Abstract
Three copper dibenzoporphyrin(2.1.2.1) complexes having two dipyrromethene units connected through o-phenylen bridges and 4-MePh, Ph, or F5Ph substituents at the meso positions of the dipyrrins were synthesized and characterized according to their spectral, electrochemical, and structural properties. As indicated by the single-crystal X-ray structures, all three derivatives have highly bent molecular structures, with angles between each planar dipyrrin unit ranging from 89° to 85°, indicative of a nonaromatic molecule. The insertion of copper(II) into dibenzoporphyrins(2.1.2.1) induced a change in the macrocyclic cavity shape from rectangular in the case of the free-base precursors to approximately square for the metalated copper derivatives. Solution electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra at 100 K showed hyperfine coupling of the Cu(II) central metal ion and the N nucleus in the highly bent molecular structures. Electrochemical measurements in CH2Cl2 or N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) containing 0.1 M tetrabutylammonium perchlorate (TBAP) were consistent with ring-centered electron transfers and, in the case of reduction, were assigned to electron additions involving two equivalent π centers on the bent nonaromatic molecule. The potential separation between the two reversible one-electron reductions ranged from 230 to 400 mV in DMF, indicating a moderate-to-strong interaction between the equivalent redox-active dipyrrin units of the dibenzoporphyrins(2.1.2.1). The experimentally measured highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO)-lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) gaps ranged from 2.14 to 2.04 eV and were smaller than those seen for the planar copper tetraarylporphyrins(1.1.1.1), (Ar)4PCu.

Abstract
The self-assembly of seven zinc 10-(dialkoxyphosphoryl)-5,15-diarylporphyrinates Zn5-Zn11 containing different substituents at the phosphonate and aryl groups was investigated. Single crystals of Zn5-Zn9 complexes were grown under the same conditions and analyzed by X-ray structural analysis. A supramolecular self-assembly is observed in all crystals through weak coordinative bonding of the phosphoryl group of one porphyrin molecule to the zinc(ii) ion of a second molecule. The geometry of the porphyrin macrocycle is similar in all of the studied crystals and the central zinc atom in each case adopts a distorted tetragonal pyramidal environment. However, the Zn5-Zn7 porphyrins display a 1D polymeric structure while the Zn8 and Zn9 complexes exist as discrete cyclotetramers in the crystals. This data demonstrates that the non-coordinating meso-aryl substituents of meso-(dialkoxyphosphoryl)porphyrins influence their crystalline organization. A self-assembly of the Zn5-Zn11 complexes is also observed in toluene and chloroform solutions over a large temperature range (223-323 K). According to NMR studies, the associates exhibit dynamic behavior. A well-defined supramolecular aggregate of complex Zn10 at 10-3 M in toluene and chloroform solutions was unambiguously characterized as a cyclotetramer [Zn10]4 by 1H NMR spectroscopy at 223 K. The structure of the Zn10 association in toluene and chloroform shows a concentration dependence. When a solution of Zn10 in toluene was diluted from 10-3 M to 10-5 M, the average number of molecules in the associated unit decreased to about two.

Abstract
This review focuses on the postfunctionalization of porphyrins and related compounds through catalytic and stoichiometric organometallic methodologies. The employment of organometallic reactions has become common in porphyrin synthesis. Palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions are now standard techniques for constructing carbon-carbon bonds in porphyrin synthesis. In addition, iridium- or palladium-catalyzed direct C-H functionalization of porphyrins is emerging as an efficient way to install various substituents onto porphyrins. Furthermore, the copper-mediated Huisgen cycloaddition reaction has become a frequent strategy to incorporate porphyrin units into functional molecules. The use of these organometallic techniques, along with the traditional porphyrin synthesis, now allows chemists to construct a wide range of highly elaborated and complex porphyrin architectures.
