Abstract
(1R,5S)-2-Methyl-6,7-benzomorphan has been synthesised from (R)-(benzyloxy)(phenyl)acetaldehyde. On a 2-mmol scale Bi (OTf)3 promoted Aza-Prins reaction with N-tosylhomoallylamine afforded an 88/12 mixture of 6-oxa-2-azabicyclo[3.2.1]octanes. Major diastereoisomer was converted to enantiomerically pure (2S,4S)-2-benzyl-1- methylpiperidin-4-ol via a high-yielding sequence hydrogenolysis/N-detosylation/N-methylation. Acid-catalysed intramolecular Friedel-Crafts cyclisation of the piperidinol afforded (1R,5S)-2-methyl-6,7-benzomorphan in five steps with a yield of 25%.

Abstract
In order to prepare eptazocine hydrobromide effectively, a novel, mild and practical asymmetric process was developed starting from 1-methyl-7-methoxy-2-tetralone under the catalysis of N-(p-trifluoromethylbenzyl)cinchonidinium bromide. The reaction conditions were optimized to obtain the product in excellent overall yield and purity.

Abstract
AbstractAlkaloids are a large family of natural products that mostly contain basic nitrogen atoms. Because of their intriguing structures and important functions, they have long been popular targets for synthetic organic chemists. China's chemists have made significant progress in the area of alkaloid synthesis over past decades. In this article, selected total syntheses of alkaloids from research groups in mainland China during the period 2011–16 are highlighted.
