Abstract
Archangiumide is the first known macrolide natural product comprising an endocyclic allene. For the ring strain that this linear substructure might entail, it was planned to unveil the allene at a very late stage of the projected total synthesis; in actual fact, this was achieved as the last step of the longest linear sequence by using an otherwise globally deprotected substrate. This unconventional timing was made possible by a gold catalyzed rearrangement of a macrocyclic propargyl benzyl ether derivative that uses a -PMB group as latent hydride source to unveil the signature cycloallene; the protecting group therefore gains a strategic role beyond its mere safeguarding function. Although the gold catalyzed reaction per se is stereoablative, the macrocyclic frame of the target was found to impose high selectivity and a stereoconvergent character on the transformation. The required substrate was formed by ring closing alkyne metathesis (RCAM) with the aid of a new air-stable molybdenum alkylidyne catalyst.

The emphasis is on new compounds (1425 in 416 papers for 2021), together with the relevant biological activities, source organisms and country of origin. Pertinent reviews, biosynthetic studies, first syntheses, and syntheses that led to the revision of structures or stereochemistries, have been included. An analysis of the number of authors, their affiliations, domestic and international collection locations, focus of MNP studies, citation metrics and journal choices is discussed.

Abstract
The synthesis of pyrrolidin-5-one-2-carboxamides 6a-p has been developed via a one-pot Ugi reaction of allenic acids, primary amines, isocyanides, and aldehydes followed by regioselective cyclization of the resultant N-substituted-2-allenamides with KOt-Bu at room temperature. The cyclization reaction was carried out through a 5-exo-dig approach, which resulted in good yields and high atom-economy under transition-metal-free and mild reaction conditions.

Abstract
Terpenoids constitute a broad class of natural compounds with tremendous variability in structure and bioactivity, which resulted in a strong interest of the chemical community to this class of natural products over the last 150 years. The presence of strained small rings renders the terpenoid targets interesting for chemical synthesis, due to limited number of available methods and stability issues. In this feature article, a number of recent examples of total syntheses of terpenoids with complex carbon frameworks featuring small rings are discussed. Specific emphasis is given to the new developments in strategical and tactical approaches to construction of such systems.

Abstract
The first examples of cross-metathesis between two different allenes is disclosed. First- and second-generation Ru complexes were found to be ineffective, at most affording only oligomeric products. The exception was a first-generation complex bearing a bidentate phenyl isopropoxy ligand (i.e., PCy3 is not released upon initiation), reactions with which afforded a 1,3-disubstituted allenyl boronate in 22% yield. On the basis of mechanistic studies designed to gain deeper understanding of the reasons for the ineffectiveness of different Ru catalysts, it was discovered that phosphine-free Ru-CAAC complexes have the steric and electronic attributes to be highly effective. The results of these investigations pave the way for development of additional olefin metathesis reactions that generate allenes.
