Two-Second-Annealed 2D/3D Perovskite Films with Graded Energy Funnels and Toughened Heterointerfaces for Efficient and Durable Solar Cells

Additive engineering via multiple-anchoring enhances 2D perovskite solar cells' performance

Passivation defects and reducing charge recombination are of great importance in enhancing 2D perovskite solar cells' (PSCs) performance. Herein, a novel additive (TEMPIC) is introduced into 2D PSCs to improve photovoltaic properties of the device, which are mainly attributed to passivated trap-states and reduced charge recombination in device.

Controlling the Orientation-Dependent Second Harmonic Generation in Hybrid Germanium Perovskites

Manipulating the crystal orientation plays a crucial role in the conversion efficiency during second harmonic generation (SHG). Here, we provide a new strategy in controlling the surface-dependent anisotropic SHG with the precise design of (101) and (21 ‾ ${\bar 1}$ 0) MAGeI3 facets. Based on the SHG measurement, the (101) MAGeI3 single crystal exhibits larger SHG (1.3×(21 ‾ ${\bar 1}$ 0) MAGeI3). Kelvin probe force microscopy imaging shows a smaller work function for the (101) MAGeI3 compared with the (21 ‾ ${\bar 1}$ 0), which indirectly demonstrates the stronger intrinsic polarization on the (101) surface. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirms the band bending within the (101) facet. Temperature-dependent steady-state and time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy show shorter lifetime and wider emission band in the (101) MAGeI3 single crystal, revealing the higher defect states. Additionally, powder X-ray diffraction patterns show the (101) MAGeI3 possesses larger in-plane polar units [GeI3]- density, which could directly enhance the spontaneous polarization in the (101) facet. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation further demonstrates the higher intrinsic polarization in the (101) facet compared with the (21 ‾ ${\bar 1}$ 0) facet, and the larger built-in electric field in the (101) facet facilitates surface vacancy defect accumulation. Our work provides a new angle in tuning and optimizing hybrid perovskite-based nonlinear optical materials.

Strain engineering improves the photovoltaic performance of carbon-based hole-transport-material free CsPbIBr2 perovskite solar cells

Alkylamines with different chain lengths including n-butylamine, n-hexylamine, and n-octylamine, are applied to regulate the CsPbIBr2 perovskite film quality by strain engineering. The status of residual strains is controllably modulated, resulting in improved efficiency and stability of carbon-based hole-transport-material free CsPbIBr2 perovskite solar cells.

Co-Self-Assembled Monolayers Modified NiOx for Stable Inverted Perovskite Solar Cells

[4-(3,6-dimethyl-9H-carbazol-9yl)butyl]phosphonic acid (Me-4PACz) self-assembled molecules (SAM) are an effective method to solve the problem of the buried interface of NiOx in inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, the Me-4PACz end group (carbazole core) cannot forcefully passivate defects at the bottom of the perovskite film. Here, a Co-SAM strategy is employed to modify the buried interface of PSCs. Me-4PACz is doped with phosphorylcholine chloride (PC) to form a Co-SAM to improve the monolayer coverage and reduce leakage current. The phosphate group and chloride ions (Cl-) in PC can inhibit NiOx surface defects. Meantime, the quaternary ammonium ions and Cl- in PC can fill organic cations and halogen vacancies in the perovskite film to enable defects passivation. Moreover, Co-SAM can promote the growth of perovskite crystals, collaboratively solve the problem of buried defects, suppress nonradiative recombination, accelerate carrier transmission, and relieve the residual stress of the perovskite film. Consequently, the Co-SAM modified devices show power conversion efficiencies as high as 25.09% as well as excellent device stability with 93% initial efficiency after 1000 h of operation under one-sun illumination. This work demonstrates the novel approach for enhancing the performance and stability of PSCs by modifying Co-SAM on NiOx.

Building a Charge Transfer Bridge between g-C3N4 and Perovskite with Molecular Engineering to Achieve Efficient Perovskite Solar Cells

Effective defect passivation and efficient charge transfer within polycrystalline perovskite grains and corresponding boundaries are necessary to achieve highly efficient perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, focusing on the boundary location of g-C3N4 during the crystallization modulation on perovskite, molecular engineering of 4-carboxyl-3-fluorophenylboronic acid (BF) on g-C3N4 was designed to obtain a novel additive named BFCN. With the help of the strong bonding ability of BF with both g-C3N4 and perovskite and favorable intramolecular charge transfer within BFCN, not only has the crystal quality of perovskite films been improved due to the effective defects passivation, but the charge transfer has also been greatly accelerated due to the formation of additional charge transfer channels on the grain boundaries. As a result, the champion BFCN-based PSCs achieve the highest photoelectric conversion efficiency (PCE) of 23.71% with good stability.
