Abstract
Now that the chemistry of 1 : 1 host:guest complexes is well-established, it is surprising to note that higher stoichiometry (oligomeric) complexes, especially those with excess host, remain largely unexplored. Yet, proteins tend to oligomerize, affording new functions for cell machinery. Here, we show that cucurbit[n]uril (CB[n]) macrocycles combined with symmetric, linear di-viologens form unusual 3 : 2 host:guest complexes exhibiting remarkable dynamic properties, host self-sorting, and external ring-translocation. These results highlight the structural tunability of cucurbit[8]uril (CB[8]) based 3 : 2 host:guest complexes in water and their responsiveness toward several stimuli (chemicals, pH, redox).

Abstract
The differing cavity size of the Q[n] determines the binding interactions between the benzyl substituted 4-pyrrolidinopyridinium salt and each Q[n]. Single crystal X-ray diffraction of the guest as well as two host–guest complexes is reported.

Abstract
The binding interactions between six biogenic amine guests and the iQ[7] host were investigated. The experimental results have revealed that iQ[7] shows strong binding affinity towards five of the studied biogenic amines, but not histamine, and that the binding sites are different depending on the structure of the biogenic amine.

Abstract
Cucurbit[n]uril chemistry has become an important part of contemporary supramolecular chemistry since cucurbit[n]urils (Q[n]s) are not only able to encapsulate various guests, but are also capable of coordinating to a wide range of metal ions, leading to the establishment of Q[n]-based host-guest chemistry and coordination chemistry. Each of these impressive developments can be attributed to the growth of protocols for obtaining Q[n]s. In this review, we survey synthetic procedures for obtaining cucurbit[n]urils and their substituted derivatives together with the separation and purification of these remarkable compounds. The coverage is aimed at both existing workers in the field as well as at those requiring an "entry" into Q[n]-based research.

Abstract
Interactions between inverted cucurbit[7]uril (iQ[7]) and essential amino acids have been studied at pH = 7.0 by 1H NMR spectroscopy, electronic absorption spectroscopy, isothermal titration calorimetry, and mass spectrometry. The interactions can be divided into three binding types at pH = 7.0. Experimental results from the present study showed that the host displays a strong binding to the aromatic amino acids, Trp and Phe, and the guests of Lys, Arg, and His lie outside the cavity portal of the host. Meanwhile, the alkyl moieties of the guests Met, Leu, and Ile were accommodated within the cavity of iQ[7], but there was no significant interaction between iQ[7] and Thr or Val. The complexation behavior of iQ[7] with essential amino acids was explored at pH = 3, and the binding of Lys, Arg, and His revealed an unexpected behavior, with their side chains located in the cavity of iQ[7], whereas those of the aromatic Trp and Phe were deeper within the iQ[7] cavity. The alkyl side chains of the guests Met, Leu, Ile, Thr, and Val were also located inside the iQ[7] cavity and formed the host-guest complexes.

Abstract
Host–guest interactions in an aqueous solution of an inverted cucurbit[7]uril (iQ[7]) with α,ω-alkyldiammonium guests (H3N(CH2)xNH3Cl2, x = 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 named 1–6) were investigated by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC).
