Abstract
Various alkenes are formylated with dichloromethyl methyl ether (MOMCl2) by the combined use of SnCl4/2,6-dibromopyridine (B1) or AgOTf/pyridine (B4) via Friedel-Crafts-type reaction. The former reagent combination is mainly applied to α,α-diarylalkenes, while the latter one is applied not only to arylalkenes but also to some alkylalkenes. Vinyl aldehydes are exclusively obtained from alkenes that can possibly afford both allyl and vinyl aldehydes.

Abstract
An efficient synthesis of (E)-cinnamaldehydes by a metal-free DDQ-mediated oxidative transformation of allylarenes was developed. The protocol provides a practical method to prepare diverse (E)-cinnamaldehydes with broad functional group tolerance in good to excellent yields, including easy access to natural products randainal and geranyloxy sinapyl aldehyde from plant extracts. Finally, the mechanism of a single-electron transfer process was proposed.

Abstract
A general and highly chemoselective Pd-catalyzed protocol for the synthesis of α,β-unsaturated ketones by carbonylation of vinyl triflates and nonaflates is presented. Applying the specific monophosphine ligand cataCXium® A, the synthesis of various vinyl ketones as well as carbonylated natural product derivatives proceeds in good yields.

Abstract
The first example of copper-catalyzed direct formylation of alkenyl C-H bonds for the facile synthesis of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes has been developed. This transformation has demonstrated high reactivity, mild reaction conditions and a broad substrate scope. BrCHCl2 is expected to be developed as an efficient stoichiometric C1 building block in organic synthesis.

Abstract
The 1,2-(CH2 P(1-adamantyl)2 )2 C6 H4 (dadpx) coordinated palladium complex [(dadpx)Pd(OTf)2 ] (1) is a catalyst precursor for the isomerizing methoxycarbonylation of the internal double bond of methyl oleate, with an unprecedented selectivity (96 %) for the linear diester 1,19-dimethyl nonadecanedioate. Rapid formation of the catalytically active solvent-coordinated hydride species [(dadpx)PdH(MeOH)](+) (3-MeOH) is evidenced by NMR spectroscopy, and further isolation and X-ray crystal structure analysis of [(dadpx)PdH(PPh3 )](+) (3-PPh3 ). DFT calculations of key steps of the catalytic cycle unravel methanolysis as the decisive step for enhanced selectivity and the influence of the rigid adamantyl framework on this step by destabilization of transition states of unselective pathways.

Abstract
We report here the stereoconvergent formylation of (E/Z)-β-bromo-β-fluorostyrene mixtures with carbon monoxide and sodium formate catalyzed by palladium. Optimization of reaction conditions leads to the corresponding pure (Z)-α-fluorocinnamaldehydes in good yields. The reaction was extended to styrenes bearing electro-attracting or electro-donating groups. The obtained α-fluoroaldehydes were smoothly reduced to the corresponding (Z)-β-fluorocinnamic alcohol by NaBH(4). The reaction could be performed on functionalized substrates as demonstrated by the access to the glucoside of β-fluoroconiferyl alcohol, (Z)-β-fluoroconiferin, a strong inhibitor of lignin polymerization.

Abstract
Nakiterpiosin and nakiterpiosinone are two related C-nor-D-homosteroids isolated from the sponge Terpios hoshinota that show promise as anticancer agents. We have previously described the asymmetric synthesis and revision of the relative configuration of nakiterpiosin. We now provide detailed information on the stereochemical analysis that supports our structure revision and the synthesis of the originally proposed and revised nakiterpiosin. In addition, we herein describe a refined approach for the synthesis of nakiterpiosin, the first synthesis of nakiterpiosinone, and preliminary mechanistic studies of nakiterpiosin's action in mammalian cells. Cells treated with nakiterpiosin exhibit compromised formation of the primary cilium, an organelle that functions as an assembly point for components of the Hedgehog signal transduction pathway. We provide evidence that the biological effects exhibited by nakiterpiosin are mechanistically distinct from those of well-established antimitotic agents such as taxol. Nakiterpiosin may be useful as an anticancer agent in those tumors resistant to existing antimitotic agents and those dependent on Hedgehog pathway responses for growth.

Abstract
The catalytic hydrogenation of nitriles represents an atom-economic and valuable route to amines. In the present study, the ruthenium-catalyzed hydrogenation of various organic nitriles to give primary amines has been examined in detail. Straightforward ruthenium complexes modified by cheap and widely available triphenylphosphine allow for the efficient and general reduction of various aryl, alkyl, and heterocyclic nitriles. By using a practical in situ catalyst composed of [Ru(cod)(methylallyl(2))] and PPh(3), excellent yields and chemoselectivity were achieved. Moreover, the catalyst system displays broad functional group tolerance.
