Abstract
A general and efficient method for the direct synthesis of benzothiazoles and benzoxazoles from carboxylic acids with 2-aminobenzenethiols or 2-aminophenols using (o-CF3PhO)3P as a simple coupling reagent has been developed. Diverse benzothiazoles and benzoxazoles were synthesized in moderate to excellent yields. And the gram-scale preparation of benzothiazole and benzoxazole also proceeded smoothly under the mild conditions. Moreover, a plausible reaction mechanism was discussed, with (o-CF3PhO)3P and its hydrolysis product (o-CF3PhO)2P(O)H contributing to the formation of the target products as an amide synthesis coupling agent and a cyclization reaction promoter, respectively.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hydroxylamine (HA) is vital industrial raw material and pharmaceutical intermediate. In addition, HA is an important cellular metabolite, which is intermediate in the formation of nitric oxide and nitroxide. However, excessive amounts of HA are toxic to both animals and plants. Conventional methods for the detection of HA are cumbersome and complicated. The detection of HA with fluorescent probes is convenient and sensitive. There are few probes available for the detection of hydroxylamine. Therefore, a fluorescent probe for the sensitive and selective detection of HA was developed in this work. RESULTS A coumarin derivative SWJT-22 was synthesized as a colorimetric fluorescent probe to detect hydroxylamine (HA), with high sensitivity and selectivity. The detection limit of the probe to HA was 0.15 μM, which was lower than most probes of HA. Upon the addition of HA to aqueous solution containing SWJT-22, the color of the solution changed from orange to yellow, and the fluorescence color also changed from orange to green. The reaction mechanism of SWJT-22 to HA was confirmed by 1H NMR titrations, mass spectrometry and round bottom flask experiments. Moreover, SWJT-22 had been fabricated into portable test strips for the detection of HA. SWJT-22 had been successfully used in cellular imaging and could detect both endogenous and exogenous HA in HeLa cells and RAW 264.7 cells. SIGNIFICANCE Due to the physiological role of hydroxylamine in organisms, it is crucial to detect hydroxylamine selectively and sensitively. This work provided a convenient tool for the detection of hydroxylamine, not only to detect endogenous and exogenous HA in cells, but also made into portable test strips. The HA fluorescent probe SWJT-22 is expected to promote the study of HA in physiological processes.

Abstract
As a high reactive oxygen species (ROS) and a reactive nitrogen species (RNS), peroxynitrite anion (ONOO- ) is widely present in organisms and plays influential roles in physiological and pathological processes. It is of great significance to develop effective fluorescent probes for imaging peroxynitrite variation in living systems. Herein we present a novel fluorescent probe TQC0 for monitoring ONOO- based on the iminocoumarin platform, and this probe was synthesized by the knoevenagel condensation between a dihydropyridine-salicylaldehyde derivative and 2-benzothiazole-acetonitrile, and subsequently masked with the boronate moiety. The obtained probe TQC0 exhibited a high signal-to-noise ratio (206-fold) and a quick 'turn-on' response (about 10 min) with great selectivity and sensitivity. Furthermore, the probe TQC0 was successfully applied for imaging ONOO- in living cells with low cytotoxicity.

Abstract
We herein establish a multicomponent annulation method for the synthesis of valuable iminocoumarins using aryl thiocarbamates, internal alkynes, and sulfonamides as starting materials, which are safe and readily available. The key step is a Rh-catalyzed and sulfur-directed C-H bond activation. Preliminary mechanistic investigations suggested that the nucleophilic attack of the sulfonamide on an active iminium cation finally completes the imine segment.

Abstract
Thiophenols as high toxic environmental pollutants are poisonous for animals and aquatic organisms. Therefore, it is indispensable to monitor thiophenols in the environment. Herein, a novel near-infrared fluorescent probe was developed for the detection of thiophenols, which was easily prepared by one-step coupling of 2,4-dinitrobenzenesulfonyl chloride with Nile blue. The probe showed a significant near infrared (∼675 nm) fluorescence "turn-on" response to thiophenols with some good features including chromogenic reaction, high sensitivity and selectivity, fast response, near-infrared emission along with low detection limit (1.8 nM). The probe was employed to rapidly and visually determine thiophenols in several industrial wastewaters with good recoveries (90-110%). Moreover, this probe has been demonstrated good capability for imaging thiophenol in HeLa cells.

Abstract
Coumarins are a very large family of compounds containing the unique 2H-chromen-2-one motif, as it is known according to IUPAC nomenclature. Coumarin derivatives are widely found in nature, especially in plants and are constituents of several essential oils. Up to now, thousands of coumarin derivatives have been isolated from nature or produced by chemists. More recently, the coumarin platform has been widely adopted in the design of small-molecule fluorescent chemosensors because of its excellent biocompatibility, strong and stable fluorescence emission, and good structural flexibility. This scaffold has found wide applications in the development of fluorescent chemosensors in the fields of molecular recognition, molecular imaging, bioorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, materials chemistry, as well as in the biology and medical science communities. This review focuses on the important progress of coumarin-based small-molecule fluorescent chemosensors during the period of 2012-2018. This comprehensive and critical review may facilitate the development of more powerful fluorescent chemosensors for broad and exciting applications in the future.

Abstract
Selective detection of biothiols holds prime importance owing to the role of varied concentrations of biothiols in various diseases, thus demanding extensive research for developing materials toward selective sensing. In this study, we targeted postsynthetic modification (PSM) approach for imparting desired functionality to chemically stable UiO-66-NH2 metal-organic framework, which exhibits highly selective sensing toward biothiols. The appended dinitrobenzenesulfonyl group reacts with biothiols via chemidosimetric approach. As a consequence, the probe exhibits a turn on response, which holds immense importance for facile biological studies.

Abstract
Two highly sensitive probes bearing a nucleophilic imine moiety have been utilized for the selective detection of chemical warfare agent (CWA) mimics. Diethyl chlorophosphate (DCP) was used as mimic CWAs. Both iminocoumarin-benzothiazole-based probes not only demonstrated a remarkable fluorescence ON-OFF response and good recognition, but also exhibited fast response times (10s) along with color changes upon addition of DCP. Limits of detection for the two sensors 1 and 2 were calculated as 0.065μM and 0.21μM, respectively, which are much lower than most other reported probes. These two probes not only show high sensitivity and selectivity in solution, but can also be applied for the recognition of DCP in the gas state, with significant color changes easily observed by the naked eye.

Abstract
Thiophenols are a class of highly toxic environmental pollutant, hence it is very necessary to monitor thiophenols in environment and living cells with an efficient and reliable method. Herein, a novel fluorescent probe for thiophenols has been developed, which exhibited a colorimetric and fluorescence turn-on dual response towards thiophenols with good selectivity and fast response. The sensing mechanism for thiophenols was attributed to nucleophilic substitution reaction, which was confirmed by HPLC. The probe exhibited good recovery (from 90% to 107%) and low limit of detection for thiophenols (37nM) in industrial wastewater. Moreover, the probe has been successfully employed to visualize thiophenol in living cells. Therefore, the fluorescent probe has good capability for monitoring thiophenols in environmental samples and biological systems.

Abstract
A dual mode fluorescent probe, which is based on an integration of fluorescein and coumarin fluorophores, was developed for the discrimination of Cys from Hcy and GSH. This probe (2) shows the advantage of quick reaction (5 min) with Cys, resulting in a strong fluorescence turn-on response when excited at 450 nm. Notably, it also demonstrates the ratiometric fluorescence property while excited by a shorter wavelength (332 nm). All of results suggest probe 2 has a high selectivity toward Cys even in the presence of other amino acids, cations and anions. The detection limit of Cys was calculated as 0.084 μM, which was much lower than the intracellular concentration. 1H NMR, MS and DFT calculation were used to reveal the detection mechanism further. Finally, this low cytotoxic probe was successfully applied in bioimaging within HepG2 cells.

Abstract
A novel colorimetric and fluorescent iminocoumarin-based turn-off chemosensor for acetate ion was designed and synthesized. The chemosensor could fast detect acetate ion in a 1:1 ratio within 150 ms, which could not be affected by various coexisting anions, even F(-). Futher studies showed that the detect limit was as low as 2.05×10(-7) M, and the binding constant was determined to be 1.02×10(8) M(-1). Due to these unique properties, the chemosensor showed potential application in intracellular imaging.

Abstract
A new Tb(III) complex based on a tripodal carboxylate ligand has been synthesized for the selective fluorescent recognition of phosphate anions, including inorganic phosphates and nucleoside phosphates (e.g., ATP), in Tris buffer solution. The resulting L · Tb complex shows the characteristic emission bands centered at about 495 and 550 nm from the Tb(III)-centered (5)D4 excited state to (7)FJ transitions with J = 6 and 5, where the chelating ligand acts only as an "antenna". Upon the addition of phosphate anions to the aqueous solution of Tb(III) complex, significant "on-off" fluorescence changes were observed, which were attributed to the inhibition of the "antenna" effect between the ligand and Tb(III) after the incorporation of phosphate anions. Furthermore, this unique Tb(III) complex has been successfully utilized to detect phosphate anions with filter papers and hydrogels. Notably, the Tb(III) complex also can be used for the construction of molecular logic gates with TRANSFER and INHIBIT logic functions by using the above fluorescence changes.
