Abstract
A dinuclear gold(I) complex featuring a strongly donating bis-N-heterocyclic imine ligand was synthesised and characterised by different methods, including single crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD) analysis. The compound has been tested for its antiproliferative effects in a panel of human cancer cell lines in vitro, showing highly selective anticancer effects, particularly against human A549 non-small cell lung cancer cells (NSCLC), with respect to non-tumorigenic cells (VERO). The accumulation of the compound in A549 and VERO cells was studied by high-resolution continuum source atomic absorption spectrometry (HRCS-AAS), revealing that the anticancer effects are not particularly related to the different amounts of gold taken up by the cells over 72 h. Enzyme inhibition studies to evaluate the activity of the seleno-enzyme thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) in cancer cell extracts show that the gold(I) compound is a potent inhibitor (IC50=0.567±0.208 μM), while the free ligand is ineffective. This result correlates with the observed compound's selectivity towards A549 cells overexpressing the enzyme.

Abstract
We present the synthesis, structural characterization, and reactivity of alkylideneborane 2, supported by π-donating N-heterocyclic imino and σ-donating N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands. The incorporation of these ligands effectively weakens the B═C bond strength, leading to enhanced reactivity. Consequently, selective cleavage of the B═C bond can be achieved using pyridine-N-oxide, sulfur, and selenium, resulting in the formation of 1,3-dioxa-2,4-diboretane 3, thioxoborane 4, and selenoborane 5, respectively. Furthermore, intriguing B═C bond insertions with CO2 and CS2 are observed, affording zwitterionic borenium/fluorenide 6 and dithiaboretane 7. The former species 6 is readily converted to transient oxoborane and imidazolium enolate, showcasing the bora-Wittig reaction of alkylideneborane. This investigation highlights the potential of alkylideneborane as a versatile building block for synthesizing novel organoboron compounds through unconventional transformations.

Abstract
A novel nontransient acyclic iminosilylene (1), bearing a bulky super silyl group (-SitBu3) and N-heterocyclic imine ligand with a methylated backbone, was prepared and isolated. The methylated backbone is the feature of 1 that distinguishes it from the previously reported nonisolable iminosilylenes, as it prevents the intramolecular silylene center insertion into an aromatic C-C bond of an aryl substituent. Instead, 1 exhibits an intermolecular Büchner-ring-expansion-type reactivity; the silylene is capable of dearomatization of benzene and its derivatives, giving the corresponding silicon analogs of cycloheptatrienes, i.e. silepins, featuring seven-membered SiC6 rings with nearly planar geometry. The ring expansion reactions of 1 with benzene and 1,4-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzene are reversible. Similar reactions of 1 with N-heteroarenes (pyridine and DMAP) proceed more rapidly and irreversibly forming the corresponding azasilepins, also with nearly planar seven-membered SiNC5 rings. DFT calculations reveal an ambiphilic nature of 1 that allows the intermolecular aromatic C-C bond insertion to occur. Additional computational studies, which elucidate the inherent reactivity of 1, the role of the substituent effect, and reaction mechanisms behind the ring expansion transformations, are presented.

B ← IPr2Me2][AlBr4] (3+[AlBr4]−) (Mes* = 2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenyl and IPr2Me2 = 1,3-diisopropyl-4,5-dimethylimidazol-2-ylidene) has been synthesized and characterized. The employment of an aryl group and N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand enables 3+[AlBr4]− to exhibit both B-centered Lewis acidity and BN multiple bond reactivities, thus allowing for the construction of tri-coordinate boron cations 5+–12+. More importantly, initial reactions involving coordination, addition, and [2 + 3] cycloadditions have been observed for the cationic iminoborane, demonstrating the potential to build numerous organoboron species via several synthetic routes. An NHC-stabilized aryliminoboryl cation exhibits both boron-centered Lewis acidity and multiple bond reactivity and could be utilized as an effective synthon for unusual cationic boron species.![]()

Abstract
Two new bidentate ferrocene-bridged bis(N-heterocyclic carbene-phospinidenes) (bisNHCPs) were successfully isolated by treating 1,1'-bis-(dichlorophosphine)ferrocene with N-heterocyclic carbenes, followed by dechlorination using sodium naphthalenide. The bisNHCPs were used in complexation of various Sn(II) halides and Sn(II) bistriflate (SnX2 with X = Cl, Br, I, OTf). Transmetalation to a CuCl complex and Sn(II) transfer to a bisimine was performed to investigate the stannyliumylidenes' reactivity.

Abstract
The facile synthesis of the first bis-N-heterocyclic imine-stabilized chlorosilyliumylidene 1 is reported. Remarkably, consecutive reaction of 1 with PPh3 AuCl and K2 Fe(CO)4 gives rise to the unique heterobimetallic complex 1,2-(Mes NHI)2 -C2 H4 -ClSiAuFe(CO)4 (4). The overall neutral complex 4 bears an unusual linear Si-Au-Fe structure and a rare anagostic interaction between the d10 -configured gold atom and a CH bond of the mesityl ligand. According to the computational analysis and 57 Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy, the formal Fe-oxidation state remains at -II. Thus, the electronic structure of 4 is best described as an overall neutral-yet zwitterionic-heterobimetallic "Si(II)+ -Au(I)+ -Fe(-II)2- "-silyliumylidene complex, derived from double anion exchange. The computational analysis indicates strong hyperconjugative back donation from the gold(I) atom to the silyliumylidene ligand.

Abstract
The isolable anionic oxoborane 3 and thioxoborane 4 have been assembled using a 1,2-bis(imino)acenaphthene ligand (Dip-BIAN). Structural characterization and DFT calculations confirmed that two compounds contain terminal doubly bonded B[double bond, length as m-dash]E (E = O, S) groups, respectively, in which only the B[double bond, length as m-dash]O group is associated with imidazolium via a hydrogen bond.

Abstract
Boron reluctantly forms B=X (X=O, S, Se, Te) moieties, which has stimulated the quest for such species in the past few years. Based on the N,N'-chelating β-diketiminato ligand (HNacNac), a new amido imidazoline-2-imine ligand system (HAmIm) is presented, giving rise to the isolation of an exhaustive series of Lewis acid free, monomeric chalcogen B=X boranes with documented π-bond character between boron and the chalcogen. The chalcogenoboranes are isoelectronic and isolobal to the respective ketones. The chemical behavior of the oxoborane (B=O) strongly resembles the classical carbonyl reactivity in C=O bonds. The improved stability provided by HAmIm arises from the formation of more-stable five-membered boron chelates versus the six-membered NacNac analogues and from the imidazoline-2-imine moiety providing enhanced σ- and π-donation. The HAmIm ligand class may supersede the widely employed NacNac system in certain applications.

Abstract
Incorporation of cationic boron atoms into molecular frameworks is an established strategy for creating chemical species with unusual bonding and reactivity but is rarely thought of as a way of enhancing molecular optoelectronic properties. Using boron formazanate dyes as examples, we demonstrate that the wavelengths, intensities, and type of the first electronic transitions in BN heterocycles can be modulated by varying the charge, coordination number, and supporting ligands at the cationic boron atom. UV-vis absorption spectroscopy measurements and density-functional (DFT) calculations show that these modulations are caused by changes in the geometry and extent of π-conjugation of the boron formazanate ring. These findings suggest a new strategy for designing optoelectronic materials based on π-conjugated heterocycles containing boron and other main-group elements.

Abstract
Insertion of sulfur into the B-H bond of the BH borenium salt [IMes(C6F5)BH]+ followed by deprotonation gave the thioxoborane IMes(C6F5)B═S. Subsequent treatment with additional sulfur gave the corresponding boron persulfide, a NHC-stabilized boradithiirane. The B═S compound reacted with carbon dioxide in the presence of the lithium salt Li[B(C6F5)4] by formal [2+2] cycloaddition to give a boron thiocarbonate-type product. The boron persulfide formally inserted phenyl acetylene into the B-S bond in the presence of Li[B(C6F5)4] to give the respective five-membered heterocycle.

Abstract
Boragermene 3 featuring a double bond between the Ge and dicoordinate B atoms has been synthesized for the first time by reacting the cyclic (alkyl)(boryl)germylene-PMe3 adduct 1 with Cl2 BN(SiMe3 )2 followed by reductive dehalogenation with KC8 . Addition of a Lewis base (Me NHC) to 3 leads to the formation of the corresponding adduct 4, which shows double bond character between the Ge and tricoordinate B atoms. Compound 3 undergoes hydrogenation with H2 concomitant with a complete scission of the Ge=B bond.

Abstract
The previously reported dimeric NHI aluminum dihydrides 1 a,b, as well as the bis(NHI) aluminum dihydride salt 9 +[OTs]-, the bis(NHI) boron dihydride salt 10 +[OTs]-, and the "free" bis(NHI) ligand 12 were investigated with regard to their activity as a homogenous (pre)catalyst in the hydroboration (i. e. catalytic reduction) of carbon dioxide (CO2) in chloroform under mild conditions (i. e. room temperature, 1 atm; NHI=N-heterocyclic imine, Ts=tosyl). Borane dimethylsulfide complex and catecholborane were used as a hydride source. Surprisingly, the less sterically hindered 1 a exhibited lower catalytic activity than the bulkier 1 b. A similarly unexpected discrepancy was found with the lower catalytic activity of 10 + in comparison to the one of the bis(NHI) 12. The latter is incorporated as the ligand to the boron center in 10 +. To elucidate possible mechanisms for CO2 reduction the compounds were subjected to stoichiometric reactivity studies with the borane or CO2. Aluminum carboxylates 4, 6, and 7 + with two, four, and one formate group per two aluminum centers were isolated. Also, the boron formate salt 11 +[OTs]- was characterized. Selected metal formates were subjected to stoichiometric reactions with boranes and/or tested as a catalyst. We conclude that each type of catalyst (1 a,b, 9 +, 10 +, 12) follows an individual mechanistic pathway for CO2 reduction.

Abstract
We disclose the synthesis and structural characterization of the first acid-free anionic oxoborane, [K(2.2.2-crypt)][(HCDippN)2BO] (1) (Dipp = 2,6- iPr2C6H3), which is isoelectronic with classical carbonyl compounds. 1 can readily be accessed from its borinic acid by a simple deprotonation/sequestration sequence. Crystallographic and density functional theory (DFT) analyses support the presence of a polarized terminal B═O double bond. Subsequent π bond metathesis converts the B═O bond to a heavier B═S containing system, affording the first anionic thioxoborane [K(2.2.2-crypt)][(HCDippN)2BS] (2), isoelectronic with thiocarbonyls. Facile B═O bond cleavage can also be achieved to access B-H and B-Cl bonds and, via a remarkable oxide (O2-) ion abstraction, to generate a borenium cation [(HCDippN)2B(NC5H5)][OTf] (4). By extension, 1 can act as an oxide transfer agent to organic substrates, a synthetic role traditionally associated with transition-metal compounds. Hence we show that B-O linkages, which are often considered to be thermodynamic sinks, can be activated under mild conditions toward bond cleavage and transfer, by exploiting the higher reactivity inherent in the B═O double bond.

Abstract
N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHC) are nowadays ubiquitous and indispensable in many research fields, and it is not possible to imagine modern transition metal and main group element chemistry without the plethora of available NHCs with tailor-made electronic and steric properties. While their suitability to act as strong ligands toward transition metals has led to numerous applications of NHC complexes in homogeneous catalysis, their strong σ-donating and adaptable π-accepting abilities have also contributed to an impressive vitalization of main group chemistry with the isolation and characterization of NHC adducts of almost any element. Formally, NHC coordination to Lewis acids affords a transfer of nucleophilicity from the carbene carbon atom to the attached exocyclic moiety, and low-valent and low-coordinate adducts of the p-block elements with available lone pairs and/or polarized carbon-element π-bonds are able to act themselves as Lewis basic donor ligands toward transition metals. Accordingly, the availability of a large number of novel NHC adducts has not only produced new varieties of already existing ligand classes but has also allowed establishment of numerous complexes with unusual and often unprecedented element-metal bonds. This review aims at summarizing this development comprehensively and covers the usage of N-heterocyclic carbene adducts of the p-block elements as ligands in transition metal chemistry.

Abstract
Introduced here is a new type of strongly donating N-heterocyclic boryloxy (NHBO) ligand, [(HCDippN)2 BO]- (Dipp=2,6-diisopropylphenyl), which is isoelectronic with the well-known N-heterocyclic iminato (NHI) donor class. This 1,3,2-diazaborole functionalized oxy ligand has been used to stabilize the first acyclic two-coordinate dioxysilylene and its Ge, Sn, and Pb congeners, thereby presenting the first complete series of heavier group 14 dioxycarbene analogues. All four compounds have been characterized by X-ray crystallography and density-functional theory, enabling analysis of periodic trends: the potential for the [(HCDippN)2 BO]- ligand to subtly vary its electronic-donor capabilities is revealed by snapshots showing the gradual evolution of arene π coordination on going from Si to Pb.

Abstract
The discovery of cycloosmathioborane compounds is reported. These species, which are prepared by the simultaneous dehydrogenation of a trihydride hydrogensulfide osmium(IV) complex and a BH3NHR2 amine-borane, bear an Os-S-B three-membered ring, being a manifestation of the 4 n + 2 Hückel aromaticity in which n = 0 and where the two π electrons of the ring are provided by the S atom.

Abstract
Carbonyl cations are among the most commonly invoked reactive intermediates in organic synthesis. While Olah pioneered superacids to provide a "stable ion" environment for their study in situ, isolated examples are rare. Here, we disclose successive protonation of an N-heterocyclic imine (NHI) derived carbonyl compound (IDippN)2 CO, 2, to the monocation [(IDippN)(IDippNH) CO]+ , [3]+ , and the doubly protonated dication [(IDippNH)2 CO]2+ , [4]2+ . [3]+ represents a rare example of an N-protonated carbonyl cation and [4]2+ the first example of a superelectrophilic carbonyl dication. All three compounds have been characterized by X-ray crystallography and IR spectroscopy, revealing stepwise strengthening of the C=O bond on protonation. The unique stability of these systems is attributed to the enhanced basicity and steric profile provided by the NHI substituents. In addition, we report the related singly NHI-stabilized cation [IDippNCO]+ , [5]+ . Crystallographic and DFT analyses provide insight into the interaction between the carbonyl fragment and the NHI, which reveals that the [CNCO]+ unit (isoelectronic to CCCO) can be described as an acylium cation "masked" as a cumulene.

Abstract
Boron and aluminum are lighter Group 13 elements, found in daily life commodities, and considered environmentally benign. Nevertheless, they markedly differ in their elemental properties (e.g., metal character, atomic radius). The use of Lewis acidic complexes of boron and aluminum for methods of bond activation and catalysis (e.g., hydrogenation of unsaturated substrates, polymerization of olefins and epoxides) is quickly expanding. The introduction of cationic charge may boost the metalloid-centered Lewis acidity and allow for its fine-tuning particularly with regard to preference for "hard" or "soft" Lewis bases (i.e., substrates). Especially the isolation of low-coordinate cations (number of ligand atoms smaller than four) demands elaborate techniques of thermodynamic and kinetic stabilization (i.e., electronic saturation and steric shielding) by a ligand system. Furthermore, the properties of the solvent and the counteranion must be considered with care. Here, selected examples of boron and aluminum cations are described.

Abstract
Obtaining rational control over the structure and nuclearity of metalloclusters is an ongoing challenge in synthetic Fe-S cluster chemistry. We report a new family of tridentate imidazolin-2-imine ligands L(NImR)3 that can bind [Fe4S4]2+ or [Fe6S6]3+ clusters, depending on the steric profile of the ligand and the reaction stoichiometry. A high-yielding synthetic route to L(NImR)3 ligands (where R is the imidazolyl N substituents) from trianiline and 2-chloroimidazolium precursors is described. For L(NImMe)3 (tris(1,3,5-(3-( N, N-dimethyl-4,5-diphenylimidazolin-2-imino)phenylmethyl))benzene), metalation with 1 equiv of [Ph4P]2[Fe4S4Cl4] and 3 equiv of NaBPh4 furnishes a mixture of products, but adjusting the stoichiometry to 1.5 equiv of [Ph4P]2[Fe4S4Cl4] provides (L(NImMe)3)Fe6S6Cl6 in high yield. Formation of an [Fe6S6]3+ cluster using L(NImTol)3 (tris(1,3,5-(3-( N, N-bis(4-methylphenyl)-4,5-diphenylimidazolin-2-imino)phenylmethyl))benzene) is not observed; instead, the [Fe4S4]2+ cluster [(L(NImTol)3)(Fe4S4Cl)][BPh4] is cleanly generated when 1 equiv of [Ph4P]2[Fe4S4Cl4] is employed. The selectivity for cluster nuclearity is rationalized by the orientation of the imidazolyl rings whereby long N-imidazolyl substituents preclude formation of [Fe6S6]3+ clusters but not [Fe4S4]2+ clusters. Thus, the structure and nuclearity of L(NImR)3-bound Fe-S clusters may be selectively controlled through rational modification the ligand's substituents.
