Transition Metal-Catalyzed Transformations of Chalcones

Chalcones are a class of naturally occurring flavonoid compounds associated to a variety of biological and pharmacological properties. Several reviews have been published describing the synthesis and biological properties of a vast array of analogues. However, overviews on the reactivity of chalcones has only been explored in a few accounts. To fill this gap, a systematic survey on the most recent developments in the transition metal-catalyzed transformation of chalcones was performed. The chemistry of copper, palladium, zinc, iron, manganese, nickel, ruthenium, cobalt, rhodium, iridium, silver, indium, gold, titanium, platinum, among others, as versatile catalysts will be highlighted, covering the literature from year 2000 to 2023, in more than 380 publications.

Dual Brønsted acidic-basic function immobilized on the 3D mesoporous polycalix [4]resorcinarene: As a highly recyclable catalyst for the synthesis of spiro acenaphthylene/indene heterocycles

In this study, a novel dual Brønsted acidic-basic nano-scale porous organic polymer catalyst, PC4RA@SiPr-Pip-BuSO3H, was synthesized through various steps: preparation of a 3D network of polycalix, modification with (3-chloropropyl)-trimethoxysilane, then functionalization of polymer with piperazine and n-butyl sulfonic acid under the provided conditions. The catalyst characterization was performed by FT-IR, TGA, EDS, elemental mapping, PXRD, TEM, and FE-SEM analyses, confirming high chemical stability, activity, recoverability, and excellent covalent anchoring of functional groups. So, the designed catalyst was utilized for preparing spiro-acenaphthylene and amino-spiroindene heterocycles, providing good performance with a high yield of the corresponding products. Accordingly, this catalyst can be used in different organic transformations. Necessary experiments were conducted for the recyclability test of the polymeric catalyst, and the results showed the PC4RA@SiPr-Pip-BuSO3H catalyst can be reused 10 times without any decrease in its activity or quality with excellent stability. The structure of resultant spiro heterocycles was confirmed using 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and FT-IR.

Synthesis and evaluation of the antioxidant activity of new spiro-1,2,4-triazine derivatives applying Ag/Fe3O4/CdO@MWCNT MNCs as efficient organometallic nanocatalysts

We applied the Petasites hybridus rhizome water extract as green media so that Ag/Fe₃O₄/CdO@ multi-walled carbon nanotubes magnetic nanocomposites (Ag/Fe₃O₄/CdO@MWCNTs MNCs) could be prepared. We also evaluated its activity by using in the one-pot multicomponent reaction of acetophenones, diethyl oxalate, ammonium acetate, and activated carbonyl compounds such as ninhydrin, isatin and acenaphthylene-1,2-dione, and malononitrile and hydrazoyl chlorides in an aqueous medium at room temperature for the generation of spiro-1,2,4-triazines as new derivatives with tremendous output. Moreover, reducing organic pollutants from 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) was carried out by generating Ag/Fe₃O₄/CdO@MWCNTs in water at room temperature. The results displayed that Ag/Fe₃O₄/CdO@MWCNTs reduced pollutants of organic compounds in a short time. The synthesized spiro-1,2,4-triazines have NH and OH functional groups having acidic hydrogen with high antioxidant power. Also, the spiro-1,2,4-triazines exhibited antimicrobial ability. For this purpose, the disk diffusion method was applied and two kinds of bacteria, Gram-positive and Gram-negative, were employed for the analysis. Furthermore, we applied functional theory-based quantum chemical methods in order to better understand reaction mechanism density. To generate spiro-1,2,4-triazines, the applied process showed many properties such as reactions with short time, products with good yields, and simple extraction of catalyst from a mixture of reactions.

Recent advances and prospects in the organocatalytic synthesis of quinazolinones

Quinazolinone, a bicyclic compound, comprises a pyrimidine ring fused at 4´ and 8´ positions with a benzene ring and constitutes a substantial class of nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds on account of their frequent existence in the key fragments of many natural alkaloids and pharmaceutically active components. Consequently, tremendous efforts have been subjected to the elegant construction of these compounds and have recently received immense interest in synthetic and medicinal chemistry. The domain of synthetic organic chemistry has grown significantly over the past few decades for the construction of highly functionalized therapeutically potential complex molecular structures with the aid of small organic molecules by replacing transition-metal catalysis. The rapid access to this heterocycle by means of organocatalytic strategy has provided new alternatives from the viewpoint of synthetic and green chemistry. In this review article, we have demonstrated a clear presentation of the recent organocatalytic synthesis of quinazolinones of potential therapeutic interests and covered the literature from 2015 to date. In addition to these, a clear presentation and understanding of the mechanistic aspects, features, and limitations of the developed reaction methodologies have been highlighted.
