Abstract
Anionic cyclopentadienyl (Cp) and its pentamethyl-substituted derivative (Cp*) serve as crucial ligands for creating stable π-coordinated materials, including catalysts. From a structural perspective, the π-extended analog of Cp, known as an N-fused porphyrin (NFP), is recognized as an intriguing 18π aromatic chromophore, offering near-infrared (NIR) optical properties that can be fine-tuned through metal complexation. When coordinated with rhodium at the central NFP core, it forms a sandwich binuclear rhodium(III) complex along with terminal and bridging chloride ligands, denoted as Rh-1, and its bromo derivative, Rh-1-Br. In contrast to the bis-NFP complex of iron(II) reported previously by our team, both Rh-1 and Rh-1-Br complexes exhibit strong NIR optical properties and narrow HOMO-LUMO energy gaps, attributed to minimal orbital interactions between the two co-facial NFP ligands. Leveraging these NIR absorption properties, we assessed the photothermal conversion properties of Rh-1 and ligand 1, revealing high conversion efficiency. This suggests their potential application as photothermal agents for use in photothermal therapy.

Abstract
Boron(III) complexation was investigated in a series of β-substituted porphycenes. Unlike meso-arylporphycenes, these macrocycles undergo a facile complexation reaction. Upon fusion of the β,β'-positions of the porphycene ligand, the complexation resulted in fast insertion of boron, forming the cisoid-B2OF2 complex. However, in the case of the other β-substituted porphycenes, only bis-BF2 complexes formed. The effect of these substituents on the core geometry and photophysical properties are elaborated here.

Abstract
CdS-based materials are extensively studied for photocatalytic water splitting. By incorporating Ag+ into CdS nanomaterials, the catalyst's charge carrier dynamic can be tuned for photo-electrochemical devices. However, photo-corrosion and air-stability of the heterostructures limit the photocatalytic device's performance. Here, a one-pot, single molecular source synthesis of the air-stable AgCdS ternary semiconductor alloy nanostructures by heat-up method is reported. Monoclinic and hexagonal phases of the alloy are tuned by judicious choice of dodecane thiol (DDT), octadecyl amine (ODA), and oleyl amine (OLA) as capping agents. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) and powder X-ray diffraction characterization of the AgCdS alloy confirm the monoclinic and hexagonal phase (wurtzite) formation. The high-resolution TEM studies confirm the formation of AgCdS@DDT alloy nanorods and their shape transformation into nano-triangles. The nanoparticle coalescence is observed for ODA-capped alloys in the wurtzite phase. Moreover, OLA directs mixed crystal phases and anisotropic growth of alloy. Optical processes in AgCdS@DDT nano-triangles show mono-exponential decay (3.97 ± 0.01 ns). The monoclinic phase of the AgCdS@DDT nanorods exhibits higher electrochemical hydrogen evolution activity in neutral media as compared to the AgCdS@ODA/OLA alloy nanocrystals. DDT and OLA-capped alloys display current densities of 14.1 and 14.7 mA cm-2 , respectively, at 0.8 V (vs RHE).

Abstract
Helically twisted bis(naphthobipyrrolyl)methene-derived open-chain hexapyrroles have been synthesized as HCl salts and the corresponding BODIPY. Their solid-state structures elucidated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis clearly showed the presence of intramolecular hydrogen bonds, which were concluded to play a pivotal role in stabilizing the twisted conformation. Both molecules were observed to be NIR active, with the BODIPY moiety emission extending beyond 800 nm.

Abstract
Two core-modified porphyrins containing metal atoms, namely platinum(II) or platinum(IV) and rhodium(III), in place of two NH units, have been obtained by a post-synthetic modification of the 21,23-ditelluraporphyrin. The products of the tellurium-to-metal exchange, 21-platina-23-rhodaporphyrins, incorporate rhodacyclopentadiene and platinacyclopentadiene units with the metal atoms facing each other. The two molecules exhibit different degrees of metal-metal interaction depending on the oxidation state of platinum, with the NBO bond order being 0.04 for platinum(IV) and 0.15 for platinum(II). Consistently, the Quantum Theory of Atoms in Molecules analysis revealed the presence of the bond determinant, the bond critical point, in the platinum(II) species, in contrast to the platinum(IV) congener. The two porphyrinoids are interconvertible in redox reactions. They both exhibit fluxional behaviour in solution, studied by 1H NMR, involving alteration in the metal ion coordination sphere accompanied by the macrocyclic skeleton conformation change.

Abstract
Tetraaryl-21,23-dirhodaporphyrin and a series of related monorhodaporphyrins have been obtained by tellurium-to-rhodium exchange in a reaction of tetraaryl-21,23-ditelluraporphyrin with [RhCl(CO)2 ]2 . These organometallic metallaporphyrins contain rhodium(III) centers embedded in rhodacyclopentadiene rings, incorporated within the porphyrin frames. The skeletons of 21,23-dirhodaporphyrin and 21-rhoda-23-telluraporphyrin are strongly deformed in-plane from the rectangular shape typical for porphyrins, due to rhodium(III) coordination preferences, the large size of the two core atoms, and the porphyrin skeleton constrains. These two metallaporphyrins exhibit fluxional behavior, as studied by 1 H NMR and DFT, involving the in-plane motion and the switch of the rhodium center(s) between two nitrogen donors. A side product detected in the reaction mixture, 21-oxa-23-rhodaporphyrin, results from tellurium-to-oxygen exchange, occurring in parallel to the tellurium-to-rhodium exchange. The reaction paths and mechanisms have been analyzed. The title 21,23-dirhodaporphyrin contains a bridged bimetallic unit, Rh2 Cl2 , in the center of the macrocycle, with two rhodium(III) ions lying approximately in the plane of the porphyrinoid skeleton. The geometry of the implanted Rh2 Cl2 unit is affected by macrocyclic constrains.

Abstract
π-Extension in porphyrinoids can be achieved by fusing additional aromatic rings onto the macrocycle's periphery and such porphyrinoids are referred to as annulated porphyrinoids. Annulated porphyrinoids display contrasting properties in comparison with their non-annulated congeners. While an annulation strategy can create π-extended systems, the simultaneous incorporation of conformational rigidity in such porphyrinoids can ensure that they adopt a planar structure, and the advantages associated with the extended π-network can be leveraged. Hence, while synthesizing such porphyrinoids, judicial selection of the precursor becomes important. The ease of synthesis and the presence of a β-β'-linked o-phenylene bridge qualify 3,8-1,10-dihydrobenzo[e]pyrrolo[3,2-g]indole, commonly known as naphthobipyrrole, to be one such precursor suitable for the synthesis of conformationally rigid annulated porphyrinoids. This field of study has started to bloom only in the last decade and the examples reported so far are confined to the naphtho-versions of porphycenes (isomeric porphyrin), a few members of the aromatic/antiaromatic expanded porphyrinoids, and calix[n]bipyrroles. In view of this, the current review article aims to summarize the up-to-date developments in this area and discusses the synthesis, structure, and properties of the reported naphthobipyrrole-derived annulated porphyrinoids.

Abstract
A novel 22π-aromatic sapphyrin isomer endowed with an acene moiety was designed and realised for the first time as a core-modified monothia analogue. This macrocycle exhibited absorption and emission in the near-infrared region. It was diprotonated under strongly acidic conditions and bound to anions like sapphyrin. It showed unusual coordination chemistry, acting as a neutral ligand and undergoing large out-of-plane deformation to bind Pd(II) ions.

Abstract
Dinaphthoporphycene (DNP) has emerged as a versatile ligand undergoing large out-of-plane distortion to form a cis-bimetallic complex with Pd(II) using Pd(OAc)2 and out-of-plane monometallic complexes with Pd(acac)2 and PtCl2(PhCN)2. Herein, we are finally able to synthesize the in-core complex with Pd(II) using PdCl2(PhCN)2 or PdCl2. The crystal structure shows the palladium ion resides slightly above the N4-core, with the Pd(II) dimensionally dissenting with the typical square planarity displayed by the reported in-core DNP complexes with Ni(II) and Cu(II) ions. The deformed complex displays a blue shift in the absorption spectra compared to DNP and its metallo-derivatives. PdDNP exhibits a moderate singlet oxygen generation ability (18%).

Abstract
Directly investigating hydrogen bond (HB) dynamics in molecular materials is a challenging task. Here, we report a set of porphyrin isomers, porphycenes, that visualize slight changes on the order of picometers in the intramolecular HB dynamics. Intramolecular HBs of porphycenes were regulated by the systematic modification at meso positions with methyl (Me), cyclopentyl (Cy5), and cyclohexyl (Cy6) moieties. Notably, the quantum yields varied from 35 to 0.04% in chloroform, depending on a slight distortion in the porphycene framework. SC-XRD, XPS, and NMR clearly revealed that the Me and Cy6 moieties increased the nonradiative deactivation by strengthening the intramolecular NH···N HBs whereas Cy5 retained their photoluminescence properties. This is the first example of how the distortion of planar porphyrinoids at the picometer level along with the strength of the intramolecular NH···N HBs can drastically affect their optical properties. The results revealed new avenues of HB engineering based on porphyrinoids.

Abstract
The first boron complexes of porphycenes, structural isomers of porphyrin, are reported. They are synthesized in good yields by reacting the free-base porphycene ligands with BF3·Et2O through a microwave-assisted method. Depending on the substituent group of porphycenes, two different coordination structures, mono- and diboron porphycenes, are obtained simultaneously. The single crystal structures and DFT calculations suggest that the boron atom of the monoboron porphycene is favorably coordinated on the dipyrroethene site, and the regioisomer of diboron porphycene is of cisoid stereochemistry, which is more stable than transoid. We also investigate the protonation behavior of boron porphycene complexes. Diboron porphycene does not undergo protonation, whereas monoboron porphycene undergoes protonation at the nonboron coordinating pyrroline site, resulting in a red shift in both absorption and emission spectra. Protonation and deprotonation of monoboron porphycene can be reversibly triggered using acids and bases.

Abstract
We have introduced the first 3,6,13,16-tetrasubstituted porphycene as its tetramethoxy analogue. This substitution pattern is one of the most general patterns yet missing in this isomeric porphyrin chemistry. This porphycene exhibits intense fluorescence along with the ability to coordinate with divalent metal ions; in particular, it forms the first stable Zn(II) complex among the tetrasubstituted porphycenes. Notably, the molecular structure of Zn1•Py displays supramolecular chirality.

Abstract
Two novel β-hexaalkylated porphycenes, i.e., 2,3,7,12,13,17- (HOT) and 2,3,6,12,13,16-hexaethylporphycenes (HIT) were introduced for the first time in porphycene chemistry. These were synthesized through McMurry coupling reactions of new isomeric unsymmetrically substituted triethylbipyrrole dialdehydes. The positional effects of alkyl groups could be manifested through significant alteration in structure of porphycene cores and, as a consequence their photophysical properties, not noticed in β-octaethylporphycene. HOT displays significant fluorescence accompanied by reasonable singlet oxygen generation ability.

Abstract
Sensing of metal ions and anions is of great importance because of their widespread distribution in environmental systems and biological processes. Colorimetric and fluorescent chemosensors based on organic molecular species have been demonstrated to be effective for the detection of various ions and possess the significant advantages of low cost, high sensitivity, and convenient implementation. Of the available classes of organic molecules, porphyrin analogues possess inherently many advantageous features, making them suitable for the design of ion chemosensors, with the targeted sensing behavior achieved and easily modulated based on their following characteristics: (1) NH moieties properly disposed for binding of anions through cooperative hydrogen-bonding interactions; (2) multiple pyrrolic N atoms or other heteroatoms for selectively chelating metal ions; (3) variability of macrocycle size and peripheral substitution for modulation of ion selectivity and sensitivity; and (4) tunable near-infrared emission and good biocompatibility. In this Review, design strategies, sensing mechanisms, and sensing performance of ion chemosensors based on porphyrin analogues are described by use of extensive examples. Ion chemosensors based on normal porphyrins and linear oligopyrroles are also briefly described. This Review provides valuable information for researchers of related areas and thus may inspire the development of more practical and effective approaches for designing high-performance ion chemosensors based on porphyrin analogues and other relevant compounds.
