocyclic compounds. Preliminary mechanistic studies support a new conjugate addition/Umpolung process involving the ejection and subsequent unusual re-addition of a sulfinate ion.
