Abstract
N-Trifluoroacetoxyquinuclidinium trifluoroacetate was prepared in situ from quinuclidine N-oxide and (CF3CO)2O. Except for some electron-poor substrates, this reagent allows for the high-yielding oxidative trifluoroacetoxylation of 1°, 2°, and 3° benzylic C-H bonds under photocatalytic conditions. The trifluoroacetoxylation of an ibuprofen methyl ester allowed the selective functionalization of a 2° benzylic C-H bond. For alkylbenzenes, hydrogen-atom transfer from a benzylic C-H bond to a quinuclidine cation radical was proposed to be the reaction-product-determining step.

Abstract
A series of new half-sandwich bis(alkyl) rare-earth metal complexes coordinated by a sterically demanding 1,3,6,8-tetra-tert-butyl-carbazol-9-yl ligand [tBu4Carb]La(CH2C6H5)2(THF) (1-La), [tBu4Carb]Ln(o-NMe2C6H4CH2)2 (Ln = Sc (2-Sc), Y (2-Y), La (2-La), [tBu4Carb]Ln(CH2SiMe3)2(THF) (Ln = Sc (3-Sc), Y (3-Y)), were synthesized. 1-La, 2-La, and 2-Y were prepared by an alkane elimination protocol, while 2-Sc, 3-Sc, and 3-Y became accessible only when salt metathesis reactions of tBu4CarbK with R2Ln(THF)n+[BPh4]- were employed. X-ray analysis revealed that in all complexes the carbazolyl ligand exhibits π-coordination with metal ions. 2-Sc and 3-Sc when activated with [Ph3C][B(C6F5)4] demonstrate excellent activity in α-olefin (octene-1, nonene-1, decene-1 and 1,1-diphenyl-but-1-ene) polymerization. When H2 was used as a chain transfer agent (1 bar, rt) in the presence of 3-Sc/[Ph3C][B(C6F5)4] or 2-Y, 2-La olefin hydrogenation occurred with quantitative conversion.

Abstract
The first palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling of various substituted benzyltitaniums with aryl triflates is presented for the synthesis of diarylmethanes in yields of up to 94% through highly selective C–O bond functionalization. The benzyltitaniums act as nucleophiles to realize the C(sp2)–C(sp3) cross-coupling with high efficiency in short reaction times. The reactions proceed at 60°C and show excellent functional groups tolerance.

Abstract
A variety of functionalized triarylmethane and 1,1-diarylalkane derivatives were prepared via a transition-metal-free, one-pot and two-step procedure, involving the reaction of various benzal diacetates with organozinc reagents. A sequential cross-coupling is enabled by changing the solvent from THF to toluene, and a two-step SN 1-type mechanism was proposed and evidenced by experimental studies. The synthetic utility of the method is further demonstrated by the synthesis of several biologically relevant molecules, such as an anti-tuberculosis agent, an anti-breast cancer agent, a precursor of a sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) receptor modulator, and a FLAP inhibitor.

Abstract
Design of C-H activation directing groups that can serve as electrophiles for subsequent cross-coupling significantly improves the step economy of synthetic applications of directed C-H functionalization. Through using a well-defined bifunctional template, palladium-catalyzed ortho-C-H alkenylation and arylation of benzylic alcohols was achieved via an end-on nitrile-embedded 12-membered macrocyclic transition state. Thereafter, the directing template is used as a handle for palladium-catalyzed ipso-C-O cross-coupling to provide functionalized diarylmethanes.

Abstract
Coupling reactions involving non-sulfonated C-O electrophiles provide a promising method for forming C-C bonds, but the incorporation of functionalized or secondary alkyl groups remains a challenge due to the requirement for well-defined alkylmetal species. In this study, we report a reductive nickel-catalyzed cross-coupling of benzyl oxalates with alkyl bromides, using oxalate as a new leaving group. A broad range of highly functionalized alkyl units (such as functional groups: alkyl chloride, alcohol, aldehyde, amine, amide, boronate ester, ether, ester, heterocycle, phosphonate, strained ring) were efficiently incorporated at the benzylic position. The utility of this synthetic method was further demonstrated by late-stage modification of complex bioactive compounds. Preliminary mechanistic experiments revealed that a radical process might be involved in the reaction.
