Abstract
Selective dehydrogenative silylation is one of the most valuable tools for synthesizing organosilicon compounds. In this study, a regio- and stereoselective ruthenium-catalyzed dehydrogenative intermolecular silylation was firstly developed to access (E)-alkenyl silyl-ether derivatives and silyl-ether heterocycles with good functional group tolerance. Furthermore, two pathways for RuH2(CO)(PPh3)3/NBE-catalyzed dehydrogenative intermolecular silylation of alcohols and alkenes as well as intermolecular silylation of naphthol derivatives were investigated with H2SiEt2 as the hydrosilane reagent.

Abstract
Siloxanes and silanols containing Si-H units are important building blocks for the synthesis of functionalized siloxane materials, and their synthesis is a current challenge. Herein, we report the selective synthesis of hydrosilanols, hydrosiloxanes, and silanodiols depending on the nature of the catalysts and the silane used. Two neutral ({MCl[SiMe2(o-C6H4PPh2)]2}; M = Rh, Ir) and two cationic ({M[SiMe2(o-C6H4PPh2)]2(NCMe)}[BArF4]; M = Rh, Ir) have been synthesized and their catalytic behavior toward hydrolysis of secondary silanes has been described. Using the iridium complexes as precatalysts and diphenylsilane as a substrate, the product obtained is diphenylsilanediol. When rhodium complexes are used as precatalysts, it is possible to selectively obtain silanediol, hydrosilanol, and hydrosiloxane depending on the catalysts (neutral or cationic) and the silane substituents.

Abstract
An efficient copper-catalyzed cascade difunctionalization of N-allyl anilines toward the synthesis of silylated indolines using commercially available silanes has been reported. This strategy provides a new avenue for the synthesis of a diverse array of indolines in reasonable yields. Preliminary mechanistic investigations indicate that the reaction probably proceeds via a radical pathway with unactivated alkenes as radical acceptors and simple silanes as radical precursors. This protocol is distinguished by its atom economy, broad substrate scope and readily available starting materials.

Abstract

We report on an additive-free
Mn(I)-catalyzed dehydrogenative silylation
of terminal alkenes. The most active precatalyst is the bench-stable
alkyl bisphosphine Mn(I) complex fac-[Mn(dippe)(CO)3(CH2CH2CH3)]. The catalytic
process is initiated by migratory insertion of a CO ligand into the
Mn–alkyl bond to yield an acyl intermediate which undergoes
rapid Si–H bond cleavage of the silane HSiR3 forming
the active 16e– Mn(I) silyl catalyst [Mn(dippe)(CO)2(SiR3)] together with liberated butanal. A broad
variety of aromatic and aliphatic alkenes was efficiently and selectively
converted into E-vinylsilanes and allylsilanes, respectively,
at room temperature. Mechanistic insights are provided based on experimental
data and DFT calculations revealing that two parallel reaction pathways
are operative: an acceptorless reaction pathway involving dihydrogen
release and a pathway requiring an alkene as sacrificial hydrogen
acceptor.

Abstract
Quinoline is a versatile heterocycle that is part of numerous natural products and countless drugs. During the last decades, this scaffold also became widely used as ligand in organometallic catalysis. Therefore, access to functionalized quinolines is of great importance and continuous efforts have been made to develop efficient and regioselective synthetic methods. In this regard, C-H functionalization through transition metal catalysis, which is nowadays the Graal of organic green chemistry, represents the most attractive strategy. We aim herein at providing a comprehensive review of methods that allow site-selective metal-catalyzed C-H functionalization of quinolines, or their quinoline N-oxides counterparts, with a specific focus on their scope and limitations, as well as mechanistic aspects if that accounts for the selectivity.

Abstract
Metal-catalyzed trans-1,2-hydrosilylations and hydroborations of terminal alkynes that generate synthetically valuable (Z)-alkenylsilanes and (Z)-alkenylboranes remain challenging due to the (E)-selective nature of the reactions and the formation of the thermodynamically unfavorable (Z)-isomer. The development of new, efficient catalytic systems for the (Z)-selective hydrosilylation and hydroboration of terminal alkynes is thus highly desirable from a fundamental perspective as it would deepen our understanding of the metal-catalyzed (Z)-selective hydrosilylation and hydroboration of terminal alkynes. This personal account describes our research for developing a ruthenium complex that can efficiently catalyze the hydrosilylation and hydroboration of terminal alkynes, and for exploring the factors controlling (Z)-selectivity of the reactions. Our effort into the activation of B-protected boronic acids, R-B(dan) (dan=naphthalene-1,8-diaminato), that was believed not to participate in Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling, is also discussed.

Abstract
Transition-metal-catalysed, redox-neutral dehydrosilylation of alkenes is a long-standing challenge in organic synthesis, with current methods suffering from low selectivity and narrow scope. In this study, we report a general and simple method for the manganese-catalysed dehydrosilylation and hydrosilylation of alkenes, with Mn2(CO)10 as a catalyst precursor, by using a ligand-tuned metalloradical reactivity strategy. This enables versatility and controllable selectivity with a 1:1 ratio of alkenes and silanes, and the synthetic robustness and practicality of this method are demonstrated using complex alkenes and light olefins. The selectivity of the reaction has been studied using density functional theory calculations, showing the use of an iPrPNP ligand to favour dehydrosilylation, while a JackiePhos ligand favours hydrosilylation. The reaction is redox-neutral and atom-economical, exhibits a broad substrate scope and excellent functional group tolerance, and is suitable for various synthetic applications on a gram scale.

Abstract
Herein, a facile and efficient synthetic route to unique hybrid materials containing polysiloxanes and mono(alkyl)silsesquioxanes as their pendant modifiers (T8@PS) was demonstrated. The idea of this work was to apply the hydrosilylation reaction as a tool for the efficient and selective attachment of mono(alkenyl)substituted silsesquioxanes (differing in the alkenyl chain length, from -vinyl to -dec-9-enyl and types of inert groups iBu, Ph at the inorganic core) onto two polysiloxanes containing various amount of Si-H units. The synthetic protocol, determined and confirmed by FT-IR in situ and NMR analyses, was optimized to ensure complete Si-H consumption along with the avoidance of side-products. A series of 20 new compounds with high yields and complete β-addition selectivity was obtained and characterized by spectroscopic methods.

Abstract
A cyclization cascade initiated by the addition of a silyl radical to an electron-deficient carbon-carbon double bond of N-arylacrylamides, followed by intramolecular cyano group insertion and homolytic aromatic substitution has been reported. In the presence of di-lauroyl peroxide (LPO), under metal-free conditions, several readily available hydrosilanes were successfully used as the source of silyl radicals and a series of silyl functionalized 4H-pyrido[4,3,2-gh]phenanthridin-5(6H)-ones were obtained in moderate to good yields.

Abstract
An efficient and convenient palladium-catalyzed direct intermolecular silylation of C(sp2)-H bonds by using disilanes as the silicon source with the assistance of a readily removable bidentate directing group is reported. This strategy provided a regio- and stereoselective protocol for exclusive synthesis of Z-vinylsilanes with reasonable to excellent yields and good functional group compatibility. Silylation of the isolated palladacycle intermediate revealed the Z-stereoselective pathway. Moreover, the practicality and effectiveness of this method were illustrated by a gram-scale experiment and further functionalization of the silylation product.

Abstract
Development of regio- and stereoselective dehydrogenative silylation and hydrosilylation of vinylarenes with alkoxysilanes, catalyzed by ruthenium alkylidenes, is described. Varying L- and X-type ligands on ruthenium alkylidenes permits selective access to either (E)-vinylsilanes or β-alkylsilanes with high regio- and stereocontrol. cis,cis-1,5-Cyclooctadiene was identified as the most effective sacrificial hydrogen acceptor for the dehydrogenative silylation of vinylarenes, which allows use of a nearly equimolar ratio of alkenes and silanes.

Abstract
This Perspective presents the fundamental principles, the elementary reactions, the initial catalytic systems, and the contemporary catalysts that have converted C-H bond functionalization from a curiosity to a reality for synthetic chemists. Many classes of elementary reactions involving transition-metal complexes cleave C-H bonds at typically unreactive positions. These reactions, coupled with a separate or simultaneous functionalization process lead to products containing new C-C, C-N, and C-O bonds. Such reactions were initially studied for the conversion of light alkanes to liquid products, but they have been used (and commercialized in some cases) most often for the synthesis of the more complex structures of natural products, medicinally active compounds, and aromatic materials. Such a change in direction of research in C-H bond functionalization is remarkable because the reactions must occur at an unactivated C-H bond over functional groups that are more reactive than the C-H bond toward classical reagents. The scope of reactions that form C-C bonds or install functionality at an unactivated C-H bond will be presented, and the potential future utility of these reactions will be discussed.

Abstract
The transition metal-catalyzed cross-coupling of organometallic nucleophiles derived from tin, boron, and zinc with organic electrophiles enjoys a preeminent status among modern synthetic methods for the formation of carbon-carbon bonds. In recent years, organosilanes have emerged as viable alternatives to the conventional reagents, with the added benefits of low cost, low toxicity and high chemical stability. However, silicon-based cross-coupling reactions often require heating in the presence of a fluoride source, which has significantly hampered their widespread acceptance. To address the "fluoride problem", a new paradigm for palladium-catalyzed, silicon-based cross-coupling reactions has been developed that employs a heretofore underutilized class of silicon reagents, the organosilanols. The use of organosilanols, either in the presence of Brønsted bases or as their silanolate salts, represents an operationally simple and mild alternative to the fluoride-based activation method. Organosilanols are readily available by many well-established methods for introducing carbon-silicon bonds onto alkenes, alkynes, arenes and heteroarenes. Moreover, several different protocols for the generation of alkali metal salts of, vinyl-, alkenyl-, alkynyl-, aryl-, and heteroarylsilanolates have been developed and the advantages of each of these methods have been demonstrated for a number of different coupling classes. This review will describe the development and implementation of cross-coupling reactions of organosilanols and their conjugate bases, silanolates, with a wide variety of substrate classes. In addition, application of these transformations in the total synthesis of complex natural products will also be highlighted. Finally, the unique advantages of organosilicon coupling strategies vis a vis organoboron reagents are discussed.

Abstract
A method for the iridium-catalyzed silylation of aryl C-H bonds is described. The reaction of HSiMe(OSiMe3)2 with arenes and heteroarenes catalyzed by the combination of [Ir(cod)(OMe)]2 and 2,4,7-trimethylphenanthroline occurs with the aromatic compound as the limiting reagent and with high levels of sterically derived regioselectivity. This new catalytic system occurs with a much higher tolerance for functional groups than the previously reported rhodium-catalyzed silylation of aryl C-H bonds and occurs with a wide range of heteroarenes. The silylarene products are suitable for further transformations, such as oxidation, halogenation, and cross-coupling. Late-stage functionalization of complex pharmaceutical compounds was demonstrated.

Abstract
The aryl-substituted bis(imino)pyridine cobalt methyl complex, ((Mes)PDI)CoCH3 ((Mes)PDI = 2,6-(2,4,6-Me3C6H2-N═CMe)2C5H3N), promotes the catalytic dehydrogenative silylation of linear α-olefins to selectively form the corresponding allylsilanes with commercially relevant tertiary silanes such as (Me3SiO)2MeSiH and (EtO)3SiH. Dehydrogenative silylation of internal olefins such as cis- and trans-4-octene also exclusively produces the allylsilane with the silicon located at the terminus of the hydrocarbon chain, resulting in a highly selective base-metal-catalyzed method for the remote functionalization of C-H bonds with retention of unsaturation. The cobalt-catalyzed reactions also enable inexpensive α-olefins to serve as functional equivalents of the more valuable α, ω-dienes and offer a unique method for the cross-linking of silicone fluids with well-defined carbon spacers. Stoichiometric experiments and deuterium labeling studies support activation of the cobalt alkyl precursor to form a putative cobalt silyl, which undergoes 2,1-insertion of the alkene followed by selective β-hydrogen elimination from the carbon distal from the large tertiary silyl group and accounts for the observed selectivity for allylsilane formation.

Abstract

Using
rational ligand design, we have developed of a second-generation
ligand, bis(3,5-di-tert-butylphenyl)(tert-butyl)phosphine, for the preparation of allylsilanes using the palladium-catalyzed
silyl-Heck reaction. This new ligand provides nearly complete suppression
of starting material alkene isomerization that was observed with our
first-generation catalyst, providing vastly improved yields of allylsilanes
from simple alkene starting materials. The studies quantifying the
electronic and steric properties of the new ligand are described.
Finally, we report an X-ray crystal structure of a palladium complex
resulting from the oxidative addition of Me3SiI using an
analogous ligand that provides significant insight into the nature
of the catalytic system.

Abstract
Regioselective C-H functionalization of arenes has widespread applications in synthetic chemistry. The regioselectivity of these reactions is often controlled by directing groups or steric hindrance ortho to a potential reaction site. Here, we report a catalytic intermolecular C-H silylation of unactivated arenes that manifests very high regioselectivity through steric effects of substituents meta to a potential site of reactivity. The silyl moiety can be further functionalized under mild conditions but is also inert toward many common organic transformations, rendering the silylarene products useful building blocks. The remote steric effect that we observe results from the steric properties of both the rhodium catalyst and the silane.
