Hierarchical Hollow Zinc Oxide Nanocomposites Derived from Morphology‐Tunable Coordination Polymers for Enhanced Solar Hydrogen Production

Efficient Photocatalytic Cleavage of Lignin Models by a Soluble Perylene Diimide/Carbon Nitride S-Scheme Heterojunction

3,4,9,10-Perylenetetracarboxylic dianhydride (PDI) is one of the best n-type organic semiconductors and an ideal light-driven catalyst for lignin depolymerization. However, the charge localization effect and the excessively strong intermolecular aggregation trend in PDI result in rapid electron-hole (e- -h+ ) recombination, which limits photocatalytic performance. Herein, polymeric carbon nitride/polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane PDI (p-CN/P-PDI) S-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst was prepared by the solvent evaporation-deposition method for C-C bond selective cleavage of lignin β-O-4 model. Based on the material characterization results, the synergic role of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) and S-scheme heterojunction maintains appropriate aggregation domains, achieves better solar light utilization, faster charge-transfer efficiency, and greater redox capacity. Notably, the 3 % p-CN/P-PDI heterostructure exhibits a remarkable enhancement in cleavage conversion efficiency, achieving approximately 16.42 and 2.57 times higher conversion rates compared to polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane modified PDI (POSS-PDI) and polymeric carbon nitride (p-CN), respectively.

Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using Eupatorium adenophorum leaf extract: characterizations, antioxidant, antibacterial and photocatalytic activities

The green synthesis of metallic nanoparticles has tremendous impacts in various fields as found in recent years due to their low cost, easy and environmentally friendly synthesis. In this article, we report a simple and eco-friendly method for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using an aqueous Eupatorium adenophorum (E. adenophorum) leaf extract as a bioreductant. Interestingly, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy analysis established that the E. adenophorum extract not only served as a bioreductant but also acted as a capping agent to stabilize the nanoparticles by functionalizing the surfaces. Various characterization techniques were adopted, such as X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), FTIR, ultraviolet-visible absorption (UV-Vis) spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) to analyze the biosynthesized AgNPs. Biosynthesized nanoparticles were also explored for antioxidant, antibacterial and photocatalytic activities. The AgNPs showed improved free radical scavenging activity (IC₅₀ 48.96 ± 0.84 µg/mL) and bacterial inhibitory effects against both gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus; 64.5 µg/mL) and gram-negative (Escherichia coli; 82.5 µg/mL) bacteria. Photocatalytic investigation showed AgNPs were effective at degrading rhodamine dye (78.69% in 90 min) when exposed to sunlight. These findings collectively suggest that E. adenophorum AgNPs were successfully prepared without the involvement of any hazardous chemical and it may be an effective antibacterial, antioxidant and promising agent for the removal of hazardous dye from waste water produced by industrial dyeing processes.

The Advanced Synthesis of MOFs-Based Materials in Photocatalytic HER in Recent Three Years

Since the advent of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), researchers have paid extensive attention to MOFs due to their determined structural composition, controllable pore size, and diverse physical and chemical properties. Photocatalysis, as a significant application of MOFs catalysts, has developed rapidly in recent years and become a research hotspot continuously. Various methods and approaches to construct and modify MOFs and their derivatives can not only affect the structure and morphology, but also largely determine their properties. Herein, we summarize the advanced synthesis of MOFs-based materials in the field of the photocatalytic decomposition of water to produce hydrogen in the recent three years. The main contents include the overview of the novel synthesis strategies in four aspects: internal modification and structure optimization of MOFs materials, MOFs/semiconductor composites, MOFs/COFs-based hybrids, and MOFs-derived materials. In addition, the problems and challenges faced in this direction and the future development goals were also discussed. We hope this review will help deepen the reader’s understanding and promote continued high-quality development in this field.
