Recent advances in the application of magnetic nanocatalysts in multicomponent reactions

Recently, the preparation and applications of magnetic nanostructures have attracted increasing attention in nanocatalysis studies, and magnetic nanoparticle (MNP) functionalized catalysts have been applied in important reactions such as Suzuki-Miyaura and Heck couplings. The modified nanocomposites demonstrate significant catalytic efficiency and excellent benefits in the context of catalyst recovery methods. This review discusses the recent modified magnetic nanocomposites in the field of catalytic applications along with the synthetic processes that are usually employed.

The Relevance and Insights on 1,4-Naphthoquinones as Antimicrobial and Antitumoral Molecules: A Systematic Review

Natural product derivatives are essential in searching for compounds with important chemical, biological, and medical applications. Naphthoquinones are secondary metabolites found in plants and are used in traditional medicine to treat diverse human diseases. Considering this, the synthesis of naphthoquinone derivatives has been explored to contain compounds with potential biological activity. It has been reported that the chemical modification of naphthoquinones improves their pharmacological properties by introducing amines, amino acids, furan, pyran, pyrazole, triazole, indole, among other chemical groups. In this systematic review, we summarized the preparation of nitrogen naphthoquinones derivatives and discussed their biological effect associated with redox properties and other mechanisms. Preclinical evaluation of antibacterial and/or antitumoral naphthoquinones derivatives is included because cancer is a worldwide health problem, and there is a lack of effective drugs against multidrug-resistant bacteria. The information presented herein indicates that naphthoquinone derivatives could be considered for further studies to provide drugs efficient in treating cancer and multidrug-resistant bacteria.

Design, synthesis, and catalytic performance of modified graphene oxide based on a cobalt complex as a heterogenous catalyst for the preparation of aminonaphthoquinone derivatives

We are reporting a functionalized graphene oxide catalyst developed by modifying graphene oxide surface using the covalent attachment of an amino-functionalized SiO₂ sphere/cobalt complex. Silica network has special characteristics including mechanical strength, high thermal and chemical stability with good dispersion in solvents. The silica/graphene oxide mixture provides improved properties and extends the scope of application. Graphene oxide was functionalized by spherical silica with the help of hybrid silane-containing nitrogen to coordinate with Co(ii) for increasing the catalytic activity. The catalyst was characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Raman spectroscopy, and Thermal Gravimetric (TGA) analyses. The catalyst showed high catalytic activity for multi-component reactions in the synthesis of aminonaphthoquinones in ethanol solvent. The catalyst's ability to improve the yield (96–98%), reduce the reaction time (5–8 min), and recycling ability are important benefits for the catalyst.

GO@f-SiO₂@Co is a heterogenous catalyst composed of spherical silica particles grafted on the surface of graphene oxide with ethylenediamine ligands and coordination with Co(ii). We assessed the activity of the catalyst for the synthesis of aminonaphthoquinones.

Dendronized magnetic nanoparticles for HIV-1 capture and rapid diagnostic

Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) remains a global public health problem. Detection and reduction of the rates of late diagnosis of HIV-1 infection are one of the main challenges in combating the HIV-1 epidemic. Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) have several characteristics that make them susceptible to capture HIV-1 of a wide range of biological samples reducing waiting times between the acquisition of HIV-1 infection and its detection by current techniques. Carbosilane dendrons decorated with peripheral carboxyl groups and alcoxysilane function at the focal point have been used to stabilize MNPs by co-precipitation method in one step. The characterization of these systems and of their carboxylate analogues was performed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), ζ potential and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The ability of carboxyl and carboxylate MNPs to capture R5-HIV-1 and X4-HIV-1 strains was evaluated to achieve a rapid and easy diagnostic method in order to reduce or eliminate the risk of HIV-1 transmission.
