Synthesis of four series of quinoline‐based heterocycles by reacting 2‐chloroquinoline‐3‐carbonitriles with various types of isocyanides

Cu(II)-Mediated Sulfonylation of (Hetero)arenes with TosMIC Using Monodentate Directing Groups

Monodentate chelation-assisted direct ortho-C-H sulfonylation of (hetero)arenes using TosMIC as the novel sulfonylating reagent has been developed. A broad range of substrates, including indolines, indoles, 2-phenylpyridines, and others were well tolerated to afford the corresponding products in moderate to good yields. Mechanistic studies revealed that the sulfonyl radical might be involved. Inspired by the above discovery, preliminary para-C-H sulfonylation of naphthalene substrate was also successfully realized. The current protocol featured with cheap metal catalysis, good functional group compatibility, and operational convenience.

Two distinct protocols for the synthesis of unsymmetrical 3,4-disubstituted maleimides based on transition-metal catalysts

Two tandem catalytic systems are described for the synthesis of novel 3,4-disubstituted maleimides using the same Ugi adducts as starting materials. 4-Aryl-3-pyrrolyl- and 4-aryl-3-indolyl-maleimides were successfully obtained via a Pd(OAc)2/PPh3 based protocol. In contrast, maleimide-fused pyrrolo and indolo[1,2-a]quinolines were obtained in a complementary methodology using CuI/L-proline. These strategies involved a combination of benzylic amine oxidation, trans-amidation, intramolecular Knoevenagel condensation, and N-arylation reactions. Computational investigations provide further insights into this reaction sequence.

Novel probe based on rhodamine B and quinoline as a naked-eye colorimetric probe for dual detection of nickel and hypochlorite ions

This work demonstrates the design and straightforward syntheses of several novel probe-based on rhodamine B and 2-mercaptoquinoline-3-carbaldehydes as a naked-eye colorimetric probe, indicating a sensitive and selective recognition towards nickel (II) with a limit of detection 0.30 μmol L-1 (0.02 mg L-1). Further, by employing the oxidation property of hypochlorite (OCl-), this novel probe parallelly has been deployed to detect hypochlorite in laboratory conditions with a limit of detection of 0.19 μmol mL-1 and in living cells. Regarded to negligible cell toxicity toward mammalian cells, this probe has the potential to determine these analytes in in-vivo investigation and foodstuff samples.

Synthesis of Substituted Phthalimides via Ultrasound-Promoted One-Pot Multicomponent Reaction

In this work, a novel strategy for the straightforward synthesis of substituted phthalimides is described, which includes base-mediated Michael addition/intramolecular cyclization/[1,5]-H shift/cleavage of CS₂/aromatization/nucleophilic acyl substitution reaction of 2-(4-oxo-2-thioxothiazolidin-5-ylidene)acetates and α,α-dicyanoolefines under ultrasound (US) irradiation. Some advantages of this method are as follows: having simple operation, easily accessible starting materials, chemoselective cascade process, synthetically useful yields, and green conditions by utilizing US irradiation as a source of energy and using ethanol as solvent.

Transition Metal and Inner Transition Metal Catalyzed Amide Derivatives Formation through Isocyanide Chemistry

The synthesis of amides is a substantial research area in organic chemistry because of their ubiquitous presence in natural products and bioactive molecules. The use of easily accessible isocyanides as amidoyl (carbamoyl) synthons in cross-coupling reactions using transition metal and inner transition metöal catalysts is a current trend in this area. Isocyanides, owing to their coordination ability as a ligand and inherent electronic properties for reactions with various partners, have expanded the potential application of these transformations for the preparation of novel synthetic molecules and pharmaceutical candidates. This review gives an overview of the achievements in isocyanide-based transition metal and inner transition metal catalyzed amide formation and discusses highlights of the proposed distinct mechanisms.
