Abstract
The exploration of main group compounds with multiple bonds has significantly enhanced our understanding of chemical bonding and expanded transition-metal-free bond activation and catalysis. Diborynes, characterized by a boron-boron triple bond (B≡B), represent a particularly challenging area due to boron's limited valence electrons. Here, we report the synthesis and characterization of a silylene-stabilized diboryne (7), expanding the frontier of diboryne stabilization. X-ray diffraction analysis and density functional theory calculations confirm the presence of a B≡B bond in the diboryne. Remarkably, this diboryne undergoes [1 + 2] cycloaddition reactions with dichlorosilylene and terphenyl isocyanide, producing unprecedented siladiborirene (8) and diborirenimine (9), respectively. X-ray diffraction studies show that 8 and 9 bear a three-membered boron-containing heterocycle with a B═B bond, and computational studies reveal their distinct aromatic character.

Abstract
Reported herein is a convenient and efficient method for one-pot, catalytic reductive amination, as well as the first multi-component tandem reductive amination-functionalization of bench-stable and readily available common carboxylic esters. This method is based on the cationic [Ir(COD)2]BArF-catalyzed chemoselective hydrosilylation of esters, followed by one-pot acid-mediated amination and nucleophilic addition. The reaction was conducted under mild conditions at a very low catalyst loading (0.1 mol % of Ir), which could be further reduced to 0.001 mol %, as demonstrated by a reaction at a 15 g scale. The method is highly versatile, allowing the use of esters with or without α-protons for the N-mono-alkylation of primary and secondary amines to produce diverse secondary and tertiary amines, as well as α-branched/functionalized amines. The method is highly chemoselective and tolerates a variety of functional groups such as bromo, trifluoromethyl, ester, and cyano groups. The value of the method was demonstrated by the one-step catalytic synthesis of two bio-relevant N-mono-methyl α-amino esters and the antiparkinsonian agent piribedil, as well as by the use of two shorter chain triglycerides as alkylating feedstock.

Abstract
Semi-reductive transformations of esters remain an underdeveloped but valuable class of functional group interconversions. Here, we describe the development of a highly selective method for the interconversion of esters to imines, enamines, aldehydes or amines through an amine-intercepted zirconocene hydride (ZrH)-catalyzed reduction. This protocol employs an inexpensive zirconium catalyst in combination with hydrosilanes and simple unprotected amines. A variety of aryl, benzylic, and aliphatic esters are directly transformed to imines and enamines in up to 99% yield or aldehydes in up to 84% yield, with little-to-no reduction to the corresponding alcohols. The utility of this method for the direct catalytic chemical upcycling of polyester plastic waste is demonstrated through multiple unprecedented depolymerization transformations. Further, the efficient preparation of nitrogen-containing products is also presented, including single-flask multicomponent reactions and the reductive amination of esters.

Abstract
The reactivity of carbonyl functional groups largely depends on the substituents on the carbon atom. Reversal of the commonly accepted order of reactivity of different carbonyl compounds requires novel synthetic approaches. Achieving selective reduction will enable the transformation of carbon resources such as plastic waste, carbon dioxide and biomass into valuable chemicals. In this Review, we explore the reduction of less reactive carbonyl groups in the presence of those typically considered more reactive. We discuss reductions, including the controlled reduction of ureas, amides and esters to aldehydes, as well as chemoselective reductions of carbonyl groups, including the reduction of ureas over carbamates, amides and esters; the reduction of amides over esters, ketones and aldehydes; and the reduction of ketones over aldehydes.

Abstract
Iron complexes bearing new silyl-NHC bidentate ligands were synthesised by treating Fe3(CO)12 with a mixture of N-(hydrosilyl)methyl imidazolium salts and a base. These complexes showed high performance in the catalytic double hydroboration of nitrile with pinacolborane (HBpin) to produce N,N-bis(boryl)amine by a combination of UV irradiation and mild heating (60 °C). The product yields for the hydroboration of aromatic and aliphatic nitriles reached 85%-95% (NMR) using an iron complex (5 mol%). Reducing the loading amount of the iron complex to 0.5 mol% still afforded the products in high yields. An analogous ruthenium complex, which was similarly synthesised using Ru3(CO)12, showed lower activity. Stoichiometric reactions of the iron complex with nitriles afforded Fe(0)-N-silylimine complexes, which may be dormant states in nitrile hydroboration. A catalytic mechanism including Fe(0) N-silylimine species is proposed.

Abstract
Starting from tetrakis(trimethylsilyl)cyclobutadiene and an amidinate-supported silylene of the Roesky-type, a sequence of addition and reduction cleanly gives the elusive silapyramidane via an isolable cyclobutene intermediate with an exocyclic Si═C bond. The silapyramidane features an unusually shielded 29Si NMR resonance at -448.3 ppm for the apex silicon atom. Treatment with Fe2(CO)9 results in the formation of the corresponding silapyramidane-iron complex. Silapyramidane also reacts with the cyclobutadiene starting material to cleanly afford a fluorescent spirobis(silole).

Abstract
The metal-free catalytic hydrogenolysis of silyl triflates and halides (I, Br) to hydrosilanes is unlocked by using arylborane Lewis acids as catalysts. In the presence of a nitrogen base, the catalyst acts as a Frustrated Lewis Pair (FLP) able to split H2 and generate a boron hydride intermediate capable of reducing (pseudo)halosilanes. This metal-free organocatalytic system is competitive with metal-based catalysts and enables the formation of a variety of hydrosilanes at room temperature in high yields (>85 %) under a low pressure of H2 (≤10 bar).

Abstract
Commercially available and inexpensive lithium tert-butoxide ( t BuOLi) acts as a good precatalyst for the hydroboration of esters, lactones, and epoxides using pinacolborane as a borylation agent. Functional groups such as cyano-, nitro-, amino-, vinyl, and alkynyl are unaffected under the presented hydroboration process, representing high chemoselectivity. This transformation has also been effectively applied to the synthesis of key intermediates of Erlotinib and Cinacalcet. Preliminary investigations of the mechanism show that the hydroboration proceeds through the in situ formed BH3 species.

Abstract
Synthesis and reactivity of disilicon(0) complexes are of fundamental and application importance. Herein, we report the development of an N-heterocyclic imino-substituted silylene (1), which has strong σ-donating ability and is significantly sterically hindered. The one-pot reaction of this silylene with [IPr→SiCl2 ] (IPr=1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-imidazol-2-ylidene) and KC8 (2 equiv) in THF at -30 °C leads to a silylene-ligated disilicon(0) complex (2), isolated as red crystals in 60 % yield. Characterization data and DFT calculations show that the trans-bent Si4 skeleton in 2 features a Si0 =Si0 double bond with significant π-π bonding and one lone pair of electrons on each of these two Si0 atoms. Complex 2 reacts readily with phenylacetylene, producing a structurally intriguing silatricyclic complex 6,8-diaza-1,2,5-trisilatricyclo-[3.2.1.02,7 ]-oct-3-ene (3), and revealing new aspects of low-valent silicon chemistry.

Abstract
Desymmetrization of easily available disubstituted malonic esters is a rewarding strategy to access structurally diverse quaternary stereocenters. Particularly, asymmetric reduction of malonic esters would generate a functional group with a lower oxidation state than the remaining ester, thus allowing for more chemoselective derivatization. Here, we report a new set of conditions for the zinc-catalyzed desymmetric hydrosilylation of malonic esters that afford aldehydes as the major product. Compared with alcohol-selective desymmetrization, the partial reduction uses a higher concentration of silanes and new pipecolinol-derived tetradentate ligands, proposedly to switch the pathway of zinc hemiacetal intermediates from elimination to silylation. As a result, high aldehyde-to-alcohol ratios and enantioselectivity of aldehydes are obtained from malonic esters with a large collection of substituents. Together with the abundant reactivity of aldehydes, the partial reduction has enabled an expeditious synthesis of bioactive compounds and natural metabolites containing a quaternary stereocenter.

Abstract
Carbon dioxide is an ideal raw material for the synthesis of complex organic compounds because of its rich, non-toxic, and good physical properties. It is of great significance to transform CO2 into valuable fine chemicals and develop a green sustainable cycle of carbon surplus. Based on hydrosilane as a reducing agent, this work summarizes the recent applications of reductive amidation of CO2 using different catalysts such as organocatalysts, ionic liquids (ILs), salts, transition metal complexes, and solvents. The main factors affecting the reductive amidation of CO2 and the possible reaction mechanism are discussed. Moreover, the future orientation and catalytic systems of the formylation of amines with CO2 and hydrosilane are prospected. This review depicts different types of catalyst systems developed for upgrading of amines and carbon dioxide into N-formylated products in the presence of hydrosilane, with attention on reaction mechanism and process optimization.![]()

Abstract
The selective reduction of esters to aldehydes, via the formation of stable alkyl silyl acetals, was, for the first time, achieved with both manganese, -Mn2(CO)10- and rhenium -Re2(CO)10- catalysts in the presence of triethylsilane as reductant. These two methods provide a direct access to a large variety of aliphatic and aromatic alkyl silyl acetals (30 examples) and to the corresponding aldehydes (13 examples) upon hydrolysis. The reactions proceeded in excellent yields and high selectivity at room temperature under photo-irradiation conditions (LED, 365 nm, 40 W, 9 h).

Abstract
Efficient and selective reduction of esters to aldehydes and alcohols is reported in which a simple cobalt pincer catalyst catalyses both transformations using diethylsilane as a reductant. Remarkably, the reaction selectivity is controlled by the stoichiometry of diethylsilane.

Abstract
Selective and efficient hydrosilylations of esters to alcohols by a well-defined manganese(I) complex with a commercially available bisphosphine ligand are described. These reactions are easy alternatives for stoichiometric hydride reduction or hydrogenation, and employing cheap, abundant, and nonprecious metal is attractive. The hydrosilylations were performed at 100 °C under solvent-free conditions with low catalyst loading. A large variety of aromatic, aliphatic, and cyclic esters bearing different functional groups were selectively converted into the corresponding alcohols in good yields.

Abstract
Although N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) have been known as ligands for organometallic complexes since the 1960s, these carbenes did not attract considerable attention until Arduengo et al. reported the isolation of a metal-free imidazol-2-ylidene in 1991. In 2001 Crabtree et al. reported a few complexes featuring an NHC isomer, namely an imidazol-5-ylidene, also termed abnormal NHC (aNHCs). In 2009, it was shown that providing to protect the C-2 position of an imidazolium salt, the deprotonation occurred at the C-5 position, affording imidazol-5-ylidenes that could be isolated. Over the last ten years, stable aNHCs have been used for designing a range of catalysts employing Pd(ii), Cu(i), Ni(ii), Fe(0), Zn(ii), Ag(i), and Au(i/iii) metal based precursors. These catalysts were utilized for different organic transformations such as the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction, C-H bond activation, dehydrogenative coupling, Huisgen 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition (click reaction), hydroheteroarylation, hydrosilylation reaction and migratory insertion of carbenes. Main-group metal complexes were also synthesized, including K(i), Al(iii), Zn(ii), Sn(ii), Ge(ii), and Si(ii/iv). Among them, K(i), Al(iii), and Zn(ii) complexes were used for the polymerization of caprolactone and rac-lactide at room temperature. In addition, based on the superior nucleophilicity of aNHCs, relative to that of their nNHCs isomers, they were used for small molecules activation, such as carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrous oxide (N2O), tetrahydrofuran (THF), tetrahydrothiophene and 9-borabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane (9BBN). aNHCs have also been shown to be efficient metal-free catalysts for ring opening polymerization of different cyclic esters at room temperature; they are among the most active metal-free catalysts for ε-caprolactone polymerization. Recently, aNHCs successfully accomplished the metal-free catalytic formylation of amides using CO2 and the catalytic reduction of carbon dioxide, including atmospheric CO2, into methanol, under ambient conditions. Although other transition metal complexes featuring aNHCs as ligand have been prepared and used in catalysis, this review article summarize the results obtained with the isolated aNHCs.

Three-Coordinate Iron(0) Complexes with N-Heterocyclic Carbene and Vinyltrimethylsilane Ligation: Synthesis, Characterization, and Ligand Substitution Reactions. Inorg Chem 2019; 58:13129-13141. Abstract
Low-coordinate iron(0) species are implicated as intermediates in a range of iron-catalyzed organic transformations. Isolable iron(0) complexes with coordination numbers of less than four, however, are rarely known. In continuing with our interests in three-coordinate iron(0) complexes with N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) and alkene ligation, we report herein the synthesis and ligand substitution reactivity of three-coordinate iron(0) complexes featuring monodentate alkene ligands, [(NHC)Fe(η2-vtms)2] (vtms = vinyltrimethylsilane, NHC = 1,3-bis(2',6'-diisopropylphenyl)-imidazol-2-ylidene (IPr), 1; 1,3-bis(2',6'-diisopropylphenyl)-4,5-tetramethylene-imidazol-2-ylidene (cyIPr), 2; 1,3-bis(2',6'-diisopropylphenyl)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1,3-diazepin-2-ylidene (7-IPr), 3). Complexes 1-3 were synthesized from the one-pot reactions of ferrous dihalides with the N-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-substituted NHC ligands, vtms, and KC8. Reactivity study of 1 revealed its facile ligand substitution reactions with terminal aryl alkynes, ketones, isocyanides, and CO, by which iron(0) complexes [(IPr)Fe(η2-HCCAr)] (Ar = Ph, 5; p-CH3C6H4, 6; 3,5-(CF3)2C6H3, 7), [(IPr)Fe(η2-OCPh2)2] (8), [(IPr)Fe(CNR)4] (R = 2,6-Me2C6H3, 9; But, 10), and (IPr)Fe(CO)4 (11) were prepared in good yields. These iron(0) complexes have been characterized by 1H NMR, solution magnetic susceptibility measurement, single-crystal X-ray diffraction study, 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. Characterization data and computational studies suggest S = 1 ground-spin states for three-coordinate iron(0) complexes 1-3 and 5-8 and S = 0 ground states for 9-11. Theoretical studies on the three-coordinate complexes 1, 6, and 8 indicated pronounced metal-to-ligand backdonation from occupied Fe 3d orbitals to the π* orbitals of the C═C, C≡C, and C═O moieties of the π ligands. In addition, 1 proved an effective precatalyst for the cyclotrimerization reaction of alkynes.

Abstract
The catalytic reductive transformation of carboxylic esters into α-branched ethers is described. The procedure pivots on the chemoselective iridium-catalyzed hydrosilylation of ester and lactone functionality to afford a silyl acetal intermediate. Upon treatment with a Lewis acid, these hemilabile intermediates dissociate to form reactive oxocarbenium ions, which can be intercepted by allyltributyltin nucleophiles, resulting in the formation of valuable α-branched alkyl-alkyl ether derivatives. This reductive allylation procedure was found to be amenable to a range of carboxylic ester starting materials, and good chemoselectivity for ethyl over tert-butyl esters was demonstrated. Furthermore, downstream synthetic manipulation of α-amino acid-derived products led to the efficient formation of pyrrolidine, piperidine, and azepane frameworks.

Abstract
An efficient method for the reductive amination of carbonyl derivatives with ω-amino fatty acids catalysed by an iron complex Fe(CO)4 (IMes) [IMes=1,3-bis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene] by means of hydrosilylation was developed. A variety of pyrrolidines, piperidines and azepanes were selectively synthesised in moderate-to-excellent yields (36 examples, 47-97 % isolated yield) with a good functional group tolerance.

Abstract
The reductive Ireland-Claisen rearrangement through borane-mediated hydrosilylation is reported. The method employs a borane catalyst with a special structural design and affords access to synthetically relevant products with high diastereoselectivity. Depending on electronic and structural parameters, the reaction can be coupled with a 1,3-allylic shift, thus the valence isomer of the Ireland-Claisen product is formed.
