Abstract
The nitrogen-heteroatom single bonds of 1,2-azoles and isoxazolines underwent methylene insertion in the presence of CH2 I2 (6 equiv.) and diethylzinc (3 equiv.) to produce a wide variety of the ring-expanded six-membered heterocycles. Density functional theory calculations suggest that the methylene insertion proceeds via cleavage of nitrogen-heteroatom single bonds followed by ring closure.

Abstract
Isoxazolidine, isoxazole, and isoquinolinone rings are present in the structure of several natural products and/or pharmaceutically interesting compounds. In this work, facile and efficient pathways have been developed for the preparation of fused frameworks bearing those heterocycles. The successful approaches for both isoxazolidine/isoquinolinone and isoxazole/isoquinolinone hybrid syntheses relied initially on 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions of nitrones and nitrile oxides to indenone and 2-propargylbenzamide, respectively. The construction of the isoquinolinone lactam system followed by performing a selective Schmidt reaction for isoxazolidine derivatives (two steps overall), whereas the isoxazole lactams were reached via an Ullmann-type cyclisation (three steps overall). Key observations were made regarding the stereo- and regioselectivities of the reactions employed, and small libraries of the targeted hybrids were prepared, demonstrating the general applicability of these strategies.

Abstract
An efficient protocol for the straightforward functionalization of the isoxazole ring via the reactions of aromatic nucleophilic substitution of the nitro group with various nucleophiles has been elaborated. The method features excellent chemical yields, easy operability of the reaction, mild reaction conditions and a broad scope of both 5-nitroisoxazoles and nucleophiles. A synthetic approach to 3,5- and 3,4,5-substituted isoxazoles via the sequential functionalization of the isoxazole ring has been developed based on the excellent regioselectivity of the reaction of 3,5-dinitroisoxazoles with nucleophiles.

Abstract
Propargyl aza-Claisen rearrangement of 4-propargylaminoisoxazoles 1 proceeded in the presence of cationic gold(i) catalysts to give 4-amino-5-allenylisoxazoles 2 in good to high yields. The silyl group at the terminal alkyne and a cationic gold(i) catalyst bearing a sterically bulky ligand are essential for the generation of isolable allene intermediates. The N-protection of the generated 4-amino-5-allenylisoxazoles 2 allowed the isolation of 5-allenylisoxazoles 4 that have never been synthesized. N-Propargyl aniline 5 was successfully converted to the corresponding ortho-allenyl aniline 6 under the current reaction conditions.

Abstract
A new convenient and versatile halogenating system (R4NHal/NOHSO4), giving straightforward and general access to halogenated 3,5-diaryl- and alkylarylisoxazoles, pyrazoles and electron-rich benzenes from the corresponding scaffolds, is suggested. The method provides excellent regioselectivity, scalability to the gram scale, and a broad scope for both aromatics and halogens. A three-step, one-pot reaction protocol was developed, and a series of 3,5-diaryl-4-haloisoxazoles has been efficiently synthesized from 1,2-diarylcyclopropanes under suggested nitrosating-halogenating conditions.

Abstract
A novel and practical palladium-catalyzed aerobic oxyarylthiolation of alkynone O-methyloximes for the assembly of 4-sulfenylisoxazole derivatives using S8 and arylhydrazines as the S-aryl sources is accomplished. In the presence of 0.1 mol% of IPr-Pd-allyl-Cl as the catalyst and O2 (1 atm) as the sole oxidant, both alkynone O-methyloximes and arylhydrazines are suitable substrates, delivering diverse 4-sulfenyl isoxazoles in moderate to good yields with good functional group tolerance. Notably, the phenyl diazonium salt and sodium phenyl sulfinate are also suitable arylation reagents, providing an alternative synthetic strategy to access structurally diverse 4-sulfenyl isoxazoles.

Abstract
Sequence-specific C-arylation strategies have important applications in medicinal and material research. These strategies allow C-C bond formations in a regioselective manner to synthesize large molecular libraries for studying structure-activity profiles. The past decade has seen the development of single C-C bond forming reactions using various transition-metal catalysts, cryogenic metalation strategies, and metal-free methods. Sequential arylations of heterocycles allow for the formation of multiaryl derivatives and are a preferred choice over de novo synthetic routes. This perspective sheds light on recent strategic advances to develop various sequential synthetic routes for the multiarylation of heteroarenes. This perspective addresses many challenges in optimizing sequential routes with respect to catalysts, reaction parameters, and various strategies adopted to obtain diversely arylated products.

Sulfonamides
have played a defining role in the history of drug
development and continue to be prevalent today. In particular, primary
sulfonamides are common in marketed drugs. Here we describe the direct
synthesis of these valuable compounds from organometallic reagents
and a novel sulfinylamine reagent, t-BuONSO. A variety
of (hetero)aryl and alkyl Grignard and organolithium reagents perform
well in the reaction, providing primary sulfonamides in good to excellent
yields in a convenient one-step process.

Abstract
Photochemical conversion of isoxazole I to 5-hydroxyimidazoline VII proceeded via the trapping of the photogenerated acylazirine III with amines under UV light irradiation. This is the first report of the efficient synthesis of 5-hydroxyimidazolines that are not readily accessible by other means. 5-Hydroxyimidazolines were also converted into multisubstituted imidazoles in one step by treatment with trifluoroacetic anhydride (TFAA) and 2,6-lutidine in dichloromethane.

Abstract
An efficient oxidative [4+2] annulation of isoxazolyl-4-carboxylic acids with internal alkynes proceeded in the presence of the [Cp*RhCl2]2 catalyst. Oxidants controlled the formation of pyranoisoxazolones and isoquinolines. A decarboxylative approach for the hydroarylation of alkynes with isoxazolyl-4-carboxylic acids was also developed in the presence of the [Cp*Rh(CH3CN)3][SbF6]2 catalyst.

Abstract
An efficient multicomponent reaction for the synthesis of stereoenriched cyclopentyl-isoxazoles from camphor-derived α-oximes, alkynes, and MeOH is reported. Our method involved a series of cascade transformations, including the in situ generation of an IIII catalyst, which catalyzed the addition of MeOH to a sterically hindered ketone. Oxidation of the oxime, and rearrangement of the α-hydroxyiminium ion generated a nitrile oxide in situ, which, upon [3+2] cycloaddition reaction with an alkyne, delivered the regioselective product. This reaction was very selective for the syn-oxime. This multicomponent approach was also extended to the synthesis of a new glycoconjugate, camphoric ester-isoxazole C-galactoside.

Abstract
A synthesis of multiply arylated naphthalenes and anthracenes with eight different substituents has been accomplished. The key intermediates are tetraarylthiophene S-oxides, which are synthesized through a method involving sequential C-H arylation and cross-coupling from 3-methoxythiophene, followed by oxidation of the sulfur atom. The resulting tetraarylthiophene S-oxides can be converted into a tetraaryl benzynes or naphthalynes and then merged through [4+2] cycloaddition reaction with another tetraarylthiophene S-oxide, thereby resulting in the programmed synthesis of octaarylnaphthalenes and octaarylanthracenes.
