Abstract
The synthesis, characterisation and reactivity of new phosphine-functionalised tris(pyrazolyl)methane ligands (TpmPR2, 2a-c, with R = Ph, nBu, iPr) are presented. The reaction of 2a-c with [Rh(CO)2Cl]2 furnished N,P-heterochelate carbonyl complexes (3a-c), which were used to quantify the donor abilities of the ligands via IR spectroscopy. The coordination flexibility was demonstrated by treating representative members of this new ligand class with [CpRu(acn)3][PF6] (acn = acetonitrile), [(tht)AuCl] (tht = tetrahydrothiophene) and [Pd(allyl)Cl]2 providing either a N,N,P-heteroscorpionate complex (4) or the P-coordinated complexes (5,6) without any involvement of the pyrazolyl entities. With 2a and [Pd(cod)Cl2], another P,N-heterochelate complex (7) was obtained, which served as a precursor for a heterobimetallic complex containing palladium and copper (8). Detailed NMR spectroscopic and X-ray crystallographic investigations have been performed on all new complexes.

Abstract
A computationally guided synthetic route to a free silanide derived from tris(3-methylindol-2-yl)methane ([(tmim)Si]- ) through nucleophilic substitution on the SiII precursor (Idipp)SiCl2 is reported (Idipp=2,3-dihydro-1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-1H-imidazol-2-ylidene). This approach circumvents the need for strained tetrahedral silanes as synthetic intermediates. Computational investigations show that the electron-donating properties of [(tmim)Si]- are close to those of PMe3. Experimentally, the [(tmim)Si]- anion is shown to undergo clean complexation to the base metal salts CuCl and FeCl2 , demonstrating the potential utility as a supporting ligand.

Abstract
Conjugate addition of organometallic reagents to α,β-unsaturated carbonyls is a key strategy for the construction of carbon-carbon bond in organic synthesis. Although direct C-H addition to unsaturated bonds via transition metal catalysis is explored in recent years, electron-deficient arenes that do not bear directing groups continue to be challenging. Herein we disclose the first example of a conjugate addition of perfluoroarenes to α,β-unsaturated carbonyls enabled by an alkoxide-hydrosilane system. The reaction is convenient to carry out at room temperature over a broad range of substrates and reactants to furnish synthetically versatile products in high to excellent yields. Mechanistic experiments in combination with computational studies suggest that a radical pathway is most likely operative in this transformation. The hypervalent silicate and silanide species, which are relevant to the proposed mechanism, were observed experimentally by NMR and single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses.

Abstract
Closely following the procedure for the preparation of the base-stabilized dichlorosilylene complex NHCDipp ⋅SiCl2 reported by Roesky, Stalke, and co-workers (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2009, 48, 5683-5686), a few crystals of the salt [NHCDipp -H⋅⋅⋅Cl⋅⋅⋅H-NHCDipp ]Si(SiCl3 )3 were isolated, aside from the reported byproduct [NHCDipp -H+ ⋅⋅⋅Cl- ], and characterized by X-ray crystallography (NHCDipp =N,N-di(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazo-2-ylidene). They contain the weakly coordinating anion Si(SiCl3 )3- , which was also obtained in high yields upon deprotonation of the conjugate Brønsted acid HSi(SiCl3 )3 with NHCDipp or PMP (PMP=1,2,2,6,6-pentamethylpiperidine). The acidity of HSi(SiCl3 )3 was estimated by DFT calculations to be substantially higher than those of other H-silanes. Further DFT studies on the electronic structure of Si(SiCl3 )3- , including the electrostatic potential and the electron localizability, confirmed its low basicity and nucleophilicity compared with other silyl anions.

Abstract
Zwitterionic group 14 complexes of the alkali metals of formula [C(SiMe2OCH2CH2OMe)3M], (M-1), [Si(SiMe2OCH2CH2OMe)3M], (M-2), [Ge(SiMe2OCH2CH2OMe)3M], (M-3), where M = Li, Na or K, have been prepared, structurally characterized and their electronic nature was investigated by computational methods. Zwitterions M-2 and M-3 were synthesized via reactions of [Si(SiMe2OCH2CH2OMe)4] (2) and [Ge(SiMe2OCH2CH2OMe)4] (3) with MOBu t (M = Li, Na or K), resp., in almost quantitative yields, while M-1 were prepared from deprotonation of [HC(SiMe2OCH2CH2OMe)3] (1) with LiBu t , NaCH2Ph and KCH2Ph, resp. X-ray crystallographic studies and DFT calculations in the gas-phase, including calculations of the NPA charges confirm the zwitterionic nature of these compounds, with the alkali metal cations being rigidly locked and charge separated from the anion by the internal OCH2CH2OMe donor groups. Natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis and the second order perturbation theory analysis of the NBOs reveal significant hyperconjugative interactions in M-1-M-3, primarily between the lone pair and the antibonding Si-O orbitals, the extent of which decreases in the order M-1 > M-2 > M-3. The experimental basicities and the calculated gas-phase basicities of M-1-M-3 reveal the zwitterionic alkali metal methanides M-1 to be significantly stronger bases than the analogous silanides M-2 and germanium M-3.

Abstract
Tris(pentafluoroethyl)silane, which is conveniently accessible by the treatment of Si(C2 F5 )3 X (X=Cl, Br) with Bu3 SnH, was successfully employed for hydrosilylation reactions. In the presence of a palladium catalyst, hydrosilylation of phenylacetylene with Si(C2 F5 )3 H affords the product of an α-addition whereas the reaction of trimethylsilylacetylene with the silane leads to the β-trans product. Tris(pentafluoroethyl)silane can be deprotonated by sterically demanding bases such as lithium diisopropylamide at low temperatures to give the corresponding silanide ion. The addition of crown ethers or cryptands to this highly reactive species enabled the isolation and characterization of salt-like tris(pentafluoroethyl)silanide at room temperature.

Abstract
Polysilanes are known to exhibit the interesting property of σ-bond electron delocalization. By employing optical spectroscopy (UV-vis), it is possible to judge the degree of delocalization and also differentiate parts of the molecules which are conjugated or not. The current study compares oligosilanes of similar chain length but different substitution pattern. The size of the substituents determines the spatial orientation of the main chain and also controls the conformational flexibility. The chemical nature of the substituents affects the orbital energies of the molecules and thus the positions of the absorption bands.

Abstract
Oligosilanes with attached silatranyl units were obtained by reactions of potassium oligosilanides with a silatranyl triflate. Interaction between Si and N atoms was observed in the 29Si NMR spectra (upfield-shifted SiO3 resonances) and in the solid-state structures (Si-N distances between 2.29 and 2.16 Å). The Si-N interaction can be "switched off" either by protonation of the nitrogen lone pair or by potassium silanide formation caused by trimethylsilyl group cleavage in the presence of potassium tert-butoxide.

M-3 compounds feature spirocyclic bicyclooctane structures in which the central rare-earth metal ions are being octahedrally coordinated by six methoxy groups. The reaction of Yb-3 with BPh3 and W(CO)6 respectively generated the trinuclear zwitterions [Ph3BSi(SiMe2OMe)3-κ(3)]2Yb (Yb-4) and [(CO)5WSi(SiMe2OMe)3-κ(3)]2Yb (Yb-5) in good yield.

Abstract
Several monometallic {LO(i)}M complexes of lithium (M = Li; i = 1 (1), 2 (2), 3 (3)) or potassium (M = K, i = 3 (4)) and the heteroleptic bimetallic lithium complex {LO(3)}Li·LiN(SiMe2H)2 (5), all supported by monoanionic aminoether-phenolate {LO(i)}(-) (i = 1-3) ligands, have been synthesized and structurally characterized. A large range of coordination motifs is represented in the solid state, depending on the chelating ability of the ligand, the size of the metal and the number of metallic centres found in the complex. Pulse-gradient spin-echo NMR showed that 1-4 are monomeric in solution, irrespective of their (mono- or di)nuclearity in the solid-state. VT (7)Li and DOSY NMR measurements conducted for 5 indicated that the two Li atoms in the complex do not exchange positions even at 80 °C. Upon addition of 1-10 equiv. of BnOH, the electron-rich and sterically congested {LO(3)}Li complex (3) promotes the controlled living and immortal ring-opening polymerisation of L-lactide. The combination of polymer end-group analyses and stoichiometric model reactions unambiguously provided evidence that ROP reactions catalyzed by these two-component {LO(i)}Li/BnOH catalyst systems operate according to an activated monomer mechanism, and not via the coordination-insertion scenario frequently assumed for similar alkali phenolate-alcohol systems.
