Hybrid Coordination Networks Constructed from ɛ-Keggin-Type Polyoxometalates and Rigid Imidazole-Based Bridging Ligands as New Carriers for Noble-Metal Catalysts

Self-assembled molecular hybrids comprising lacunary polyoxometalates and multidentate imidazole ligands

Self-assembly via coordination bonding facilitates the creation of diverse inorganic-organic molecular hybrids with distinct structures and properties. Recent advances in this field have been driven by the versatility of organic ligands and inorganic units. Lacunary polyoxometalates are a class of well-defined metal-oxide clusters with a customizable number of reactive sites and bond directions, which make them promising inorganic units for self-assembled molecular hybrids. Herein, we report a novel synthesis method for self-assembled molecular hybrids utilizing the reversible coordination of multidentate imidazole ligands to the vacant sites of lacunary polyoxometalates. We synthesized self-assembled molecular hybrids including monomer, dimers, and tetramer, demonstrating the potential of our method for constructing intricate hybrids with tailored properties and functionalities.

Recent Advances in Hybrid Materials of Metal Nanoparticles and Polyoxometalates

Polyoxometalates (POMs), anionic metal-oxygen nanoclusters that possess various composition-dependent properties, are widely used to modify the existing properties of metal nanoparticles and to endow them with new ones. Herein, we present an overview of recent advances in hybrid materials that consist of metal nanoparticles and POMs. Following a brief introduction on the inception of this area and its development, representative properties and applications of these materials in various fields such as electrochemistry, photochemistry, and catalysis are introduced. We discuss how the combination of two classic inorganic materials facilitates cooperative and synergistic behavior, and we also give personal perspectives on the future development of this field.

Role of Lewis Acid Metal Centers in Metal–Organic Frameworks for Ultrafast Reduction of 4-Nitrophenol

Metal–Organic Frameworks (MOFs) can be a good alternative to conventional catalysts because they are non-toxic and can be selective without compromising efficiency. Nano MOFs such as UiO-66 have proven themselves to be competitive in the catalytic family. In this study, we report the excellent catalytic behavior of UiO-66 MOF in the reduction of a model reaction: 4-Nitrophenol (4-NP) to 4-Aminophenol (4-AP) over MOF-5 (Zn-BDC) and MIL-101 (Fe-BDC). Nano UiO-66 crystals were synthesized by a hydrothermal process and characterized by Powder X-ray Diffraction, Diffused Reflectance UV-Vis spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, and Transmission Electron Microscopy. The catalysts’ performance during the hydrogenation reduction reaction from 4-NP to 4-AP was investigated in the presence of a reducer, NaBH4. The UiO-66 nano crystals exhibited excellent catalytic behavior owing to its large surface area and Lewis acidic nature at the metal nodes. Furthermore, UiO-66 showed excellent recyclability behavior, verified during repeated consecutive use in a sequence. The catalyst yielded similar catalytic behavior during the reduction of nitrophenols at each cycle, which is a novel finding.

Ru(III) -based polyoxometalate tetramers as highly efficient heterogeneous catalysts for alcohol oxidation reactions at room temperature

A novel ruthenium-containing polyoxometalate-based organic-inorganic hybrid, K₄Na₉H_7.4[(AsW₉O₃₃)₄(WO₂)₄{Ru_3.2(C₃H₃N₂)₂}]·42H₂O (1), was successfully synthesized by a one-step hydrothermal method under acidic conditions, which applied a self-assembly strategy between inorganic polyoxometalate based on trivacant [B-α-AsW₉O₃₃]^9- {AsW₉} fragments and an organic ligand, imidazole (C₃H₄N₂). Compound 1 was further characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, PXRD, IR spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, ESI-MS, elemental analysis and TGA. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction data reveal that the polyanion consists of four trivacant Keggin-type polyanion {AsW₉} building blocks bridged by four {WO₆} units, leading to a crown-shaped tetrameric structure [(AsW₉O₃₃)₄(WO₂)₄{Ru_3.2(C₃H₃N₂)₂}]^20.4-. The ESI-MS result reveals that the polyanion unit has excellent structural integrity in water. Moreover, the catalysis study of 1 was also further investigated, and the experimental results indicate heterogeneous catalyst 1 presents high efficiency (yield = 98%), excellent selectivity (>99%), and good recyclability for the oxidation of 1-(4-chlorophenyl)ethanol to 4'-chloroacetophenone with commercially available 70% aqueous tert-butyl hydroperoxide {TBHP (aq.)} as the oxidant at room temperature.

Hexameric to Trimeric Lanthanide-Included Selenotungstates and Their 2D Honeycomb Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Films Used for Detecting Ochratoxin A

Two types of organic-inorganic hybrid structure-related lanthanide (Ln)-included selenotungstates (Ln-SeTs) [H₂N(CH₃)₂]₁₁Na₇[Ce₄(H₂PTCA)₂(H₂O)₁₂(HICA)]₂[SeW₄O₁₇]₂[W₂O₅]₄[SeW₉O₃₃]₄·64H₂O (1, H₃PTCA = 1,2,3-propanetricarboxylic acid, H₂ICA = itaconic acid) and [H₂N(CH₃)₂]₆Na₄[Ln₄SeW₈(H₂O)₁₄(H₂PTCA)₂O₂₈] [SeW₉O₃₃]₂·31H₂O [Ln = Pr³⁺ (2), Nd³⁺ (3)] were obtained by Ln nature control. The primary frameworks of 1-3 are composed of trivacant Keggin-type [B-α-SeW₉O₃₃]^8- and [SeW₄O_m]^n- [Ln = Ce³⁺ (1), m = 17, n = 6; Ln = Pr³⁺ (2), Nd³⁺ (3), m = 18, n = 8] fragments bridged by organic ligands and Ln clusters. Intriguingly, Ln nature results in the degradation of hexameric 1 to trimeric 2-3. Besides, 1@DMDSA and 3@DMDSA composites (DMDSA·Cl = dimethyl distearylammonium chloride) were prepared through the cation exchange method, which were then reorganized to form two-dimensional (2D) honeycomb thin films by the breath figure method. Using these honeycomb thin films as electrode materials, the aptasensors were further established by utilizing methylene blue as an indicator and cDNA and Au nanoparticles as signal amplifiers to enhance the response signal so as to realize the purpose of ochratoxin A (OTA) detection. This work provides a new platform for detecting OTA and explores the application potential of POM-based composites in biological and clinical analyses.

Three novel polyoxometalate-based inorganic-organic hybrid materials based on 2,6-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)pyridine

Three novel inorganic-organic hybrid materials [Co(btp)2(W5O16)(H2O)] n (1), [Cd3(btp)6(PW12O40)2(H2O)6·6H2O] n (2), and [Ag3(btp)2(PMo12O40)·1.5H2O] n (3) (btp = 2,6-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)pyridine) have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by IR spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), elemental analysis and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The most striking structure feature of compound 1 is a 3D polycatenation framework, interpenetrated by a 2D 4-connected sql topology layer and a 3D 6-connected rob topology framework. Compound 2 exhibits a rare meso-helices 3D network with different chiralities crossing coexistence. Compound 3 also holds a 3D framework formed by linking terminal oxygen atoms of [α-PMo12O40]3- anions and silver ions in a 2D metal-organic layer. Compound 1 displays antiferromagnetic behavior. The luminescence, electrochemical and photocatalytic properties of compounds 1-3 have also been investigated. Compound 3 exhibits significant electrochemical activity for the reduction of H2O2 while compounds 1 and 2 show efficient photocatalytic activities for the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB). Furthermore, the three compounds display luminescence behaviors in the solid state.

Polyoxometalate-Based Metal-Organic Frameworks for Selective Oxidation of Aryl Alkenes to Aldehydes

Polyoxometalates (POMs) show considerable catalytic performance toward the selective oxidation of alkenes to aldehydes, which is commercially valuable for the production of pharmaceuticals, dyes, perfumes, and fine chemicals. However, the low specific surface area of POMs as heterogeneous catalysts and poor recyclability as homogeneous catalysts have hindered their wide application. Dispersing POMs into metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for the construction of POM-based MOFs (POMOFs) suggests a promising strategy to realize the homogeneity of heterogeneous catalysis. Herein, we report two new POMOFs with chemical formulas of [Co(BBTZ)₂][H₃BW₁₂O₄₀]·10H₂O (1) and [Co₃(H₂O)₆(BBTZ)₄][BW₁₂O₄₀]·NO₃·4H₂O (2) (BBTZ = 1,4-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene) for the selective oxidation of alkenes to aldehydes. Compound 1 possesses a non-interpenetrated three-dimensional (3D) cds-type open framework with a 3D channel system. Compound 2 displays a 3D polyrotaxane framework with one-dimensional channels along the [100] direction. In the selective oxidation of styrene into benzaldehyde, compound 1 can achieve a 100% conversion in 4 h with 96% selectivity toward benzaldehyde, which is superior to that of compound 2. A series of control experiments reveal that the co-role of [BW₁₂O₄₀]^5- and Co²⁺ active center as well as a more open framework feature co-promote the catalytic property of the POMOFs in this case. This work may suggest a new option for the development of POMOF catalysts in the selective oxidation of alkenes.

A series of Keggin-based compounds constructed by conjugate ring-rich pyrazine and quinoxaline derivatives
