Abstract
An improved synthesis of azedarachol is reported in 10 steps with an overall yield of 12% from pregnanetriol. A proper use of p-anisaldehyde dimethyl acetal provided a chance of regioselective reduction of 2-enepregnane-16R,20R-p-anisaldehyde acetal(6) and in turn allowed a selective protection at C16-hydroxy and enabled a stereoselective reduction of C20-ketone to establish the configuration at C20.

Abstract
Chloropupukeananin is a natural product that inhibits HIV-1 replication and has antitumor activity. Its structure consists of a chlorinated tricyclo[4.3.1.03,7]decane core skeleton with an array of highly oxidized multifunctional groups. In the biosynthesis of chloropupukeananin, (+)-iso-A82775C and (−)-maldoxin are employed as biosynthetic precursors for the intermolecular Diels–Alder and carbonyl–ene reactions, followed by the migration of the p-orcellinate group. Chloropupukeanolides and chloropestolides are intermediates and isomers in biosynthesis; their unique chemical structures and biosynthetic pathways have attracted significant attention from synthetic chemists. In this review, I present the synthetic studies on chloropupukeananin and its related compounds that have been conducted thus far.

Abstract
Nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) reaction in classic textbook is a stepwise mechanism, and few examples of concerted reactions have been reported. Herein, we developed a concerted SNAr reaction of 5-bromo-1,2,3-triazines with phenols in which the nonclassic mechanism of this reaction could be revealed by calculation. Furthermore, the resulting 5-aryloxy-1,2,3-triazines could be used as convenient precursors to access biologically important 3-aryloxy-pyridines in one-pot manner.

Abstract
New types of organocatalytic 1,2-rearrangements, which resemble the Smiles-like or semi-pinacol-like rearrangement, of Michael adducts of 1,3-dicarbonyl-2-alkyl compounds and nitroalkenes have been realized. Unlike the well-known conjugate addition, the reaction affords the 1-phenyl-1-nitroalkanes via unprecedented rearrangement and cascade reactions. Structures of the appropriate products were unambiguously characterized by X-ray crystallography.

Abstract
Sespendole is an indole sesquiterpene alkaloid bearing two isoprenyl groups, one of which is highly oxidized. Herein, we disclose an eight-step synthesis of the aromatic fragment of sespendole in an optically pure form, starting from 4-bromo-2-fluoronitrobenzene. The key steps were a Claisen rearrangement at room temperature for introduction of the prenyl group and a coupling between the dianion generated from prenylated bromo-N-tosylanilide and a chiral epoxy aldehyde.

Abstract
A new mode of catalysis of the semipinacol rearrangement of 2,3-epoxy alcohols is described. In combination with a halide salt additive, diarylborinic acids promote a Type II rearrangement that occurs with net retention of configuration. This unusual stereochemical outcome is consistent with a mechanism involving regioselective ring opening of the epoxy alcohol by halide, followed by rearrangement of the resulting halohydrin-derived borinic ester. The protocol is applicable to a range of substrates, enabling ring contractions and expansions as well as stereospecific syntheses of acyclic β-hydroxycarbonyl compounds.

Abstract
A concise and protecting-group-free total synthesis of the antiproliferative natural product (±)-deguelin (2) was accomplished in four steps and 62% overall yield from commercially available precursors. The key transformation employed a vinyl iodide as the pivotal building block to construct the 4-acylchromene substructure present in deguelin. Subsequent Cu2O-mediated α-hydroxylation of deguelin (2) afforded tephrosin (3) in 90% yield.

Abstract
The first total synthesis of selligueain A (4), a plant-derived sweet polyphenol, has been achieved. The key step was the de novo synthetic approach to the selectively protected epiafzelechin unit 10, which was divergently converted to three flavan units 7, 8, and 9. These components were combined by an orthogonal activation and annulation method, enabling assembly of the characteristic trimeric structure with single and double interflavan linkages.
