Abstract
Ammonia (NH3) is a viable candidate for the storage and distribution of hydrogen (H2) due to its exceptional volumetric and gravimetric hydrogen energy density. Therefore, it is desirable to develop NH3 storage materials that exhibit robust stability across numerous adsorption-desorption cycles. While porous materials with polymeric frameworks are often used for NH3 capture, achieving reversible NH3 uptake remains a formidable challenge, primarily due to the high reactivity of NH3. Here, we advocate the use of CO2H-functionalized cyclic oligophenylene 1a with high chemical stability as a novel single-molecule-based adsorbent for NH3. Simple reprecipitation of 1a selectively yielded microporous crystalline solid 1a (N). Crystalline 1a (N) adsorbs up to 8.27 mmol/g of NH3 at 100 kPa and 293 K. Adsorbed NH3 in the pore of 1a (N) has a packing density of 0.533 g/cm3 at 293 K, which is close to the density of liquid NH3 (0.681 g/cm3 at 240 K). Crystalline 1a (N) also exhibits reversible NH3 adsorption over at least nine cycles, sustaining its storage capacity (1st cycle: 8.27 mmol/g; 9th cycle: 8.25 mmol/g at 100 kPa and 293 K) and crystallinity. During each desorption cycle, NH3 was removed from 1a (N) under reduced pressure (∼65 Pa), leaving <3% of the total uptake, and 1a (N) was fully purged under dynamic vacuum conditions (∼5 × 10-4 Pa at 293 K for 1 h) before the subsequent adsorption cycles. Thus, microporous crystalline 1a (N) can reliably adsorb and desorb NH3 repeatedly, which avoids the need for heat-based activation between cycles.

Abstract
A 126 π-electron nanobowl molecule, phenine tridehydrosumanene, was synthesized in 12 steps through the development of a polygon cyclization strategy that assembled the polygonal precursors by Ni-mediated macrocyclization. The bowl-shaped structure accommodated C70 as a guest at the concave site, and the ball-in-bowl structure was determined by X-ray crystallography. The host-guest equilibrium in solution was studied with titration experiments using isothermal calorimetry, which provided an interesting test case for studying the host-guest stoichiometry. Bayesian inference was introduced for stoichiometric analyses of the equilibrium, and a procedure to estimate the volume of prior probability in the parameter space was developed. The Bayesian procedure functioned as Occam's razor and provided quantitative support for a specific stoichiometry. The method was examined with five host-guest examples comprising nanocarbon hosts, which suggested the versatility of Bayesian inference for studies of supramolecular complexes.

Abstract
PURPOSE Some individuals with idiopathic focal epilepsy (IFE) experience recurring seizures accompanied by the evolution of electrical status epilepticus during sleep (ESES). Here, we aimed to develop a predictor for the early detection of seizure recurrence with ESES in children with IFE using resting state electroencephalogram (EEG) data. METHODS The study group included 15 IFE patients who developed seizure recurrence with ESES. There were 17 children in the control group who did not experience seizure recurrence with ESES during at least 2-year follow-up. We used the degree value of the partial directed coherence (PDC) from the EEG data to predict seizure recurrence with ESES via 6 machine learning (ML) algorithms. RESULTS Among the models, the Xgboost Classifier (XGBC) model achieved the highest specificity of 0.90, and a remarkable sensitivity and accuracy of 0.80 and 0.85, respectively. The CATC showed balanced performance with a specificity of 0.85, sensitivity of 0.73, and an accuracy of 0.80, with an AUC equal to 0.78. For both of these models, F4, Fz and T4 were the overlaps of the top 4 features. CONCLUSIONS Considering its high classification accuracy, the XGBC model is an effective and quantitative tool for predicting seizure recurrence with ESES evolution in IFE patients. We developed an ML-based tool for predicting the development of IFE using resting state EEG data. This could facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of patients with IFE.

Abstract
Thyroid eye disease (TED) has brought great physical and mental trauma to patients worldwide. Although a few potential signaling pathways have been reported, knowledge of TED remains limited. Our objective is to explore the fundamental mechanism of TED and identify potential therapeutic targets using diverse approaches. To perform a range of bioinformatic analyses, such as identifying differentially expressed genes (DEGs), conducting enrichment analysis, establishing nomograms, analyzing weighted gene correlation network analysis (WGCNA), and studying immune infiltration, the datasets GSE58331, GSE105149, and GSE9340 were integrated. Further validation was conducted using qPCR, western blot, and immunohistochemistry techniques. Eleven ferroptosis-related DEGs derived from the lacrimal gland were originally screened. Their high diagnostic value was proven, and diagnostic prediction nomogram models with high accuracy and robustness were established by using machine learning. A total of 15 hub gene-related DEGs were identified by WGCNA. Through CIBERSORTx, we uncovered five immune cells highly correlated with TED and found several special associations between these immune cells and the above DEGs. Furthermore, EGR2 from the thyroid sample was revealed to be closely negatively correlated with most DEGs from the lacrimal gland. High expression of APOD, COPB2, MYH11, and MYCN, as well as CD4/CD8 T cells and B cells, was verified in the periorbital adipose tissues of TED patients. To summarize, we discovered a new gene signature associated with ferroptosis that has a critical impact on the development of TED and provides valuable insights into immune infiltration. These findings might highlight the new direction and therapeutic strategies of TED.

Abstract
Molecular basket 16- comprising a nonpolar cavity and an anionic nest of six carboxylates at its rim was found to form inclusion complexes with (1R, 2S)-ephedrine, (1R, 2R)-pseudoephedrine, and (1S, 2R)-tranylcypromine. Experimental results (NMR) and theory (MM/DFT) suggest the basket encapsulates phenethylamines in unique and predictable fashion.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Alcohol is a psychoactive substance with deleterious effects on human health and mortality. This study aims to investigate the joint associations between the Mediterranean Diet (MedDiet), alcohol- consumption patterns and mortality from the following: all causes, cardiovascular, neoplastic, the digestive system, and other causes. METHODS A sample of 3411 alcohol consumers aged ≥18 years was selected from two prospective cohort studies: the MICOL and NUTRIHEP Study. Cohorts were enrolled in 2005-2006, and followed up until December 2022, capturing data on alcohol consumption, diet, and mortality. Adherence to the MedDiet was measured by the relative Mediterranean score (rMED), and alcohol consumption by the Mediterranean Alcohol-drinking Pattern index (MADP). Statistical analyses included flexible parametric survival models and subdistribution hazard ratios, to consider different causes of death. RESULTS a significant increase in digestive-system (SHR 2.77, 95% CI 1.16; 63) and cancer mortality risk (SHR 2.25, 95% CI 1.08; 4.70) was observed among individuals with low adherence to the MADP. Low adherence to the Mediterranean pattern of alcohol consumption, combined with low adherence to the MedDiet, was associated with higher overall mortality (HR 2.29, 95% CI 1.04, 5.04), and, in particular, with higher mortality from digestive system diseases (SHR 4.38, 95% CI 1.22, 15.8). CONCLUSIONS This study suggests that deleterious effects of alcohol on mortality vary, depending on alcohol consumption patterns and dietary context. Higher adherence to the MedDiet appears to mitigate the adverse effects of moderate alcohol consumption, particularly for wine drinkers.

Abstract
Defining chemical processes with equations is the first important step in characterizing equilibria for the assembly of supramolecular complexes, and the stoichiometry of the assembled components must be defined to generate the equation. Recently, this subject has attracted renewed interest, and statistical and/or information-theoretic measures were introduced to examine the validities of the equilibrium models used during curve fitting analyses of titration. The present study shows that these measures may not always be appropriate for credibility examinations and that further reformation of the protocols used to determine the overall stoichiometry is necessary. Hydrocarbon cage hosts and their chloroform complexes formed via weak CH-π hydrogen bonds were studied, which allowed us to introduce van 't Hoff analyses for effective validation of the stoichiometries of supramolecular complexes. This study shows that the stoichiometries of supramolecular complexes should be carefully examined by adopting multiple measures with different origins.

Abstract
To investigate the host ability of a simple macrocycle, 1,3-phenylene-bridged naphthalene hexamer N6, we evaluated the complexation of N6 with fullerenes in toluene and in the crystals. The complexes in the solid-state demonstrate the one-dimensional alignment of fullerenes. The single-crystals of the C60@N6 composite have semiconductive properties revealed by photoconductivity measurements.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO) is the main source of seasoning fat in the Mediterranean diet and it is one of the components with known protective factors on chronic-degenerative disease. We aimed to evaluate the effect of a medium-high level of oil consumption on mortality in a cohort with good adherence to the Mediterranean diet. METHODS A total of 2754 subjects who had completed the food questionnaire in the Multicenter Italian study on Cholelithiasis (MICOL) cohort were included in the study. EVOO consumption was categorized in four levels (<20 g/die, 21-30 g/die, 31-40 g/die, >40 g/die). We performed a flexible parametric survival model to assess mortality by EVOO consumption level adjusted for some covariates. We also performed the analysis on subjects with and without non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) to evaluate the effects of oil in this more fragile sub-cohort. RESULTS We found a statistically significant negative effect on mortality for the whole sample when EVOO consumption was used, both as a continuous variable and when categorized. The protective effect was stronger in the sub-cohort with NAFLD, especially for the highest levels of EVOO consumption (HR = 0.58 with p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Our study has shown a protective effect of EVOO consumption towards all causes of mortality. Despite the higher caloric intake, the protective power is greater for a consumption >40 g/day in both the overall cohort and the sub-cohorts with and without NAFLD.

Cycloparaphenylenes (CPPs) exhibit selective host capabilities, featuring the ability to incorporate smaller CPPs to form double-walled host-guest complexes. Moreover, CPPs can also be stabilized by global aromaticity under twofold oxidation or reduction, involving electronic conjugation along with the overall structural backbone. Herein we explore the structural modifications, bonding, electron delocalization and magnetic properties of doubly reduced double-walled CPP complexes with DFT methods, in the isolated and aggregate [n + 5]CPP⊃[n]CPP2- (n = 5-8) species. Our results show that the hosts undergo structural, bonding and delocalization deformations towards quinoidal configurations and exhibit global long-ranged shielding cones similar to global aromatic free dianionic CPPs, accounting for charge delocalization on the outer nanohoops, whereas the guests preserve local aromatic benzenoid configurations, resulting in global and local aromatic circuits within the host-guest aggregate. This observation suggests that in multi-layered related species electronic delocalization will be retained at the outer structural surface. The aromaticity of the hosts is manifested in the strong upfield shifts of the guests 1H-NMR signals. Hence, CPP complexes can be extended to doubly reduced species stabilized by global host aromaticity expanding our understanding of doubled-walled nanotubes at the nanoscale regime.

Abstract
Supramolecular behavior is highly dependent on many factors, including complicated microenvironments and weak interactions. Herein, we describe tuning supramolecular architectures of rigid macrocycles by synergistic effects of their geometric configurations, sizes, and guests. Two paraphenylene-based macrocycles are anchored onto different positions in a triphenylene derivative, resulting in dimeric macrocycles with different shapes and configurations. Interestingly, these dimeric macrocycles show tunable supramolecular interactions with guests. In solid state, a 2 : 1 host-guest complex was observed between 1a and C60/C70, while an unusual 2 : 3 host-guest complex 3C60@(1b)2 can be observed between 1b and C60. This work expands the scope of the synthesis of novel rigid bismacrocycles and provides a new strategy to construct different supramolecular systems.
