Abstract
We report on the design and synthesis of triptycene-peptide hybrids (TPHs), 5, syn-6, and anti-6, which are conjugates of a triptycene core unit with two or three cationic KKKGG peptides (K: lysine and G: glycine) through a C8 alkyl chain. It was discovered that syn-6 and anti-6 induce paraptosis, a type of programmed cell death (PCD), in Jurkat cells (leukemia T-lymphocytes). Mechanistic studies indicate that these TPHs induce the transfer of Ca2+ from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to mitochondria, a loss of mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm), tethering of the ER and mitochondria, and cytoplasmic vacuolization in the paraptosis processes.

Abstract
The silylated organochalcogen reagents 1,2-(Me3SiSCH2)2C6H4, and 1,2-(Me3SiSeCH2)2C6H4, were prepared from the corresponding organobromides and lithium trimethylsilanechalcogenolate Li[ESiMe3] (E = S, Se). They have been characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy ((1)H, (13)C, (77)Se) and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. and react under mild conditions with (1,3-bis(diphenylphosphino)propane)palladium(ii) chloride, [PdCl2(dppp)], to provide the dinuclear organochalcogenolate-bridged complexes [(dppp)2Pd2-μ-κ(2)S-{1,2-(SCH2)2C6H4}]X2, []X2 and [(dppp)2Pd2-μ-κ(2)Se-{1,2-(SeCH2)2C6H4}]X2, []X2 (X = Cl, Br) in good yield, respectively. Furthermore, the tetranuclear palladium complex [(dppp)4Pd4-μ-κ(4)S-{1,2,4,5-(SCH2)4C6H2}]X4, []X4 (X = Cl, Br) can be synthesized from the reaction of the tetrathiotetrasilane 1,2,4,5-(Me3SiSCH2)4C6H2, and [PdCl2(dppp)]. The structures of []X2, []X2 and []X4 were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction methods. A variety of NMR experiments including two-dimensional homonuclear and heteronuclear correlated spectra were used to probe the solution behaviour of the dinuclear complexes in more detail. These complexes were further characterized by electrospray ionization (ESI) mass spectrometry, and for []X2 and []X2, UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy.

Abstract
A unique Ni-catalyzed transformation is reported for the one-pot highly selective synthesis of previously unknown monoseleno-substituted 1,3-dienes starting from easily available terminal alkynes and benzeneselenol. The combination of a readily available catalyst precursor, Ni(acac)2, and an appropriately tuned phosphine ligand, PPh2Cy, resulted in the exclusive assembly of the s-gauche diene skeleton via the selective formation of C-C and C-Se bonds. The unusual diene products were stable under regular experimental conditions, and the products maintained the s-gauche geometry both in the solid state and in solution, as confirmed by X-ray analysis and NMR spectroscopy. Thorough mechanistic studies using ESI-MS revealed the key Ni-containing species involved in the reaction.

Abstract
An unprecedented sustainable procedure was developed to produce functionalized vinyl monomers H(2)C═C(R)(FG) starting from a mixture of sulfur and selenium compounds as a functional group donor (FG = S or Se). The reaction serves as a model for efficient utilization of natural resources of sulfur feedstock in oil and technological sources of sulfur/selenium. The catalytic system is reported with amazing ability to recognize SH/SeH groups in the mixture and selectively incorporate them into valuable organic products via wastes-free atom-economic reaction with alkynes (HC≡CR). Formation of catalyst active site and the mechanism of the catalytic reaction were revealed by joint experimental and theoretical study. The difference in reactivity of μ(1)- and μ(2)-type chalcogen atoms attached to the metal was established and was shown to play the key role in the action of palladium catalyst. An approach to solve a challenging problem of dynamically changed reaction mixture was demonstrated using adaptive tuning of the catalyst. The origins of the adaptive tuning effect were investigated at molecular level and were found to be governed by the nature of metal-chalcogen bond.
