Abstract
An efficient synthesis of benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloids via a synergistic combination of C-C bond formation and a cycloaromatization reaction is described. Aryl nitrones react with 7-azabenzonorbornadienes in the presence of a Rh(III) catalyst, providing pharmaceutically useful benzo[c]phenanthridine derivatives in good to moderate yields. Using this methodology, highly useful alkaloids such as norfagaronine, norchelerythrine, decarine, norsanguinarine, and nornitidine were prepared in a single step.

Abstract
Fe-catalyzed difunctionalization of aryl titanates via double C-H activation has been developed, where aryl titanates were arylated via ortho C-H activation, followed by ipso electrophilic trapping of the C-Ti bond. The ortho C-H arylation should be promoted by a 1,2-Fe/Ti synergistic heterobimetallic arylene intermediate and represents an ortho C-H ferration directed by a readily transformable C-Ti group. Common benzamides, esters, and nitriles function as arylating reagents, which involves another ortho C-H activation directed by these functionalities.

Abstract
We describe an efficient method for benzylic C-H fluorination via sequential hydrogen-atom transfer (HAT) and oxidative radical-polar crossover utilizing the Ag(I)/Selectfluor system. Amide ligands, such as benzamide and sulfonamide, substantially facilitate the processes leading to a carbocation intermediate, which subsequently reacts with nucleophilic fluorinating reagent to form a C-F bond. This protocol is applicable to the fluorination of all 1°, 2°, and 3° C-H bonds as well as to late-stage C-H fluorination of bioactive molecules.

Abstract
Disclosed herein is a RhCl3 -catalyzed peri-selective C-H/C-H oxidative homo-coupling of 1-substituted naphthalenes, which provides a highly efficient and streamlined approach to chalcogen-embedded anthanthrenes from readily available starting materials. Introducing O, S, and Se into the anthanthrene skeleton leads to gradually increased π-π stacking distances but significantly enhanced π-π overlaps with the growth of the hetero-atom radius. Moderate π-π distance, overlap area, and intermolecular S-S interactions endow S-embedded anthanthrene (PTT) with excellent 2D charge-transport properties. Moreover, the transformation of p-type to n-type S-embedded anthanthrenes is realized for the first time via the S-atom oxidation from PTT to PTT-O4. In organic field-effect transistor devices, PTT derivatives exhibit hole transport with mobilities up to 1.1 cm2 V-1 s-1 , while PTT-O4 shows electron transport with a mobility of 0.022 cm2 V-1 s-1 .

Abstract
An efficient ruthenium(II)-catalyzed tandem C-C/C-N bond formation with aryl amides and 7-azabenzonorbornadienes has been developed to synthesize cis-fused dihydrobenzo[c]phenanthridinones. The amide group functions as a directing group as well as a leaving group and provides an easy access to the pharmaceutically useful benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloids such as nitidine and fagaronine analogues. The present methodology is compatible with various functional groups with respect to azabicyclic alkenes and aromatic amides. The reaction mechanism involving directing-group-assisted C-H activation was proposed and supported by the deuterium labeling studies.

Abstract
The academically widely used electron-transporting materials (ETMs) typically suffer from low glass transition temperatures (Tg ) that could lead to poor device stability. Considering practical applications, we herein put forward a "3D molecular interaction architecture" strategy to design high-performance ETMs. As a proof-of-concept, a type of structurally nontraditional ETMs with the benzo[c]cinnoline (BZC) skeleton have been proposed and synthesized by the C-H/C-H homo-coupling of N-acylaniline as the key step. 2,9-diphenylbenzo[c]cinnoline (DPBZC) exhibits strong intermolecular interactions that feature a 3D architecture, which boosts Tg to exceedingly high 218 °C with a fast electron mobility (μe ) of 6.4×10-4 cm2 V-1 s-1 . DPBZC-based fluorescent organic light-emitting diodes show outstanding electroluminescent performances with an external quantum efficiency of 20.1 % and a power efficiency as high as 70.6 lm W-1 , which are superior to those of the devices with the commonly used ETMs.

Abstract
The installation of (benzo)thiophene-containing biaryls via coupling reactions has become a staple in designing photoelectric materials. Undeniably, C-H/C-H cross-coupling reactions between two (hetero)aromatics would be a shortcut toward these structural fragments. While more reliable cross-coupling technologies are well-established to provide C2-arylated (benzo)thiophenes, efficient methods that arylate the C3-position remain underdeveloped. Herein we provide insight into the factors that determine regioselectivity switching for these cross-coupling reactions. X-ray crystallographic analysis gives solid evidence for the key roles of triflate in regioselective dearomatization and acetate in base-assisted anti-β-deprotonated rearomatization. The first isolation and X-ray characterization of a medium-sized dearomatized cyclometalated adduct involving both substrates provide extra insight into aerobic oxidative Ar-H/Ar-H cross-coupling reactions. The mechanistic breakthrough incubates the first example, enabling C-H/C-H-type C3-arylation of benzothiophenes. Finally, this chemistry is used to design blue-emitting thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) materials with a helicene conformation that exhibit a high maximum external quantum efficiency of 25.4% in OLED.

Abstract
The unsymmetrical biaryls (Ar1-Ar2) produced by the catalytic cross-couplings of aryl halides (Ar1-halo) with aryl metallics (Ar2-M) in the loading ratio of 1:1 are popular in chemical synthesis. In contrast, there has been less precedence on the same biaryls produced effectively from two normal aryl C-H bonds with equivalent loading. Here, we report that, in a palladium/oxidant/acid catalytic system at room temperature, one arene (Ar1-H, 1 equiv) can highly selectively couple with the other one (Ar2-H, 1 equiv) to afford the target Ar1-Ar2 just by controlling the directing groups and the substituted groups on their phenyl rings. The utility of this one-one cross-coupling is also demonstrated by synthesis of a few bioactive molecules.

Abstract
A cobalt-catalyzed direct C-H/N-H functionalization of thiophene-2-carbohydrazides with maleimides by utilizing 2-(1-methylhydrazinyl)pyridine (MHP) as an easily removable bidentate directing group has been developed. This formal [4+2] cycloaddition has been achieved for the first time, and it provides an alternative and versatile approach to construct thiophene-fused pyridones using an inexpensive cobalt catalyst. The C-H/N-H activation cascade protocol showed a high efficiency and a broad substrate scope, and the products were obtained in good to excellent yields.

Abstract
The regioselective C–H arylation of substituted polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) is a desired but challenging task. A copper-catalyzed C7–H arylation of 1-naphthamides has been developed by using aryliodonium salts as arylating reagents. This protocol does not need to use precious metal catalysts and tolerates wide variety of functional groups. Under standard conditions, the remote C–H arylation of other PAHs including phenanthrene-9-carboxamide, pyrene-1-carboxamide and fluoranthene-3-carboxamide has also accomplished, which provides an opportunity for the development of diverse organic optoelectronic materials.

Abstract
Direct cross-coupling of Csp2-H/Csp2-H bonds of two arenes was achieved in 30-76% yield via sequential directed ortho cuprations (DoCu) with the cuprate base (TMP)2Cu(CN)Li2 (1, TMP = 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidido), followed by oxidation. This methodology offers easy access to unsymmetric biaryls from arenes with a variety of directed metalation groups (DMGs) and ancillary functional groups, taking advantage of the highly chemoselective action of 1.

Abstract
A mild and efficient protocol for the synthesis of 2,2'-difunctional biaryls from readily available benzamides and oximes by Co(OAc)2·4H2O catalysis has been developed. The catalytic cycle that includes aerobic oxidation of Co(I) to Co(III) is successfully achieved for the first time through dual-chelation-assisted C-H/C-H coupling with the assistance of catalytic Mn(acac)3. The catalytic system exhibits powerful reactivity and tolerates a large number of sensitive functional groups.
