Abstract
Development of chiral indenyl ligands for asymmetric C-H activation is a longstanding challenge, and extremely few successes have been achieved. In this paper, we describe a class of readily accessible, facilely tunable and user-friendly chiral indenyl ligands featuring a [2.2]benzoindenophane skeleton via a divergent synthesis strategy. The corresponding chiral indenyl rhodium catalysts were successfully applied in the asymmetric C-H activation reaction of O-Boc hydroxybenzamide with alkenes to give various chiral dihydroisoquinolone products (up to 97 % yield, up to 98 % ee). Moreover, the asymmetric C-H activation reaction of carboxylic acids with alkynes was also successfully accomplished, providing a range of axially chiral isocoumarins (up to 99 % yield, up to 94 % ee). Notably, this represents the first example of enantioselective transition metal catalyzed C(sp2)-H activation/oxidative coupling of benzoic acids with internal alkynes to construct isocoumarins. Given many attractive features of this class of indenyl ligands, such as convenient synthesis, high tunability and exclusive face-selectivity of coordination, its applications in more catalytic asymmetric C-H activation and in other asymmetric catalysis are foreseen.

Abstract
A simple four-step route to a chiral tetrahydrofluorenyl rhodium catalyst from naturally occurring (-)-α-pinene was developed. Our approach does not use multistep and time-consuming procedures such as chiral HPLC or diastereomeric resolution. The key to success lies in the face-selective coordination of rhodium to the sterically hindered tetrahydrofluorenyl ligand, giving only one diastereomeric complex. This catalyst proved to be highly efficient for asymmetric C-H annulation of aryl hydroxamates with alkenes (yield up to 95%, 91% ee) at low loading (up to 0.4 mol % based on Rh).

Abstract
The computation of reaction selectivity represents an appealing complementary route to experimental studies and a powerful means to refine catalyst design strategies. Accurately establishing the selectivity of reactions facilitated by molecular catalysts, however, remains a challenging task for computational chemistry. The small free energy differences that lead to large variations in the enantiomeric ratio (er) represent particularly tricky quantities to predict with sufficient accuracy to be helpful for prioritizing experiments. Further complicating this problem is the fact that standard approaches typically consider only one or a handful of conformers identified through human intuition as pars pro toto of the conformational space. Obviously, this assumption can potentially lead to dramatic failures should key energetic low-lying structures be missed. Here, we introduce a multi-level computational pipeline leveraging the graph-based Molassembler library to construct an ensemble of molecular catalysts. The manipulation and interpretation of molecules as graphs provides a powerful and direct route to tailored functionalization and conformer generation that facilitates high-throughput mechanistic investigations of chemical reactions. The capabilities of this approach are validated by examining a Rh(iii) catalyzed asymmetric C-H activation reaction and assessing the limitations associated with the underlying ligand design model. Specifically, the presence of remarkably flexible chiral Cp ligands, which induce the experimentally observed high level of selectivity, present a rich configurational landscape where multiple unexpected conformations contribute to the reported enantiomeric ratios (er). Using Molassembler, we show that considering about 20 transition state conformations per catalysts, which are generated with little human intervention and are not tied to "back-of-the-envelope" models, accurately reproduces experimental er values with limited computational expense.

Abstract
Chiral half-sandwich cyclopentadienyl rhodium(III) (CpRhIII ) complexes are powerful catalysts for promoting asymmetric C-H activation reactions. Their preparation normally involved linking or embedding the Cp motif to or into a certain chiral backbone to forge the so-called chiral Cp ligand. However, preparation of a planar-chiral CpRhIII catalyst bearing a non-chiral Cp ligand remains a formidable challenge and is rarely reported. We describe herein an unusual class of planar-chiral rhodium catalysts bearing non-chiral Cp ligands. Different from existing ones, this catalyst is readily tunable. Ten planar-chiral only CpRhIII catalysts were prepared with ease, and successfully used in two enantioselective C-H activation reactions. Given its convenient synthesis and high structural tunability, these catalysts are expected to find more utilities in asymmetric C-H activation.

Abstract
Axially chiral atropisomeric compounds are widely applied in asymmetric catalysis and medicinal chemistry. In particular, axially chiral indole- and indoline-based frameworks have been recognised as important heterobiaryl classes because they are the core units of bioactive natural alkaloids, chiral ligands and bioactive compounds. Among them, the synthesis of C7-substituted indole biaryls and the analogous indoline derivatives is particularly challenging, and methods for their efficient synthesis are in high demand. Transition-metal catalysis is considered one of the most efficient methods to construct atropisomers. Here, we report the enantioselective synthesis of C7-indolino- and C7-indolo biaryl atropisomers by means of C-H functionalisation catalysed by chiral RhJasCp complexes.

Abstract
Over the last decade, high-valent cobalt catalysis has earned a place in the spotlight as a valuable tool for C-H activation and functionalization. Since the discovery of its unique reactivity, more and more attention has been directed towards the utilization of cobalt as an alternative to noble metal catalysts. In particular, Cp*Co(III) complexes, as well as simple Co(II) and Co(III) salts in combination with bidentate chelation assistance, have been extensively used for the development of novel transformations. In this review, we have demonstrated the existing trends in the C-H functionalization methodology using high-valent cobalt catalysis and highlighted the main challenges to overcome, as well as perspective directions, which need to be further developed in the future.

Abstract
Chiral cyclopentadienyl rhodium (CpRh) complex-catalyzed asymmetric C-H functionalization reactions have witnessed a significant progress in organic synthesis. In sharp contrast, the reported chiral Cp ligands are limited to C-linked Cp and are often synthetically challenging. To address these issues, we have developed a novel class of tunable chiral cyclopentadienyl ligands bearing oxygen linkers, which were efficient catalysts for C-H arylation of benzo[h]quinolines with 1-diazonaphthoquinones, affording axially chiral heterobiaryls in excellent yields and enantioselectivity (up to 99 % yield, 98.5:1.5 er). Mechanistic studies suggest that the reaction is likely to proceed by electrophilic C-H activation, and followed by coupling of the cyclometalated rhodium(III) complex with 1-diazonaphthoquinones.

Abstract
A new class of C2 -symmetric, chiral cyclopentadienyl ligand based on planar chiral ferrocene backbone was developed. A series of its corresponding rhodium(I), iridium(I), and ruthenium(II) complexes were prepared as well. In addition, the rhodium(I) complexes were evaluated in the asymmetric catalytic intramolecular amidoarylation of olefin-tethered benzamides via C-H activation.

Abstract
A new class of chiral cyclopentadienyl rhodium(I) complexes (CpRhI ) bearing C2 -symmetric chiral bridged-ring-fused Cp ligands was prepared. The complexes were successfully applied to the asymmetric C-H activation reaction of N-methoxybenzamides with quinones, affording a series of chiral hydrophenanthridinones in up to 82 % yield with up to 99 % ee. Interestingly, structure analysis reveals that the side wall of the optimal chiral CpRhI catalyst is vertically more extended, horizontally less extended, and closer to the metal center in comparison with the classic binaphthyl and spirobiindanyl CpRhI complexes, and may thus account for its superior catalytic performance.

Abstract
Enantioselective carboaminations of olefins constitute an attractive strategy for a rapid increase in molecular complexity from readily available starting materials. Reported here is an intermolecular asymmetric carboamination of acrylates using rhodium(III)-catalyzed alkenyl C-H activations of N-enoxysuccinimides to generate the nitrogen and carbon portion for the transfer. A rhodium complex equipped with a tailored bulky trisubstituted chiral Cpx ligand ensures carboamination chemoselectivity as well high levels of enantioinduction. The transformation operates under mild reaction conditions at ambient temperatures and provides access to a variety of α-amino esters in good yields and excellent enantiomeric ratios of >99.5:0.5.

Abstract
Transition-metal-catalyzed C-H functionalization reactions with Cp*MIII catalysts (M=Co, Rh, Ir) have found a wide variety of applications in organic synthesis. Albeit the intrinsic difficulties in achieving catalytic stereocontrol using these catalysts due to their lack of additional coordination sites for external chiral ligands and the conformational flexibility of the Cp ligand, catalytic enantioselective C-H functionalization reactions using the Group 9 metal triad with Cp-type ligands have been intensively studied since 2012. In this minireview, the progress in these reactions according to the type of the chiral catalyst used are summarized and discussed. The development of chiral Cpx ligands the metal complexes thereof, artificial metalloenzymes, chiral carboxylate-assisted enantioselective C-H activations, enantioselective alkylations assisted by chiral carboxylic acids or chiral sulfonates, and chiral transient directing groups are discussed.

Abstract
It has been established that a cyclopentadienyl (Cp) RhIII complex with two aryl groups and a pendant amide moiety catalyzes the formal Lossen rearrangement/alkenylation cascade of N-pivaloyl heterole carboxamides with internal alkynes, leading to alkenylheteroles. Interestingly, the use of sterically demanding internal alkynes afforded not the alkenylation but the [3+2] annulation products ([5,5]-fused heteroles). In these reactions, the pendant amide moiety of the CpRhIII complex may accelerate the formal Lossen rearrangement. The use of five-membered heteroles may deter reductive elimination to form strained [5,5]-fused heteroles; instead, protonation proceeds to give the alkenylation products. Bulky alkyne substituents accelerate the reductive elimination to allow the formation of the [5,5]-fused heteroles.

Abstract
Chiral cyclopentadienyl RhIII complexes efficiently catalyze enantioselective cyclopropanations of electron-deficient olefins with N-enoxysuccinimides as the C1 unit. Excellent asymmetric inductions and high diastereoselectivities can be obtained for a wide range of substrate combinations. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions without precautions to exclude air and water. Moreover, the synthetic utility of the developed method is demonstrated by concise syntheses of members of the oxylipin natural products family and the KMO inhibitor UPF-648.

Abstract
A chiral Cpx RhIII catalyst system in situ generated from a Cpx RhI (cod) precatalyst and bis(o-toluoyl) peroxide as activating oxidant was developed for a C-H activation/ring-opening sequence between aryl ketoxime ethers and 2,3-diazabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-enes. This transformation provides access to densely functionalized chiral cyclopentenylamines in excellent yields and enantioselectivities of up to 97:3 er. The reported method is also well suitable for asymmetric alkenyl C-H functionalizations of α,β-unsaturated oxime ethers, furnishing skipped dienes with high levels of enantiocontrol.

Abstract
Rapid synthesis of fulvenes is achieved using pyrrolidinium/pyrrolidine buffers in anhydrous acetonitrile. Time-dependent UV-vis absorption and NMR spectroscopy reveal that the rate and yield of fulvene formation depend strongly on both the presence of acid in the medium and the choice of solvent, and they are negatively affected by water. Kinetic data have been collected for various substrates, and the synthetic benefits of the adjusted reaction conditions are showcased. Enhancements of reaction rates are found in comparison to literature procedures. α-Unsaturated fulvenes that were previously difficult to access can now be obtained in good yields.

Abstract
Mild complexations of chiral cyclopentadienes with rhodium(i) and iridium(i) precursors enable user-friendly in situ complex formation for catalytic applications.
A practical complexation method for chiral cyclopentadienyl (Cpx) iridium and rhodium complexes is described. The procedure uses the free CpxH with stable and commercially available rhodium(i) and iridium(i) salts without base or additive. The conditions are mild and do not require the exclusion of air and moisture. A salient feature is the suitability for in situ complexations enhancing the user-friendliness of Cpx ligands in asymmetric catalysis. DFT-calculations confirm an intramolecular proton abstraction pathway by either the bound acetate or methoxide. Furthermore, the superior facial selectivity of the proton abstraction step enabled the development of TMS-containing trisubstituted Cpx ligands which display improved enantioselectivities for the benchmarking dihydroisoquinolone synthesis.

Abstract
RhIII - and IrIII -catalyzed asymmetric C-H functionalization reactions of arenes have relied on the employment of chiral RhIII /IrIII cyclopentadienyl catalysts, the introduction of chiral carboxylic acids to achiral Cp*RhX2 catalysts, and the integration of both strategies. Despite considerable progress, each reaction only provided a specific configuration of the enantioenriched product when using a particular chiral catalyst. Reported in this work is the enantiodivergent coupling of sulfoximines with various diazo compounds by RhIII -catalyzed desymmetrizing annulation. The enantiodivergence was enabled by a judicious choice of achiral carboxylic acids, and the enantioselectivity correlates with the steric bias of the carboxylic acid and the sulfoximine.
