Abstract
Dearomatization approaches are attractive for their abilities to transform simple, planar arenes into complex, three-dimensional architectures. In particular, visible-light driven dearomatization strategies are significant because of their mild, green, and sustainable nature, enabling the fabrication of new chemical bonds via an electron transfer or energy transfer process. Indole compounds, being potentially bioactive and readily accessible, can be employed efficiently as building blocks for constructing diverse annulated frameworks under photocatalysis. Highly stereoselective radical cascade reactions of appropriate indole systems can provide complex cyclic scaffolds bearing multiple stereocenters. In fact, the past few years have witnessed the renaissance of dearomative cycloadditions of indoles via visible-light-induced photocatalysis. The present review highlights recent advances (2019-mid 2024) in visible-light-driven dearomative annulation of indoles leading to formation of polycyclic indolines, including angularly fused and spiro indolines. Most of the reactions described in this review are simple, providing quick access to the desired products. Additionally, characteristic reaction mechanisms are offered to provide an understand of how indole scaffolds show distinctive reactivity under photocatalytic conditions.

Abstract
Herein, we report the first general approach to access N-alkoxy-2,2-difluoro indoxyls, via formal 3 + 2 cycloaddition of aryne and (putative) fluorinated-aza-oxyallyl cation. This transition-metal/oxidant-free transformation occurs under mild reaction conditions with a short reaction time. Mechanistic investigation indicates the possible involvement of the closed form of fluorinated-aza-oxyallyl cation, viz., α-lactam, in the current transformation.

Abstract
An efficient method for the synthesis of five-membered chiral propargylic amines from 2-aryl-3H-indol-3-one and alkynylsilanes has been developed. The reaction proceeded under the catalytic system of PtCl4, oxazoline-based ligand L11, Zn(CF3COO)2, and AcOH in DCE at 95 °C via in situ desilylation of TMS-alkynes. This methodology also highlights a new protocol for the in situ desilylation of alkynylsilanes. The reaction showed a broad substrate scope with good yields and enantioselectivity.

Abstract
An efficient method for the first ene-reaction of 2-aryl-3H-indol-3-ones with allyltrimethylsilane has been developed for the first time. The reaction proceeded under the catalysis of Pd(OAc)2 and chiral phosphoric ligand L11 in the presence of Cu(CF3COO)2·XH2O, PivOH, and 5 Å molecular sieves in DMSO at 60 °C. The present methodology can avoid the impact of amine products generated by the reaction on the catalyst, and at the same time, the high catalytic activity of classical palladium catalysts still has catalytic ability for low electrophilic keto-imines. The desired products were furnished in excellent yields with good enantioselectivity.

Abstract
Herein, we disclose the highly enantioselective oxidative cross-coupling of 3-hydroxyindole esters with various nucleophilic partners as catalyzed by copper efflux oxidase. The biocatalytic transformation delivers functionalized 2,2-disubstituted indolin-3-ones with excellent optical purity (90-99 % ee), which exhibited anticancer activity against MCF-7 cell lines, as shown by preliminary biological evaluation. Mechanistic studies and molecular docking results suggest the formation of a phenoxyl radical and enantiocontrol facilitated by a suited enzyme chiral pocket. This study is significant with regard to expanding the catalytic repertoire of natural multicopper oxidases as well as enlarging the synthetic toolbox for sustainable asymmetric oxidative coupling.

Abstract
An unprecedented Pd-catalyzed asymmetric intramolecular cascade cyclization of aryl halides with readily available arylboronic acids proceeds through a Heck-type dearomative cyclization terminated with arylation in the presence of Pd2(dba)3 (10 mol %), Cu2O (5 mol %), and Cs2CO3 (2.0 equiv) in 1,2-dichloroethane (1.0 mL) at 100 °C for 15 h in air using BINOL-based phosphoramidite as the chiral ligand. This dearomative Heck protocol, which tolerates a broad variety of functional groups, is amenable to the generation of optically active indoline derivatives bearing all-carbon quaternary stereogenic centers in one step in moderate to excellent yields, with excellent diastereoselectivities (>20:1) and enantioselectivities (up to >99% ee). It is worth mentioning that no decrease in the enantiopurity of the indoline derivatives was observed during the synthetic transformations of the products.

Abstract
The pseudoindoxyl sub-structural motif, amongst the large set of the indole class of alkaloids, represents a unique subset of the oxygenated indole class of the alkaloid family. A majority of this class of natural products contains complex bridged/polycyclic scaffolds with interesting biological profiles. They are thus attractive synthetic targets. Starting from 1963, twenty-eight natural products having the pseudoindoxyl scaffold have been isolated, among which the synthesis of 13 natural products has been accomplished. In this review, we highlight the completed as well as the formal total synthesis of the natural products with a spiro-pseudoindoxyl ring, with a focus on their development. The challenges and the future perspective based on the recent developments in the field will also be discussed. We strongly believe that this review will not only update but also attract the attention of researchers in dealing with the synthesis of pseudoindoxyl compounds.

A novel iodine promoted cyclization of enaminone with aryl methyl ketones has been developed as a straightforward method for constructing 2-hydroxy-pyrrol-3(2H)-ones. This strategy affords structurally diverse 2-hydroxy-pyrrol-3(2H)-ones rings in high yields. Moreover, a quarternary alcohol has been constructed efficiently in the reaction. Product purification required only washing with CH2Cl2 solvent, thereby avoiding traditional chromatography and recrystallization, making this an example of group-assisted purification chemistry.

Abstract
A process for achieving photocatalyzed tri- and difluoromethylation/cyclizations for constructing a series of tri- or difluoromethylated indole[2,1-a]isoquinoline derivatives is described. This protocol utilized an inexpensive organic photoredox catalyst and provided good yields. Moreover, the combination of continuous flow and photochemistry, designed to provide researchers with a unique green process, was also shown to be key to allowing the reaction to proceed (product yield of 83% in flow vs 0% in batch).

Abstract
Herein, we described a ruthenium catalyzed oxidation and C–C bond formation reaction of 2-alkyl or 2-aryl substituted indoles using tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as oxidant. Coupled with cascade transformation, it provided a mild catalytic oxidation system for the synthesis of 2-indolylindolin-3-ones. The reaction could readily occur using RuCl3·3H2O as catalyst, and the target product was obtained with medium to high yield.

Abstract
An efficient and convenient protocol for the synthesis of a novel class of azepino fused diindoles from isatin tethered N-sulfonyl-1,2,3-triazoles and indoles has been disclosed. The reaction proceeds via denitrogenative aza-vinyl rhodium carbene formation to give a carbonyl ylide, which with indole results in 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition followed by sequential semipinacol rearrangement/ring expansion/oxidation to produce azepino fused diindoles. The reaction shows a broad substrate scope giving up to 81% yield. Furthermore, reversible catalytic hydrogenation and photophysical studies were carried out to demonstrate the application of these molecules.

Abstract
Aryl azides trap ortho-metallocarbene intermediates to generate indolenones possessing a reactive C-acylimine moiety, which can react with added indole nucleophiles to afford the 2-(3-indolyl)indolin-3-one scaffold found in the antiviral natural product isatisine A. This overall process occurs through a dual catalytic sequence at room temperature. Redox activation of the Cu(OTf)2 precatalyst by indole results in catalytically competent Cu(I) required for azide-metallocarbene coupling. The Brønsted acid that is also formed from Cu(OTf)2 reduction is responsible for catalysis of the C-C bond-forming indole addition step. This modular, procedurally simple method allows for rapid assembly of bis(indole) libraries, several of which proved to have anti-infective activity against respiratory syncytial virus and Zika virus.

Abstract
A method for combinative oxidative homo dimerization and cyanomethylation of free indole derivatives catalysed by TEMPO and Pd(OAc)2 was demonstrated for the first time. This new methodology is both atom and step efficient and is applicable to a broad scope of substrates, allowing the synthesis of a range of synthetically valuable 2-(2-(1H-indol-3-yl)-3-oxoindolin-2-yl)acetonitriles in moderate to excellent yields.

Abstract
Selective syntheses of leuconolam, leuconoxine, and mersicarpine alkaloids bearing distinctive core structures were achieved through Staudinger reactions using a common intermediate. In the key cyclization step, water functioned like a switch to control which core structure to produce. The chemistry allowed for selective syntheses of the group of alkaloids from a simple intermediate through straightforward chemical operations.

Abstract
A simple, convenient, and efficient synthesis of 2-(1H-indol-3-yl)-2,3′-biindolin-3-one derivatives has been developed by the oxidative trimeric reaction of indoles using the TEMPO/CuCl2 catalyst system under ambient air. This methodology provides an alternative approach for the direct generation of all-carbon quaternary centers at the C-2 position of indoles.
