Abstract
Bioactive NHC-transition metal complexes have shown promise as anti-cancer agents, but their potential use as radiosensitizers has been neglected so far. We disclose here a new series of bimetallic platinum(II) complexes displaying NHC-type bridging ligands, (bis-NHC)[trans-Pt(RNH2)I2]2, that have been synthesized via a simple, two-step procedure. They display cytotoxicity in the micromolar range on cancerous cell lines, accumulate in cells, and bind to genomic DNA, by inducing DNA damages. Notably, these bimetallic complexes demonstrate significant radiosensitizing effects on both ovarian cells A2780 and nonsmall lung carcinoma cells H1299. Further investigations revealed that bimetallic species make irradiation-induced DNA damages more persistent by inhibiting repair mechanisms. Indeed, a higher and persistent accumulation of both γ-H2AX and 53BP1 foci post-irradiation was detected, in the presence of the NHC-Pt complexes. Overall, we provide the first in vitro evidence for the radiosensitizing properties of NHC-platinum complexes, which suggests their potential use in combined chemo-radio therapy protocols.

Abstract
Dicationic ionic liquids (DILs), a subset of the ionic liquid (IL) family, have attracted growing interest in recent years, and the range of applications within which they are investigated is constantly expanding. However, data which allows structure to property correlation of a DIL is still limited, and thus selecting an appropriate salt to address a specific challenge can be problematic. In comparison to traditional ILs, DILs physico-chemical properties can be tuned by changing the length and type of spacer which connects the cationic heads as well as the type of cation. This in turn could give rise to symmetrical or asymmetrical DILs. In this work, a systematic study of a homogeneous class of 12 dibromide DILs and 12 di-carboxylate salts has been performed. The latter class of DILs were also compared to mono cation derivatives. The different traditional exchange methods to prepare carboxylate DILs have been evaluated and an insight into the drawbacks encountered is also presented. Prepared DILs were characterized (NMR, TGA, DSC) allowing the influence of the structure on their thermal stability to be understood. Most DILs were obtained as solid salts after careful drying. For some of these compounds, a new possible application was studied, namely their use as hydrogen bond acceptors (HBA) of deep eutectic mixtures, showing again some significant structural related effects.

Abstract
Radical anions are present in several chemical processes, and understanding the reactivity of these species may be described by their thermodynamic properties. Over the last years, the formation of radical ions in the gas phase has been an important issue concerning electrospray ionization mass spectrometry studies. In this work, we report on the generation of radical anions of quinonoid compounds (Q) by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. The balance between radical anion formation and the deprotonated molecule is also analyzed by influence of the experimental parameters (gas-phase acidity, electron affinity, and reduction potential) and solvent system employed. The gas-phase parameters for formation of radical species and deprotonated species were achieved on the basis of computational thermochemistry. The solution effects on the formation of radical anion (Q(•-)) and dianion (Q(2-)) were evaluated on the basis of cyclic voltammetry analysis and the reduction potentials compared with calculated electron affinities. The occurrence of unexpected ions [Q+15](-) was described as being a reaction between the solvent system and the radical anion, Q(•-). The gas-phase chemistry of the electrosprayed radical anions was obtained by collisional-induced dissociation and compared to the relative energy calculations. These results are important for understanding the formation and reactivity of radical anions and to establish their correlation with the reducing properties by electrospray ionization analyses.

Abstract
Highest heat of vaporization yet: The dicationic ionic liquid [C(3)(C(1)Im)(2)][Tf(2)N](2) evaporates as a neutral ion triplet. These neutral ion triplets can then be ionised to form singly and doubly charged ions. The mass spectrum exhibits the dication attached to one remaining anion, and the naked dication itself (see picture).

Abstract
The 1H-NMR shifts of the imidazolium protons of some novel dimeric ionic liquids were examined in various deuterated solvents. Interactions between the solvent and the imidazolium salt of butyl substituted ionic liquids were observed to give higher chemical shifts than methyl substitution.
